Hurleys lineup formula is not monolithic. He is very flexible in what he likes to do. Diarra i love the kid but i dont see him running the offense for 25 min a game and then handing it over to a fresh for 15 minutes. Solo is being overlooked and he is likely to take a big step forward and is definitely not playing pg as hes far to explosive to not take advantage of as a scorer and he will be our sg. Mahaney is also not going to be guarding opposing sg as he could struggle with that and at this point there is no CAstle to cover defensive short comings although i think Stewart could be that with his strength, length and quickness. We shall see as it’s a nice problem to have.
Mahaney can still initiate the offense even if he’s not playing “point” but diarra and nowell will almost always be guarding the opposing PG. the lineup is based on defensive matchups our guys are mostly interchangeable on offense

With his decision, another nice write up about AK and the team.

Good insights by Finkelstein. Alex has a lot of brains. There are other possibilities besides playing in the NBA for an entire career. Coaching at either the college or pro level can be lucrative as well. It's just great that his hard work and dedication will continue to pay dividends to him and whomever he ultimately spends his career with.

What starter in NCAA history has won three. I thought Kareem did but someone else referenced he only had two. Did Jamaal Wilkes maybe?
Kareem had three, along with three of his teammates (Warren, Allen, Shackleford).

UCLA also won the next four (with basically two different squads) but it is possible that a starter overlapped and ended up with three.

We are quickly approaching very rarefied air.

Mahaney and Ball could be the most effective 1-2, Diarra playing more minutes than last year but a similar role. Nowell has a chance to be a back breaker when we and our opponents have to go to the well for a back up PG. Guard play wins championships

3-4, WTF. McNeeley looks like a dangerous weapon and being with Alex creates a lot of mismatches offensively. Then you have Stewart who is the best athlete of the three and has a developing game to shoot, attack the rim and rebound. Hopefully there is even going to be spells of Abraham being a BIG 4 for us

5. Spencer, please add some bulk and coordination this year. That’s all we need you to do. Reed, great touch, great footwork. He has to learn to be a more willing passer and limit the TOs. I think he’s being undervalued regarding impact with a game that fits somewhere between Sanogo and Donovan. We have two different big men again. We can go low post or run you.

I think this team we will resemble more of a 23 team than 24, not as a premier talented as either but deeper with talent and wider with range if possibilities. It will be Danny’s biggest coaching challenge but also the most creative.

Pretty sure Spencer is focused on getting a summer camp invite, not bulking up to to play the 5 spot for us...

Fair point. Sure is a nice discussion to have.
I do think Hass has DH’s confidence. But, it always comes down to ‘being earned’. Being smart with the ball - handle - solid defense - and a reliable FT shooter (because that wins the close ones). We have some terrific players and terrific coaches. Another exciting time in the scheme of things… I really am excited about Alex’s leadership. He is the face of the current team - others will look to him.

Spencer is coming back too? It gets better every day, even if he’s 6’3 playing the 5

I'll be stunned if Purdue meets the CBS expectations. The guards proved they can be defended and their freshman 7'3 center is not going to be Zach Eddy in 2024-25 to bail them out. I don't see them as even top 25 next season

There might be a few teams who I'd take over us in November, but there's no one I'd take over us by March. The national media is absolutely clueless about the depth of insane talent on this roster.
All most of the "experts" are thinking is "UConn lost 4/5 starters and have a bunch of new players so no way they can win the title". Even though that was basically the story last year after winning the 1st title, and look what happened. They just dumb.

At least top 3. Most loaded roster under Hurley. Holy crap!!!
The Athlectic's new Top 25 dropped us from 5 to 7....similar to them cluelessly having us #2 to Purdue's #1 most of last season after Kansas dropped out of the conversation.

Agreed, Ross will get the kind of minutes Stewart and Ball got this year (8.9 and 11.5 mpg respectively). Important for his development.

80 minutes to share at the forward spots. 30 for Karaban, 24 for Stewart, 18 for McNeeley, 8 for Ross - something like that. I think Abraham learns in practice like Ross did this year.

I think the Stewart/McNeeley split may be closer to 22/18 but those minutes will work out during the season.

Someone mentioned McNeeley spending time at the 2. Intriguing thought. Good for him developmentally, nightmare for opponents if effective.

"I think he wants to make history again," Olga continued. "He wanted to go back, to have a special year for him, and he wanted to improve on some feedback he has gotten. It's been a combination of everything, I would say."
