ACC 2025-26

I feel similarly about the Duke State game, not as strongly, but still I miss playing losing to them twice a year. I'd gladly give up playing BC or SMU or whoever for a return to an emphasis on regional rivalries. That's what makes college sports fun.
Fixed it for you 🙃

It's the idea about it being at a neutral site that I'm not big on. It's the "old lady yelling at the cloud" in me, but it doesn't seem right if they can't play both games on their respective campuses during the season.
I'm with you. Hypothetically if this were to happen they should play the other game at whoever doesn't get the home game in the conference schedule. Neutral site games in general don't do well for attendance.

In football this past year State and UVA played a non conference game, so it's not totally foreign. Way back in the day they used to have the Dixie Classic where State, UNC, Duke and WF would play a 4 team tourney that didn't count towards the conference in MBB.

State is 51-41 all time vs Duke. It's 5-5 over the last 10. 11-6 over the last 10 years against Duke. Have to go back to the days of Kellie Harper to have those memories of being swept by Duke on a regular basis.

Land Grants and Flagships in the same conference should play twice a year. Whether it is State vs Chapel Hill, Michigan State vs Michigan, or Montana vs Montana State. I wish State and Duke would play twice a year, but I kinda rather have Wake and Duke play twice a year instead.

I guess I haven't been paying attention but VPI is 18-5. 😦😦😦😦.
They're on a 7-game winning streak since losing at Louisville way back on January 4th. Now, granted, they've often been at home against some of the ACC's less competitive teams, but they did beat Clemson and Virginia in Blacksburg and Syracuse at the Dome.

Things get a bit more challenging when they head to South Bend this Thursday in a battle of Muffet McGraw's former-point guards turned head coaches (Megan Duffy vs Niele Ivey), then NC State comes to Blacksburg. The Hokies then do the dreaded left coast swing to Cal and Stanford.

That said, Coach Duffy is getting a lot out of this team, which is led by Carys Baker and Carleigh Wenzel, both of whom are averaging 14+

Stay tuned.

I'll be interested in seeing how Notre Dame fares in this one. I don't think the Domers can win a rock fight (which is what Virginia Tech will force them into if the Hokies seize control the game) nor can they run with the Hokies, but they should win if they shoot well (they might do this) and stay out of foul trouble (they have Cowles, so they won't do this). It's worth pointing out that unlike most midlevel ACC teams, Virginia Tech has a guard quartet that can make things difficult for Hannah. I don't know who steps up for ND if she's not hitting the way she's used to. The talent is really lacking for the Domers this season.

Somfai just missed a triple double for Stanford against Pitt. 15/23/8. That's a lot of rebounds! 'Furd won handily, which usually happens when someone plays Pitt.

It's been fun watching Gisella Maul finally at full speed and become a go to player for the Bears. She scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, collected her third double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-tying 13 rebounds in Cal's win over GT. She was a top recruit for Texas after being Texas Gatorade POY in 2022, but after an injury skipped senior season to do rehab at Texas instead....played one season, but transfered to Cal with 3 seasons left. I love watching her play and seeing her blossom as a starter. Maul leads Bears to win

Monster day in the ACC - particularly for bubble teams.

Stanford/UVa in a game where the loser is in serious trouble!

Cal/VT, if VT wins they are close to locking up a bid. If Cal wins they put themselves squarely on the bubble, perhaps on the right side? Cal needs this one.

Clemson/syracuse, the Orange are playing for seeding but Clemson needs a win like this to solidify their spot in the big dance.

Duke/UNC, can the Heels make a push to host? Can Duke inch closer to locking up the regular season title?

State/ND, two teams playing for seeding and in States case at least playing for the double bye in the ACCT.

Then of course you have SMU bobble head night against Pitt and BC still on a march for perfection against a Miami team who could possibly threaten that clean 0-13 record.

I'm confused. Cal is 0-8 in Quad 1 games. This isn't a Q1 game for them (or for Virginia Tech, for that matter), so how can they jump onto the right side of the bubble with a win?

You mean 7-6 Notre Dame, who inches closer to the bubble with a record approaching 0.500 (and games left to play against Louisville and Syracuse).

SMU smoking Pitt, and Miami comfortably ahead of BC. There are different levels of terrible, and Pitt and BC are displaying the true degree to which they are awful.

i didn’t say the right side of the bubble - I said squarely on the bubble. Before this week I saw where Cal was considered in that “next 4 out” group, so essentially 5-8 spots away from being in. This week they already beat UVa who was considered the last team in going into the week, if they also beat VT who is one of the last 4 in - I’d imagine that has to move Cal up a few notches. Is it enough to get them if the season ended today? Idk. But I think they would be by definition a bubble team.

As for ND, believe me I’d love to suggest they may miss the tournament - but everything I’ve seen has them in pretty easily. A loss to State won’t jeopardize that. They would need to really strike out down the stretch to get on the bubble (lose to State, UL, Syracuse and probably still have to drop one to wake or SMU to truly be in question). I think ND is probably around the 8 seed right now - will take a lot to miss the big dance from that spot.

I swear every time State plays Duke Jackson morphs into Reggie Miller but tonight against Duke 1-8 from 3 and Duke is settling for some jumpers. Fournier with 2 big missed FTs and a bad fade away off one foot Dirk type shot from the FT line that misses.

Getting tight in Durham.

Duke hangs on. 21 FTs for Duke. 0 for UNC. Can’t wait to hear Bangharts post game comments.
Lol.....our inability to defend them in the interior couldn't possibly of had something to do with it. They made an obscene # of wide open shots with us no where to be found😶‍🌫️
