I really hate this for Duke....I thought they would be rather good with Greenwell coming back from injury!

Really? They lost Gray, Jackson, Liston, and Peters. They would've depended on Williams, a rehabbing Jones, Chidom, and a few frosh.

I thought they were in for a major decline even before Jones left.

That's a big loss for Duke and a big gain for someone else. She's a Lieberman contender.

Haha - that question occurred to me as I started to type in a name and then couldn't decide which one to type in. Take your choice - the answer is the same - they wouldn't and I don't.
its not a point of feeling bad... you just want to balance the playing field sometimes. some people get sick of "UConn... and everybody else".

New article claiming it has a source close to Jones---always leery of those---says she's looking at Baylor, Texas, LSU, and South Carolina.

I understand it's more likely she heads back to Texas, but I'd love to see her at SC... Or Texas. I like Baylor, and feel badly for ETT, but (and hopefully I'm wrong), I see Baylor heading towards a big decline. I'm not sure if it's what came out in the Mulkey-Griner thing, but Since landing Simms in 2010, Baylor has not landed a single top 15 kid. 2011 - no top 100 kid. 2012, Prince #16. 2013 - Small #19. 2014, Cohen #41. I get they have Agbuke and Davis, and if they get Prince back probably should still be top 10, but with the resurgence of Texas, it seems recruiting in their own back yard just got a lot harder... and their recruiting seems to be sliding...

I feel awful for the Duke fans, and specifically our Duke friends who visit our board and whose posts I generally really enjoy. It seems like knowledgeable Duke fans have no use for McCallie... Really sad situation for the current players and their fans...

Well, if she wants to be close to home, I hope she's keeps in mind that the drive from Irving to Waco is only 90 minutes.

Let's face it, Baylor has not been a powerhouse in recruiting. Sims followed Griner to Baylor, otherwise Kim probably would not have gotten her. A backcourt of Small, Prince, Jones and Wright would be pretty darn talented and would be top 10. But unless Kim can reel in McCowan in 2015 BU probably won't do any better than top 10.

SMU is right up the street from Irving, just jump on Loop 12 to Northcentral Expressway to SMU.
She can play on TV at least twice a year against UCONN and her family can see her play at home. Go Mustangs!!! :)

I live about 5 miles from the SMU campus. I would certainly go watch her play.

Hmmm.... if she really wants to be closer to home, then someone needs to show her a map. Last time I looked, a flight from Columbia, SC to Irving, TX was only 15 minutes shorter than a flight from Raleigh-Durham, NC to Irving, TX! If SC is truly one of her finalists, then her REAL reason for leaving Duke hasn't come out yet! ;)

Duke has 2 guards on the roster now
I believe they will have
Ka'lia Johnson 5-9 (Sr)
Mercedes Riggs 5-7 (JC xfr) (Jr)
Greenwell 6-1 (So)
I suppose Sierra Calhoun (6-1) will have to play G (Fr)
Jenna Frush 5-6 (walk-on) (Sr)

On the other hand they do have a lot of height. 7 players 6-3 or above.

This should help us become a better passing team, just dribbling around to much in the past which did
not give the rest of our team the touches needed to reach there peak performances. We will be more
than most teams can handle but not looking forward to our visit with you.

Same here. SMU has a beautiful campus I almost went there a couple years ago if it wasn't for the price. Would love to see her come down to SFA lol, but I think she ends up at Baylor or Texas.

I don't consider Greenwell, or Calhoun guards. walk-ons don't count either

FYI I think Greenwell redshirted, and is a freshman.

They'll consider/count them this year.

Losing one of our best ballhandlers and only facilitators/creators will make us become a better passing team? There is a massive difference between a passing team and a good passing team.

As an aside, the entire Duke recruiting class of 2012 is now gone - Alexis Jones, Sierra Moore, Katie Heckman.

You may face the direction of the UConn Basketball Champion Center and recite the UConn WBB Roster five times, my son. May you find salvation through contrition. May the blue demons be cast out. Mike Flynn has tweeted that Duke Admin does not want to investigate complaints about player treatment.

Which transfer has a greater impact? UNC losing Diamond or Duke losing Alexis?

Diamond is the bigger loss. Many would have been touting Diamond for POY Awards. Diamond is a great player, Alexis is a very good player. Also reading between the lines I don't think Alexis was going to play next year because of her injury.

Diamond is a much more significant transfer. DeShields would have been a preseason 1st Team-All American and UNC would be a Final Four favorite with her. Without her, they are in the 8-15 range. Jones was expected to take a while to recover, and even with her Duke is only projected to be an 8-15 team. Without her, they'll more than likely fall out of the top 15. DeShields departure makes UNC go from being potentially great to very good, and Jones means Duke will go from good to good/above average.

