I don't know if I can handle waiting to watch him play when he first has to serve a two-year mission.

Jokes aside, love this:

LOL. Not sure if it’s accurate, but the Duke team page said they’ve played once back in 1992. So, yeah.

It'll be delicious if they get bounced the 1st weekend of the NCAAT or even better...if they miss it altogether
AJ probably won’t care much as long as his name still gets called 1 and he gets his supermax later.

I could be wrong but I would expect $7 million to bring a few one and dones to the roster,

I know that the new financial aid agreement doesn't mean as much as the NLI they used to sign, but this is kind of strange. From December 7 below. Maybe his father just wanted free tickets to high level college basketball games? Lol

Most recently, Ace watched North Carolina take on Alabama in Chapel Hill on Dec. 4. If their schedule allows it, the Dybantsa’s would like to see some other games.

“We would like to go to a Kansas game, but just depending on the schedule,” Ace said.

Now do you think Bill Self will leave tickets for Ace?

For the perceived little guys, this isn’t good. If the NIL floor is raising for talent, the teams with the funds will move forward.

I would love to know the dynamic of how it got to that level. What was the leverage, who was competing and for how much? And why? What is the perceived ROI? This is precedent setting stuff. If this Duke team goes deep this year, it will only reinforce the value and deepen the gap.

He can retire from basketball after his freshman year, invest in some good preferred stocks, and find his true identity as a podiatrist. :)

Of course because the little guy was always getting the #1 recruits before this and BYU is clearly the big dog in college basketball. This is also Duke's first #1 recruiting class ever and it would be the first team they go deep with in the tournament if it happens.

I'm guessing a lot of that number was from businesses, not just the rando boosters. He has actual marketability.

Ryan Smith negotiated like Steve Cohen just did with Juan Soto. "Go get an offer from whoever you want and I will top it."

If UConn isn't on his radar I couldn't care less what he does or where he goes. Good luck to him.

Very intrigued by this experiment of dropping huge coin on one dude to try to single handedly (pretty much) build a basketball culture somewhere. It’s a very real possibility that they’re a middling team with one superstar next year. Does that still get the alums to open up checkbooks at a school that historically, doesn’t really care about basketball that much?

Those alums always open their wallets when asked.

Dybansta is a generational talent. Flagg could've commanded that this year, I kinda have more respect for how his recruiting went now. Ended up with the wrong school but seems to have done it in a more old school fashion in regards to making the choice. I also understand the way the Dybansta crew handled it, and I don't begrudge it. Their choice. If schools are willing to do this, I guess you have to look at it.

There are not many talents like Dybansta and Flagg, so no I dont think this type of money will be seen much, but to your point I think it did raise the floor on garden variety 5 stars values. Like maybe 1.5 million just went to 2.5.

This bubble will pop. But not yet. Gonna be a few years I think.
Well said. This seems accurate.
I actually like the fact that a fringe basketball school like BYU, that has money, could yank these guys away from our competitors and us for that matter.

If we don't land the stud, fine with me if he goes to a middle of the road program.

I've seen crappy concert promoters land a big act and the festival still suuuuuuucks
