I could be wrong but I would expect $7 million to bring a few one and dones to the roster,
He pays a price too. Imagine spending your youth in Utah. It's ultimately going to be bad for the sport. But can't really fault him for it.
Of course because the little guy was always getting the #1 recruits before this and BYU is clearly the big dog in college basketball. This is also Duke's first #1 recruiting class ever and it would be the first team they go deep with in the tournament if it happens. For the perceived little guys, this isn’t good. If the NIL floor is raising for talent, the teams with the funds will move forward.
I would love to know the dynamic of how it got to that level. What was the leverage, who was competing and for how much? And why? What is the perceived ROI? This is precedent setting stuff. If this Duke team goes deep this year, it will only reinforce the value and deepen the gap.

Ryan Smith negotiated like Steve Cohen just did with Juan Soto. "Go get an offer from whoever you want and I will top it."I would love to know the dynamic of how it got to that level.

Those alums always open their wallets when asked.Very intrigued by this experiment of dropping huge coin on one dude to try to single handedly (pretty much) build a basketball culture somewhere. It’s a very real possibility that they’re a middling team with one superstar next year. Does that still get the alums to open up checkbooks at a school that historically, doesn’t really care about basketball that much?
Well said. This seems accurate.Dybansta is a generational talent. Flagg could've commanded that this year, I kinda have more respect for how his recruiting went now. Ended up with the wrong school but seems to have done it in a more old school fashion in regards to making the choice. I also understand the way the Dybansta crew handled it, and I don't begrudge it. Their choice. If schools are willing to do this, I guess you have to look at it.
There are not many talents like Dybansta and Flagg, so no I dont think this type of money will be seen much, but to your point I think it did raise the floor on garden variety 5 stars values. Like maybe 1.5 million just went to 2.5.
This bubble will pop. But not yet. Gonna be a few years I think.
You missed the point. It all moves up, not just the top recruit. All scales and expectations will change, trickle down.Of course because the little guy was always getting the #1 recruits before this and BYU is clearly the big dog in college basketball. Our last 3 classes under Hurley: 2023- #3, 2024- #11, 2025- #3.For the perceived little guys, this isn’t good. If the NIL floor is raising for talent, the teams with the funds will move forward.

I feel confident he will find exactly what he’s looking for.Hope AJ finds what he wants. Provo and Joseph Smith are a strong combo
Hint- it’s in his bank accountI feel confident he will find exactly what he’s looking for.
I'm hearing your noiseI feel confident he will find exactly what he’s looking for.
Less worried about us, as have enough equity to carry forward and compete. More worried about the rest of the BE and then how that ultimately impacts us over the long haul if we don’t find a home in the new landscape. Our last 3 classes under Hurley: 2023- #3, 2024- #11, 2025- #3.
One guy changes nothing, But it's the combination of NIL and revenue sharing that is worrisome. the BE tv contract doesnt afford us any revenue to share, so while we've been competitive with Duke, KU, UK, etc. the extra few mill they will be able to "share" with their players on top of NIL will wipe out the "Hurley discount" we've been greatly benefiting from. this will become readily apparent for the class of 2026 if we're not in a power conference.
Dude is clearly a bum who is only looking for a paycheck
I wonder if Virgil ever came close to 7 mill for one year...This guy really went to the basketball power BYU? can’t make this stuff up man - like ted dibiase used to say “anybody can be bought”- what a joke
it was a joke mi amigo. I have no idea who the kid is. I hope he does well and makes as much money as possible.Ain't like the kid is degreeing in astronomical science engineering. Its all about basketball and if the NCAA wants to be greedy then I'm all for these kids getting their piece from their university who are monetizing his talents for tickets. Its a new day
Anyway if he gets hurt his freshman year, ruining his NBA prospects will he still be considered a bum?
