ACC Big East merger | The Boneyard

ACC Big East merger

We’ve already discussed this. And it is possible. It’s 100% impossible. They will cherry pick the best they don’t have to take it all. But they are going to take it all. Creighton is and isn’t a good fit. The B12 and ACC are going to merge. They are not going to merge. They are going to do some trades. WV for Cal and a University to be named later.

It’s all there if you take the time to read the other threads that say a lot. And nothing.

It is a real longshot, but this topic is worth its own thread.

On a related but separate note, this forum is becoming a misery. Most of our fanbase is emotionally invested in the failure of UConn athletics, and viciously attack every remotely positive story about realignment options for UConn without ever offering a remotely realistic alternative. We might want to consider changing the title of this forum to the "UConn Sky Is Falling" board.

aren't you the Seton Hall north guy? lmao

.-.
They aren't going to "merge," if anything the ACC would cherry pick some Big East teams and even that is unlikely. Why would they need to merge with us when there's only like 4 teams in the conference anyone cares about

No they won’t. Once upon a time they took BC so that means they have to take DuhPaul.

Someone actually believes that too.

This is exactly what I mean. Anyone that says anything positive about UConn gets blitzed with ridiculous straw man attacks that other UConn-hating posters then pick up.

Only an idiot or a fundamentally dishonest person would makes such a ridiculous claim as saying I want UConn to be like Seton Hall. Which one are you?

I think people are just worn out. It's been 14 years.

I think it is possible with the leaves running separately. How about big east plays in the big east division and ACC plays in ACC division. Top 16 seeds meet in new York’s.

Yes and no. UConn has won 4 men's basketball titles in those 14 years, and 5 since the first "sky is falling, this is the end of UConn athletics" news broke in early 2003. UConn has also made a major bowl game in that time.

We all get that there are some obstacles, but a lot of posters on this board wallow in it and get angry with anyone else that is remotely optimistic about the program. It has been going on for over 20 years, and it gets old after a while.

Just let me be depressed, Nelsonmuntz

Thanks for outlining your posting style for the newbies. Will make explaining your posts easier.

I think it's a real possibility. With the A4 talking about controlling the basketball tournament, they're going to need these votes on their side to do that. The Big East gets to keep dancing and the ACC gets to keep it's seat at the table longer.

yes, you're Mr Brightside.

Here are the facts:
The Big Ten and SEC are the 2 power brokers. They will determine the future of football and most likely basketball
The Big XII and ACC are more or less equivalent. The Big XII was saved by the Corner 4. The ACC is being held together by the GOR
The AAC, PAC 12, and the rest of the G6 can only react

Various scenarios have been debated. 2 of the strongest basketball conferences, Big East and ACC, are now falling behind. We've mentioned a merger. Coach K has mentioned a merger. It's worth a discussion.

Whether a merger or poaching, the ACC and Big East make sense for basketball. But only if it held together. The biggest issue I see is if and when the GOR gets cracked, the ACC will be ripped apart like a downed wildebeest.

No way there is a full merger unless the basketball only BE teams take only a cut of bball revenue and olympic sport revenue. UConn would come in prorated for football for a while.

Wait. That sounds just like the old BE model which blew up for obvious reasons.

Yes, but the times they are a changin

I remember when the ESPN commentators mentioned the possibility of a merger when UConn hosted College GameDay last year

The old Big East model was working very well until the ACC tore it apart. It was well ahead of its time.

based on history, ESPN tactics would be to invite Uconn, Villanova and St Johns, blowing up the conference and leaving Fox with bad inventory.
I agree. With Cal/Stanford now I could also see Gonzaga being included in the BB-only invites

I think other dominos will fall before this has a chance to happen

29 hoop schools. 18 football schools.
