If he stays on the court longer than last year. Why not! He has court vision. That would be awesome to lead the conference in apg.

Neither Kemba or Shabazz averaged 6 assists per game either. If he averaged 3 per game while reducing his TOs I think we'd all be happy.

My opinion, different type of player AJ is not a scorer 1st type like Kemba and Shabazz. He is pretty well balanced player with the exception of a jumper.

Lets forget about AJ and shot-making for a minute--He has a great floor game and vision.. IMO--He has the potential to be an excellent lock down defender.

I would like to see DH put him on the opposing team's top scorer(SG/SF) .. He has the ability to be a tremendous two-way player..

We have plenty of scoring talent on our team next year where he doesn't have to score 15pts/game.

Having said all of the above.. He's going to surprise the BY. A monster year

Will be the recipient of a lot of lobs and fast break baskets, and a nightmare matchup defensively.

I feel like it's somewhere between solid or exploding onto the scene. My expectation is at least 10 points from looking at Stanley Robinson's sophomore year as another guy who was pretty much an athlete working on his scoring skills. If we want to really compete the my hope would be him exploding on the scene averaging 15. I mean he has all the tools to be so successful if he can just figure it out on the offensive end.
If he is averaging 15+ppg come march this is a F4 team and likely a top 3 seed.

If Jackson averages less than 10 / 5 / 5, he'd probably consider it a disappointment.
Frankly,. I'm impressed how conservative the BY is regarding his soph stats.

Of course with a player like AJ, his contribution to the game is far greater than the sum of his individual parts.

At the end of the day, his passing, rebounding, and defense will be there; but can he be proficient (or almost) shooting the ball??

For context here are the top 10 single season apg leaders in UConn history.

1.Marcus Williams, 2004-05 7.8
2.Taliek Brown, 2003-04 6.5
3.Earl Kelley, 1985-86 6.4
4.Kevin Ollie, 1994-95 6.4
5.Karl Hobbs, 1983-84 6.4
6.Kevin Ollie, 1993-94 6.1
7.Jalen Adams, 2016-17 6.1
8.Doron Sheffer, 1995-96 6.1
9.Tate George, 1986-87 6.0
10.Shabazz Napier, 2011-12 5.8

Are Williams’ 2005-06 stats wiped out due to the suspension? I thought he averaged an insane 8.6 apg that season. Also, does Sheffer own the top single-season, all-time asst/turnover ratio… he only averaged 0.5 turnovers in 95-96. Pretty amazing. Not related, but I always felt that Doron’s 3-pt stroke was under appreciated. 40% shooter beyond the arc in his three years in Storrs.

I find it mind-boggling that a wing would not have a pull-up to their respective offensive arsenal. I think of how much of a standard it was for guards and wings in the 80s & 90s. I know olehead.

You look at the influence of the analytics of the three plus Steph that has changed the game so dramatically making my assumption that he possess a pull-up a vain one. Still, imo, I think if he were to gain decent mid-range touch with his leaping ability he would place even more pressure on the D considering the addition of this tool with his downhill and passing ability.

Not sure - it's possible the was a games played requirement as he would have only player in maybe 2/3rds the games.

I tend to think Marcus Williams gets pretty underrated in terms of UConn greats because of a) laptops b) The 06 team in general and c) underwhelming pro career. He was a fantastic college PG though.

He didn’t need it in high school and was injured over the summer last year. I’d be surprised if he isn’t working on it now.

well ... there was the injury

With both Bouknight and Jackson, we probably should understand their eagerness to get on the court. The training staff clearly wanted them to be totally healthy; but the process back -as we say with Akok - is never a throughline to optimal production. Jackson? We know his capability. Sure ... he needs a shot; and sometimes that never comes. But I don't believe that with this guy. He works.

Love the optimism but this is pure insanity. Jackson won't come close to leading the conference in apg, and he likely won't even lead his own team there. Jackson's future in the NBA may be as some hybrid point forward type, but since he can't shoot right now and we have two returning pg's and Sool coming in I struggle to see us handing the keys to the offense over to him enough for him to get his assists up anywhere near this.

Jackson and Akok are the wildcards. If Jackson can shoot and Akok is fully healthy this team goes places.

7pts / 6reb / 3ast. Will also make massive contributions on the defensive end.
Really like the defensive end part, no doubt. I think he is more on par point wise to reach double digits, rebs is good but I think 5/6 ast. could be reachable for him. Time on the court dictates that though.

I'm amazed Jalen Adams was on that list. Who the hell was he passing to?

I predict his sophomore year will be reminiscent of Andre Drummonds freshmen year, sometimes AJAX will look brilliant, ready to play in the NBA tomorrow, then other games he’ll be a non-factor, fouling too much or turning the ball over, probably slight improvements on A/TO and fouls per, but I’m not expecting his primary presence and value to show up in the box score. I will say whatever year he first averages over 10ppg he’s going.

We've seen this movie before. Expecting his shooting to be drastically improved over the summer is not realistic. And in the past with other players, those big improvement expectations rarely played out. That said he can do a lot of other things.

Fully agree with your assessment, including why his reputation lags. As to his APG not ranking as #1, I add the following:
1) His 23 games were slightly more than ⅔ of the team's total games played, but Sports-Reference.com shows that ¾ of games is the required minimum;
2) the 11 games that he missed in 2005 were against overall lesser competition because they included all of the cupcakes, even though Arkansas, Arizona, and Gonzaga were defeated in Maui; and
3) his 33+ minutes per game led the team.

Kid is going to be a problem. There's no reason why he won't be able to beat his man off the dribble and get to the basket this year. He'll be a nice point-forward
