Air Force Post Game Thread

I was at the game and it looked like maybe 25k attendance which was very disappointing. Not sure if the hoops game against BYU hurt attendance, but it'd been nice to have a big crowd and one that was in their seats early to applaud the seniors when they were introduced pre-game.

There was definitely 30k+. Took a little bit for the Tailgaters to trickle in as usual

To stop the option it spreads out your D and makes it so you cant blitz basically as all areas of the field are at risk. As Mora said you cant replicate the speed or efficiency in practice. We were struggling with the FB so they kept at it. We were pretty good defending the edge. Lucky for us Air Force missed 2 big passing plays. Joe Fagnano hit #88 twice and he dropped them which hurt us in the first half. They also got some pressure on JF when he tried to hit Neider down the sideline. The offense started to use the run more and it helped us get the win. Cam Edwards was a warrior. He was out wide blocking on a WR screen in the 4th Q. Lots of players made key plays and Jim Mora has kept the team focused. Huge win really heading into the finale. Decent crowd that was into the game. 6-0 at the Rent. Remember this season.

Announced attendance was 31,457 and it seemed fairly accurate to me looking around at peak time (late 1st qtr).

Some sections looked empty, but it was pretty cold and a lot of people were on either the sunny side of the Rent or moving around the concourse.

Good teams win in the 2nd half. D got clutch stops when they need them and that's all they gotta do get timely stops. Nice fg to end the half had a td called back of course the flag had to be thrown a minute later and not during the play.

We took over in the 2nd half, was nice to beat Airforce at their own game. It actually felt a bit like a 2007-2010 kind of win. 26 pts would've been a high mark for us even in the Edsall 1.0 era, now 26 feels low for us. We adjusted and got a comforting 10 pt win. Glad our D didn't have to get back onto the field.

I was worried that Air Force would run it down UConn’s throats all game. They got their yards but we got the win after D improved.

Joe seemed off today. He may be injured and sorry to see he gave up his first official INT this season. It could have been worse as Bell prevented another INT and possible pick six with an incredible catch.

Give Cam the game ball for his tremendous effort. I still find it hard to believe that he started his UConn career as DB.

Now finish strong at FAU to maximize the bowling opportunities.
He was a great running back at Norwalks High. He played both ways.

I did my fair share of complaining in the game chat. And I do think at times we didn’t look great on either side of the ball.

But the defense did come up with some huge stops — especially that one long drive where they stopped Air Force on 4th down a few yards from the endzone. So props to them for this.

Major kudos to Cam Edwards and Skylar Bell. Absolute beasts. Balled out big time.

I’m sad there’s only one more game left before bowling!

It's really hard for me to complain after the down years. But in game chat I'm an emotional wreck. That said there were some good results today imo and as long as we win the train keeps rolling. We have some really special players to watch on this team and outside of the Syracuse debacle its been fun.

Yes. If UCTitleTown was sitting across from the press boxes, I can understand the low estimate. A lot of people moved from the shade to the sun, the side across from the press boxes was packed.

Well said, there is something to be said about Edwards, a guy with one D1 offer, recruited as a DB, becoming the best RB we have had in quite some time and a big part of the team coming back to relevance.

I saw Cam play multiple times in HS and he was on the field all the time. It just seemed odd he was shuffled to DB when he got here. Fortunately for us he was shifted to RB out of necessity and took advantage of it. Coaches got lucky there.

Definitely colder today but it was a good follow up crowd. Sun side lower and upper stands were mostly filled as was the end near score board. Student section was a major disappointment after last week’s win. Sparse would be giving them too much credit and shame on them for that. Game came as advertised- offered a nice blend of speed and power with their running game. After an initial solid opening drive, UConn offense looked to be suffering from slight hangover from last week. Credit to the coaching staff at half time for righting the ship. Offense came out angry. Fagnano also made a couple of very nice touch throws. D cam up big to stop the two point conversion. Finally, both teams with impressive long drives all game. Clock was just flying the entire game. Nice to be standing at the game’s conclusion to celebrate this historic home season. Double Mora’s salary immediately.

Today's win was a gritty gut check. No matter who the coach is we cannot stop the option. The only time we did Obi Melifonwu had like 23 tackles against Army. Its like you need one super special athletic freak that can roam freely with the wingspan of a condor.

That said the defense got 2 turnover on downs despite getting absolutely shredded all half. 2nd half they got a solid taste of their own medicine with Cam acting like a bowling ball chewing up clock for us with a lead churning out 1st downs.

That was a nightmare match up for us coming off a huge emotional win and playing against scheme that always gives us fits.
