ACC 2025-26

Not sure what your opinion is on this article but mine is this:

The next BIG WIN UNC has, will be their 1st under Courtney Banghart. This team is vastly over rated, yet they have highly ranked players but the sum of their parts is less than the whole. I will be watching with great interest in their upcoming ACC games vs. Louisville, ND, NC State and Duke to see how they really perform. They got blown out in a scrimmage by Tennessee, lost by 15 to Texas and 18 to UCLA so I am NOT sold on this team at all. And NO, I am not trying to curry favor with @triaddukefan by saying this (but if he approves, it will make me happy).

I have wanted to like Banghart for what she achieved at Princeton but her petulant behavior over the years at UNC has irritated me and her garnering of top players but underachieving in both the ACCT and NCAAT has me skeptical on her actual coaching. She needs to advance further than the Sweet 16 at some point and finish higher than 4th in the ACC and make it to an ACCT final. For gosh sake's Banghart has only made it to one ACC Semi-final in her 6 years of coaching at this school. So until she actually wins something of note at UNC, this is much ado about NOTHING. Hopefully Triad is happy....

I’m not a big Banghart fan. I think her comments and demeanor are far removed from what she’s actually accomplished with talented rosters.

That said, North Carolina looks the best this year that I’ve seen them under Banghart. Offense is smoother and they’ve played one of the stronger across-the-board schedules nationally (UCLA, Texas, Fairfield, Columbia, SDSU, K-State).

They only scored 60 and 64 against UCLA and Texas but those numbers would probably have been in the low 50s last year.

With the caveat that the ACC doesn’t have a Final Four contender to be found, I think they’re a top two favorite to win the league.

UNC under Banghart has had victories against Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame, NC State. The issue with is with them is that in any given season, they will lose a random non conference game and at least two or three games against mid to lower tier ACC teams like Boston College, Georgia Tech, Miami (down year version), Syracuse, Virginia, and Wake Forest. Plus she seems to have an apathetic attitude towards the ACC tournament. I don't know if she is like that because she didn't have to coach or play in a post season conference tournament when she was in the Ivy League.

Scoring 64 against Texas is actually pretty good isn't it? Nobody else has done better so far. Well, UCLA scored 65, but 1 point is splitting hairs. South Carolina also scored 64.

I don't disagree with your overall take, I would maybe question just how strong that schedule is really. K State doesn't look very good at all this year and I know SDSU and Fairfield have nice NET rankings, I'm still not sure how great they are. But that's not the larger point, I do think UNC will be in the mix for the conference this year. I think there are about 5 schools who realistically will be in that fight : Duke, UNC, State, ND and Louisville. All of them have their warts, none are elite this year. In year's past the ACC regular season champ may go 16-2 or something like that, I'd be surprised if that's the case this year. I think the conference has a decent number of good to mid tier teams but lacks true elite teams.

And in a humdinger on the road Miami holds on to beat Wake Forest. Former UNLV Reb guard Amarachi Kimpson in 37 minutes scores 17 points in the Hurricane victory.

NC State is improving rapidly. After beating Miami 87-61 on the road Sunday, the team topped Georgia Tech in its ACC home opener, 87-58. The score is a bit misleading; we were up 40 points early in the 4th quarter. GT was held to 3 points in the 3rd quarter.

I think they've figured something out with Zam running the show. If she continues to play like this it's a game changer. She's been fantastic as the initiator and engine of the team. 27 assists and 4 turnovers over her last 5 games to go with 17 ppg over that stretch. I really like how the team looks and operates with her at the helm and Zoe more off ball. I think Zoe is still trying to figure out her role and when to do her thing, but KP has found herself within our team and we've gotten steady play from Tilda game in game out. The bench has improved greatly too, Maddie Cox and Ky'She have added something. Last couple of games have been good at the 3 spot from Quigley OR Samuels, need to find more consistency there, I thought Quigley was great against Miami but poor against GT and Samuels was great against GT.

I can easily see UNC finishing in fourth behind Louisville, NCST, and Duke. They just haven't performed well in big games: perhaps this year will be different.

Boston College did it again, lost to Northeastern 73-67. It's gonna be an epic battle between BC and Pitt to find out who is the worst team in the ACC this season.

Somebody needs to tell Stanford a game is 4 quarters, not 3. Getting absolutely smoked in Q4 against NC State. They were hanging around, but now it's 70-39. 19-2 in the final frame so far.

edit--wait a minute, I thought the Card were a 4th quarter team?

The SMU futility tour marches on. Thumped by the Ville 91-58,

74-46 final. Pack w/ the 42-20 advantage in the 2nd half. Ouch.

I look forward to the woofing gods wreaking havoc on every PNW team for the rest of this season. 😔🤬

Don't look now, but you know who is all alone in First place
I've been watching some Duke highlights, they are definitely getting into a groove. Unfortunately right before the ND game. Side note, is Skinner still injured? I looked online and couldn't find anything. Unsure if there's some Duke forums or fans who know more. I was really excited to watch her this season.

We've already been over this. No woofing gods are needed. UW has plenty enough trouble without divine intervention. Fully expecting a loss to Michigan today. Remember that 4th quarter meltdown by the Huskies against your Card? No woofing gods were invoked by me that day, and it still happened.

Yes, and it is looking more and more like she will redshirt.

Skinner is still out. No time table for return. However it’s looking like a red shirt year. She used to participate in warmups and dress out. The last few games she has been in street clothes and with a note pad. No official word tho.

Looks like Duke and State are continuing to round into form after slow starts. Louisville is right there too. ND with an embarrassing loss to GT today.
