America’s team?

Zags will be a number 1 seed, maybe even the highest number one seed. Every bracket expert will pick them to reach the Final Four. Seth Davis will pick them to win the National Championship for the 20th consecutive year

50/50 chance they survive the first weekend, it's tradition (along with another 8 teams from the Big 10)

Gonzaga has made it out of the first weekend in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 - Elite Eight in 2015, 2017, 2021 and 2022. Played for the title in 2017 and 2021.

But they have almost no shot at a one seed this year.

Lmaoooo yeah, the insignificant private school in Spokane has a fan base that spans the country just like the Cowboys and Yankees

When we get more national coverage and top ten clips. We certainly have a variety of characters to root for, and an animated coach......it's all there.
Coach Hurley and his wife were right behind the UConn bench last night rooting on Geno and his girls. Not something I ever saw Ollie or JC do during the regular season, if at all.

The only thing that kept them out of the 2020 sweet 16 was COVID. They don't have a title, but they are performing exceptionally well in the NCAAs.

Who wants to be americas team when you can be americas nightmare that’s way more fun. I don’t wanna be loved by the media I want us to prove the media wrong and make them cry.

Gonzaga is basketball’s version of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in baseball. They always play well but they cannot win the big one.

You’ve been nothing but a Gonzaga cheerleader since this thread opened. Join the hate train with the rest of us.

I like living in reality, where seven straight sweet sixteens, two title appearances, and four elite eights in the last seven years is lauded. Because that's a damn good run of tournament success. Winning a title is hard. We forget that because our program has been incredibly fortunate.

I get it. They have been a force. It's just fun to poke fun at them though. 18 losses in the last 6 years combined and no hardware to show for it.

Did Geno sit behind UConn’s bench for JC or Ollie ?

It's a fantastic run, and if they won one title, I'd say it would be the second best run in the period aside from Villanova. But without a title, it's just the best non-title run, and they can get behind:

Villanova
Kansas
UNC
Virginia
Duke
Baylor

But, you know, there are 350 teams or so who would rather have Gonzaga's tournament runs over the past seven years than their own.

He was older than Geno by a lot working lots of hours trying to win game, watch recruits games and get ready possibly to travel for an away game. Plus he had kids and grandkids why would we expect him to be at the women’s games? How many times you see Geno behind JCs bench?

I applaud them, and enjoy watching them, but “America’s team”? I never thought Dallas earned that moniker, let alone Gonzaga.

I mean, I've never once commented on that moniker in this thread. . .

Oh sure, being 12 years older than Geno, no way could Calhoun make a women’s game to root the team on and sit behind the bench next to 85 year old John Toner. Maybe Hurley’s wife watches the recruits games for him and gets him ready for away games. I don’t know who was more jealous of who, but I do know they never exchanged Christmas cards.

It’s literally the thread title.
You know there are subconversations in these things, right? Like, I could respond to someone in this conversation and not be talking about the title. It's Message Board 101: not every post directly addresses the tile.

And I thought you liked reality.

It’s wild they haven’t won a national championship yet. I know it takes some luck, even for the most talented teams but at this point you would think they would’ve gotten one

Twice as a 1 seed failed to make it to the second weekend in the last ten years

Comparing seeding to performance, underperformed more often than exceeded seeding expectations

24 tournament appearances since 1995
13 times didn't make the second weekend (again, twice as a 1 seed)
5-6 in the S16
2-3 E8
2-0 FF
0-2 NC (robbed once)

I think Cuse has a better tournament record than Gonzaga, and Cuse is not awarded a 1 seed every year

One seeds are supposed to advance, they have the easiest path to do so. Especially when playing close to home

But hey, I don't watch NCAAB, butt a Seth Davis does (LOL)

PS: They've been a 1 seed as often as we have, nothing to see here.

Fortunate? I think we just had a coach who knew better than most how to win the big one. Was UConn fortunate in 1994?

And the program wasn't fortunate that they picked Calhoun out of all the other coaches they could have hired? Or fortunate that another big time university didn't pick him up before he won. Or that he didn't take the South Carolina job?

TBF, I don't recall off the top of my head when both teams spent a week in the same place back then.

Nice post, to try and weasel out of a stupid comment.

Yeah, I get that or other times when the girls played at Gampel and the men played at the Civic Center. Still though ………
