He did have a couple good looks. The scripted High post pass to a cutter for a layup was nice, but the problem will always be kicking out from low post quickly when recognizing doubles. He did do a little better with that yesterday. Let's hope it continues.


He's a solid to actually very good one on one defender in the post, he bodies up really well, but he is not a good interior help defender at all, don't know if he will ever be at this point. You have to go back to 2012-2013 banned tournament team's combination of Enoch Wolf /Olander at the 5 to see Sanogo's type of interior help D.
 
Glad to see him bounce back after having a rough 3-4 games where he was attacked relentlessly in the other team's scout and then in the game seemingly. He's such an easy kid to root for, hopefully we have him a long time he's such a weapon for us!

Slightly yes, and he's playing the same minutes Edey did as a freshman. Bodes well for next year. I honestly don't think he has the stamina yet to play much more than 20 minutes. His highest is 21 min, and that was twice. Two 19 and two 18 min games. His low is 7 (Xavier and Ok State) and I think that's about defensive matchups.

I don't think he's played enough to work up a sweat yet, so it would be hard to make judgement about his conditioning.

Usage matters. Easier to shoot a higher % on 1/3 less shots a game.

On the flip side he definitely had at least one possession where he did his fade away jump hook in the lane as soon as he caught the ball.

This is his move where us fans are all used to him catching, dribble, dribble, dribble, pump fake and then shoot over/through the double team. It's the one we all moan and groan when we see. Instead, he caught turned and shot all in one motion and it was pretty obvious he took the shot way quicker than he was used to doing. He missed pretty badly (I think front rimmed it on a short-arm shot attempt0.
 
Some have asked whose game in college hoops Karaban either reminds me of, or, I would like to see him emulate? Watching him play tonite, Jacquez of UCLA.... I see many similarities... Assuming he gets there, he will be a great one

Karaban take and makes way, way more 3s than Jacquez. Jacquez is a bad shooter. Karaban is borderline elite. Similar size and rebounding/passing but not much else to compare IMO.

Good points... Jacquez better defensibly... True on the 3-s but Jacquez is a mainstay in the UCLA rotation
 
Not to take away from what Karaban has done, because he's been great this year, but part of being the best player on the team is that everyone knows you're the best player and works to take away what you're good at. Karaban doesn't force shots, which is a good thing, but he wouldn't be nearly as efficient if he was our go-to scorer or defenses keyed in on him as our biggest offensive threat. Great glue guy, does everything well, but I wouldn't say he's our best player yet.

I was just coming here to say the same thing. Marquette went at Alex over and over and over again tonight, and AK turned them back time and time again. I would guess 8 times they tried to go 1-1 iso against him, and I think they went 0-8 on those attempts.

Still think Hawkins is our best pure baller, both ends of the floor, but Karaban has a ton of intangibles he brings to this team. Clutch shooting, good finisher around the rim, can rebound, moves the ball quickly on offense. He might be our most complete offensive player. His defense has improved a lot the past month as he has gotten more time against Big East 4s.

He’s going to be one of my favorites of all time when it’s all said and done.

Alex and the Hawk's defense have grown immensely. They both are quick studies and real students of the game. The extra bench year for Alex has provided him with incites that even coaches don't have. His stepping to the passing lanes is a marvel along with his ability to position himself for a pass and uncontested three pointer are impressive. He plays with the maturity of a grad.
 
When he adds some better footwork on his drives this year, it's game over for the big east. He can already finish with both hands, just needs to learn footwork on his pivots and to finish off one foot. I think he's 16/6/3 kind of player next year and a potential all big east player.

The greatest thing about him is that even while he's learning, his style of play doesn't mean he's a burden on the team. He's rarely going to mess up the team with turnovers and bad shots.
