Local businesses arent going to pay the same amounts of money that megarich donors were willing to give through collectives and foundations. There has to be real businesses looking for services. So if there are a bunch of real businesses vying for the services of the same athlete then the market rate will go up.

There could be under the table NIL deals Im sure, but again they wont be violations of NCAA regulations, they'll be violations of the law. And there will be lots of eyes on all the programs.

Yeah after the house settlement these rules should be much easier to enforce. Not sure how much people would want to test the law when there’s already so much money out there in today’s time compared to when it was testing the NCAA with no money out there.

You were somewhat informed on one situation and are using that one specific instance to make a general statement that CT kids don’t want to come to UConn….

I’m using my past experience being super ingrained in the CT HS hoop scene and seeing how there were very few UConn fans.

This kind of commentary to make it seem like I don’t know what I’m talking about is so stupid.

You do come across as not knowing what ur talking about…you have died on several hills before, the shooting dip, solo should be our pg, Hurley doesn’t play freshman….etc
UConn is a national program that doesn’t need to rely on local talent ie not recruiting Ryan Gomes and instead going after emeka….
Your anectodal evidence from one recruitment has done nothing to change minds that you have the pulse of the local ct basketball scene.

These examples show that you’re someone who gets off on purposefully misunderstanding my posts and/or ignores clear evidence of something to keep your stance.

I’m not going back and forth on this because you want to weirdly be stuck on this stance and aren’t open to changing it.

More than anyone else if someone can’t admit the shooting dip one then it’s just a bit or you’re stubborn. There’s more than enough evidence for that to stop being something actually debated outside of the bit some on this board likes to do on any stance I take.

Rash Jones is obviously outside the 15-20 year window but he brings up a dilemma. He went to school at Trinity Catholic in Stamford but he's from Port Chester, NY. Does he count as a Connecticut kid? I say no. If he counts then every kid that went to places like St. Thomas More and South Kent (when they were bringing in national talent) would count as a Connecticut kid.

STM and South Kent are completely different from Trinity Catholic. Those are boarding schools. Trinity Catholic (which, sadly, no longer exists) was a locals school, with a small portion of its student body who commuted from the surrounding communities. Port Chester, NY is only two towns over from Stamford, with Greenwich sitting between them. Rash was considered a local kid when he played here in Stamford. Definitely not a prep kid. Nope.

I hear you but in my opinion he wasn't from Connecticut since he was born and raised in New York. He grew up in Mount Vernon, NY, the same place Ben Gordon is from. Not sure when he moved to Port Chester but I think he went to school in Mount Vernon through 8th grade. His senior year at Trinity Catholic he was the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year so I can see why some would say he's from Connecticut.

What if a kid from Springfield commuted to Suffield Academy everyday as a day student. In your opinion would he be a Connecticut kid?

I don't really care about the from Connecticut thing. It's muddled by the fact that we dominate the prep school space. I would like to see the staff hit on as many of the guys they want as possible. That includes Toure. I think being local to the recruit either gives us a significant advantage or a real disadvantage. Some guys want to get away from home.

It's really only Putnam Science Academy and St. Thomas More in CT consistently putting out D1 kids.

South Kent puts out some players if I recall, but my point is more that New England/NY dominates. There are others like Monteverde, Oak Hill and Sunrise Christian and lots more, but we have more near us than any other top tier program.

I can’t answer that because I’m not from that area. Most of the people here don’t even consider lower Fairfield County part of CT. There’s a clear bias. But I’ll say this… Rash spent every waking hour for four years in Stamford. And he spent many sleeping hours here in CT too. He lives and works here too. That’s all good enough for me to consider him at CT guy.

Tremont Waters played at South Kent for three years before playing his senior year at Notre Dame of West Haven. An usual prep to public move.