What complaints?
When Sierra Moore left Duke, McCallie blocked her transfer to Louisville (which was her first choice), which greatly upset Moore's previous AAU coach, Mike Flynn, who is a big name in high school women's basketball (BlueStar, Philly Belles AAU). McCallie suspected that former Duke assistant coach Samantha Williams (now an assistant at Louisville) tampered by recruiting Moore (as she had also been Duke's contact during Moore's recruitment), so she blocked Moore's transfer to Louisville. And even if she was incorrect about the tampering charge (a suspicion McCallie made clear on her famous twitter account), Louisville had already accepted an invitation to the ACC and so again, she wouldn't have allowed the transfer based on those grounds anyway.

There have also been a lot of Duke transfers recently (by guards primarily) so it seems unlikely that these women are transferring to get more playing time. (Perhaps they are transferring to avoid playing too many minutes! ;)) Thus Mike Flynn, who clearly doesn't like McCallie, is implying there were more complaints (in addition to his very public complaints).

Cam or Triad would know for sure but someone tweeted that this is the 5th Duke starter to transfer over the past few years. (Emphasis on 'starter'.)

Nobody in his right mind would have touted DD for POY as long as Stewie and KML are able to lace up their sneaks.

Stranger things have happened. Back in 1986, Kamie Etheridge won the Wade Trophy; No way she was a better ballplayer than Cheryl Miller. If Ms Etheridege as much as dreamed of being as good as Cheryl Miller, she would have to apologize to her.

That number seems VERY high to me. And that tweet was by Winston Kelly, who is associated with the Philly Belles and BlueStar, so he could be just providing fodder for Mike Flynn, even if the factoid is untrue. But he actually didn't say the women all transferred but rather said they left the program: "WCBB: Duke's 3rd leading scorer Alexis Jones to Transfer, becomes 5th starter to Leave Program." LINK

Kianna Holland (class of 2013) transferred, but she never played a minute for the Blue Devils, so she doesn't count as one of the five.

I know that Sierra Moore (class of 2012) never started. In fact, to get playing time, she agreed to play the 4 her freshman year (she's 5'11" and never played the 4 at any level before she attended Duke). Katie Heckman (class of 2012) left the program due to a medical hardship. She is still enrolled at Duke and never played a minute there, so she is not one of the five. Alexis Jones, the third and final member of the 2012 class was a starter, and so she counts.

All of the class of 2011 are still on the team.

Chloe Wells (class of 2010) left the team late last season (her senior year), seeing action in 19 games but never starting. She started eight games her junior season, ten as a sophomore, and five as a freshman, so she is one of the five to leave the program, but she did not transfer. She makes two.

Alexis Rogers (class of 2009) transferred to Bowling Green after her freshman year, but she never started any of the 25 games in which she played. Fellow classmate Janee Johnson missed her freshman year due to a torn ACL, and then transferred after her freshman season as well. She never played for Duke.

Shay Selby (class of 2008) was suspended her senior year, but was later reinstated, so she didn't leave the program. Her last game that season was against Stanford in the Elite Eight when Duke was eliminated. Fellow classmate Chelsea Hopkins transferred to San Diego State after her sophomore year, but she never started for Duke averaging only 8 minutes per game her first two seasons there. Kathleen Scheer completed her eligibility at Duke, playing her last game in the Elite Eight like Shay.

The class of 2007 had only 2 members and both played all four years for Duke (Jasmine Thomas and Krystal Thomas). That pretty much finishes off the McCallie years, as she was hired in 2007. I only looked at Duke's players by recruits, so it's possible there were women who transferred in and them left the program.

Now if you read the tweet, Winston never provides a time frame for his comment, but there have been only 2 starters that have left the program since the class of 2008, and both occurred this year. Jones transferred and Wells left the team late in the season.

Emily Waner quit the team midseason (2007-2008) because of McCallie. She started a few games.

Brittany Mitch transferred after one year (2007-2008) because of McCallie. She might have started one or two games.

The exact language is:
"WCBB: Duke's 3rd leading scorer Alexis Jones to Transfer, becomes 5th starter to Leave Program."

Gray, Liston, Peters, and Jackson all graduated. All were starters last year (Jackson moreso after the Jones injury, but she had been a starter in prior years). Unless the author meant it in that context, in which he would *technically* be correct, there have not been five starters to leave the program in recent memory.
