ACC 2025-26

I liked this article. Not sure how everything will bear out but North Carolina really needs a bunch of their underclassmen to step up this year. I really do like all of their games individually but it's a super tall task to replace Utsby, Donarski, and Gakdeng. I think unc is a team that could either be good or surprisingly bad. Like I think I'd take the team with Hannah Hidalgo over them, or Louisville with Coach Walz. I'm just saying they are kinda being pencilled in as a team just as good as last year but they are dramatically different.

I ain't buying what they are trying to sell. Way overranked

What they are selling has as much substance as UNC's AFAM classes from, say, 1992 until 2010. :-)
Im trying to remember what my camp counselor said about the academic prowess of Hurley and Laetner. One was favorable as to the academics and the other not.

I think I recall but don't want to cast aspersions.

As part of Stanford's ACC pre-season press release touting being picked to finish 6th, I thought the following was quite interesting:

Not surprised Stanford has the fewest transfers but the others (NC State, Washington, and Oklahoma) were an interesting mix.
Can’t speak to Washington and Oklahoma - but with State Wes Moore has said the main focus was to retain as many players as possible. State lost Lacy Steele but kept everyone else. Wes has always preferred a short bench and a tight rotation. I think State desperately needed a starting 4 and someone to compete to start at the 3.

They definitely had swings and misses for much of the portal but ended up with exactly what they were after. Samuels represents the player who can compete with Quigley at the 3 to start and play major minutes. She gives 3 point shooting and hopefully defense and rebounding. Pierre is the 4 they needed last year frankly and certainly this year.

Not surprised. 3 and D with some attitude (in a good way). I wonder who starts. Looking forward to watching the team this year

After the Maryland game Wes admitted that Samuels was the starter at this time but that it could change as the season goes on. I think she provides length and rebounding that Quigley doesn’t have. Quigley is maybe slightly more well rounded offensively. I think regardless they are both going to get a lot of minutes because I think there will be times when State doesn’t want to play Zoe and Zam together always. They make for a small back court and Quigley would represent a bigger 2 on the court and Q could continue at the 3 alongside her.

Conference play starts today? Louisville-Clemson. Seems rather early. Is this normal?

If I had to predict the ACC right now, I would go with Duke or UNC. Neither has been that impressive to me. But they have the talent to improve as the season progresses. Some of the others in the conference look a little hopeless.

I would pick Duke or NC State.

When UNC gets drubbed their own folks report things like, "that was pretty good effort" so it's difficult to take them too seriously.

No, not at all. Conference play usually starts in December.

I had Duke by quite a bit preseason, but I'm switching to NC State. They don't have any bad losses and have room to grow. PG situation isn't ideal, but they didn't lose to a team that had five players for an entire half.

I do think that Duke can win the ACC Tournament again, though.

States got a lot to work on. The pieces are there I think, I was encouraged with the bench play against TCU - Quigley, Cox and Lunan gave really good minutes. The stars weren’t stars.

Zoe 2-12
Pierre 4-15
Zam 0-9

That’s pretty pathetic.

Zoe and Pierre do all their damage 15 ft and in, right now the lane is clogged. State isn’t getting good ball movement and there hasn’t been enough shooting to open things up. Quigley, Tilda and Zam are all good capable shooters - but the ball has to move to get them those looks. Zam is the only one capable of getting her own shot off the bounce from deep, but that doesn’t need to be the only way it comes.

When the ball movement improves I think you’ll see Pierre and Zoe get much cleaner looks and efficiency improve. But it’s on Zoe and Zam to get the ball moving. Pierre too for that matter. She’s fallen in love with a fade away off one leg post move that just isn’t getting it done.

Right now Tilda is the best offensive player on the team and lone floor spacer. But she doesn’t create for herself either. I love Zoe but she’s got to get the offense going with drive and kicks and ball reversals. It’s too easy to defend State right now.

Really love the potential of Lunan. She’s obviously young and is very prone to turnovers and mistakes - but you can see a high ceiling in her. Both sides of the ball.

Idk who I’d bet on to win the conference. The ACC is not looking great right now. Haven’t watching UL yet, but ND is not it, and no way I’m picking UNC to do it - probably still Duke or State at this point. It’s super early - teams grow and improve. No need for anyone to get too over the top yet about anyone.

I know this is a thread about WBB, but since its ACC related... I'll post it here. Been a Duke football fan since 1st or 2nd grade....... seen plenty of ups and downs..... more downs than ups. Multiple 0 win seasons, heartbreaking losses and such. But tonight, we won the ACC Football championship for the first time since 1962. Duke is the first school to win the ACC championship in the same calendar year in MBB, WBB, and Football. 😊😊😊

Word coming out of NC State that Lorena Awou has been suspended from the program, effective immediately.

I had suspected this. She didn’t dress when they were in Cancun “coachs decision” and then didn’t travel to Oklahoma.

Idk what the issue is exactly, I’ve heard rumors but they are rumors and only that. I have seen with my own eyes a lack of maturity. The last game she was dressed for was Rhode Island and they lost. She didn’t play, but directly after the game when the team went to mid court for the alma mater song she was dancing, skipping, laughing and joking like in celebration mode after they just lost to freaking Rhode Island. It was bizarre. Another player had to sort of grab her arm and get her to knock it off. She hasn’t dressed since.

I don’t think that alone got her suspended, but I do think she has had issues stemming from immaturity since arriving. She was suspended I believe for a game or two last year around this time. She has a lot of untapped potential but can’t seem to put it together.

I have heard some rumors, too. It probably wouldn't be good to discuss unsubstantiated rumors on a thread that others have access to, if for no other reason than they may not be true. I'll shoot you a private message to discuss what I heard.

Are Notre Dame and the ACC going through a divorce or is this CFP snub the reaction of a whiny child rolling and screaming on the department store floor?
I think it's all politics and optics. What did he expect Commissioner Jim Phillips to advocate for Notre Dame (who is not a member of the conference in football) over Miami (who IS a member of the conference for football). I think all of this is just lip service to soothe the fanbase.

Maybe this will force Notre Dame to join the ACC (or some other conference) for football. They wanted to remain independent in football, and now this sticky wicket we're experiencing now was destined to happen eventually. If they had beaten Miami, this wouldn't be an issue.

That being said...I think Notre Dame should be in the CFP over James Madison. ND was 4 points from being undefeated. JMU is good but I doubt they'd have the record they do if they had played Notre Dame's schedule.

Ok...back to WCBB!

Is Notre Dame a part of the ACC in all sports except football?
