Is it though when you consider the stunning lack of basketball success they ever had? In any event, no school with a football team would join the big east. We are a unicorn in that regard and are actively looking to get out.

Ideally it would be some type of merger and have at least 8 football programs. I don't know if 4 football with a round robin is even allowed.

Current 11 programs. Merge with at least 7 from the ACC to get basketball to 18 and football to 8. It's a pipe dream but so be it. Or 20 & 10.

If we can't have a return to the old Big East Football Conference, I'd like to see:
UConn, Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville, Va Tech, NC State, Georgia Tech, Duke, Wake, SMU, bcu (for ballast chief) to start... Then it depends who else from the ACC would merge if not in a P2.
 
With the announcement of the unequal revenue sharing in the ACC in the key tweets thread, a merger would be more likely. Maybe only 0.005% more likely, but it's something.

The ACC is a disaster. That conference becomes more and more divided every day. It is somewhat good news for Clemson and FSU but probably not good enough $$. Bad news for most of the others. Bonuses based on viewership while some programs get stuck with the crappy time slots. Good stuff.

They are stuck together. The ACC minnows will take an unequal deal because in their case it’s better than the alternative.

I'm not sure I get your leap of logic around here.

ACC, FSU, Clemson all agree to amicable terms and the conclusion jumped to was "so the ACC is going to die, right?"

The ACC is closer in revenue to the B1G and SEC than the BigXII, has better media markets with bigger name programs, and is willing to be flexible with it's members. The BigXII has to project a position of strength because it's not in one. If either conference is going to be raided by the other, it'll be schools leaving the BigXII to go to the ACC. Mark my words.

For 5 looong years I guess. I'll bet most fans of the minnows would prefer to just move on now, maybe become relevant again in a conference with some unity.

If that was the case Cal and Stanford would have stuck around with Wazzou and OSU to rebuild the PAC. Everyone outside the Autonomy conferences would give up a nut to get into the ACC for virtually no revenue like SMU.

Come on, you sound like Nelson. They do enjoy basketball and an ACC team is one of the co-favorites to win it all. Louisville is back. UNC is down, but that won't last.

I don't think UConn fans appreciate just how far below the ACC the Big East is, in an overall perspective for all sports. There are four, there is a huge gap, then probably the MWC, then a gap and then maybe the Big East. For all the talk of the gap between B1G and SEC and Big XII/ACC, that's the gap between an S Class Mercedes and E class, Big East is a used Hyundai Sonata.

UConn just went back to back... if you are comparing apples to apples for Olympic sports, the Big East TV contract just signed is on par with the ACC basketball equivalency (75-80% of its overall media contract).

If what were the case? Fans wanting to watch good basketball? It is the case. Even on the cuse board, many of those posters wish they were playing basketball in the Big East. Yes, it's nice to cheer about media revenue, but they would rather root for a team which at least makes the Big Dance. I am sure they would prefer the ACC do what its gonna do sooner rather than later. ACC 2.0 would probably still be on par with the Big XII, ideally.

5? The year is 2025. I don't see anyone moving before 2032 given that the price only drops to $120m around then.

Who here thinks this ACC agreement means the ACC in 2030 will look the same as today? I sure don't. I just can't see that conference holding as is for that long. Maybe FSU and Clemson pay up and get out sooner. UNC has more money than anyone, it too could bolt. It sounds like it is a heck of a lot cheaper now, especially if the GOR is included in these new figures. Heck $100 mill is a bargain compared to the numbers people were throwing around before.
