Both things can be correct: Past recent teams might have lacked quality depth and future teams might be projected to have too much depth. NONE of this has anything to do with Aaliyah Edwards though.
Agreed, but if you were a HC which problem would you prefer?

In thinking back on players who have chosen to leave Uconn, very few make that choice based on 'playing time' specifically because in reality Geno was making that choice for them. They were not getting playing time because they were not getting 'it' - in practice and in the limited court time they did get, they were not performing at his standard for whatever reason. There was no guarantee they would in future get 'it' so they chose not to try to get it and left. And generally they struggled to succeed elsewhere as well.

The history of Uconn is full of players who weren't supremely talented and never started and never got significant minutes, but who loved every minute and got 'it' and stayed all 4 years. There were also some very talented players who never started but stayed because they got 'it'. And there are a lot of players who impatiently bided their time behind other players as they learned and matured until they got their minutes.

Napheesa is a perfect example - she got her 'audition' for being a starter her freshman year and failed and watched Lou replace her - but she worked and waited and got her shot and succeeded.

I know we live in a world that emphasizes immediate gratification (and entitlement) and sports fans are probably worse than other segments of the population, but that is not the world of Uconn WCBB and Geno and the coaching staff (nor of most successful sports franchises or businesses.) And generally it is not the world of Uconn recruits - it is part of Geno's selection process in recruiting that he chooses those players who understand it is about work and the process and the team, and not about the individual.

In an effort to push back to Aaliyah, here is the full decision video
Thank you.
At the end of the video Aaliyah is pictured in a UCONN uniform. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that is a photoshop worthy of @Biff. The give away is the Molten ball which is the ball used by FIBA and not the Nike ball used by UCONN.

Ooh, #1 and #1a. Paige and Azzi were the best players in high school last year, even better than Jones and Horston. Azzi won half of the NPOY awards--as a sophomore. Would you rather have Diana or Maya? I think it depends on the need. Both can play the 1, 2, and 3. Paige is better at the 1; Azzi is better at the 2 or 3. Paige may be the best passer since Diana. Azzi may be the best shooter since Steph Curry (no comparisons on the women's side; she's a 50/40/90 shooter). Paige is fiery, like Diana. Azzi is smooth, like Maya. I'd give you first choice and would be thrilled to get the player you didn't pick. But think about them together. Sue and Diana rarely lose when they play together; well, think about Paige and Azzi. Sounds like a backcourt for the ages. BTW, they would be on the floor with Squeaks!

I believe this year's WNBA MVP was a 50/40/90 player (ED)?

Yes, Elena was a 50/40/90 shooter in the WNBA this year. It was the first time anyone accomplished it in the WNBA. I haven't checked her college stats, but I wouldn't be surprised if she accomplished that at Delaware also.

BTW, in both of Kaleena's All-American seasons, she was literally 1 missed free throw from 50/40/90.

I don't see Azzi as a 97% FT shooter ( EDD's form is unusual but insanely accurate), but she's the best shooter since Kaleena. I'm pretty sure she has been at or near 50/40/90 for each of her high school seasons. Azzi has her mother's (Katie Smyrka-Duffy Fudd) shot, which is mechanically sound and repeatable. Azzi's shot is a thing of beauty.

Thanks! 48/41/91 isn't too shabby for a career. Elena's overall shooting was the (relatively) weak spot.

Maya was 53/40/80.

Kaleena was 49/45/87.

Lou was 49/42/85

Sveta was 50/41/67.

Sue was 48/46/89.

Dee was 47/39/82.

Kia was 48/42/78.

Mo was 55/42/82 (56/43/89 as a Senior)

You two guys (Steelerone and Jingo) certainly have mastered the art of seeing a full glass as at least half empty.

I think the only players who are at any real risk of being dissatisfied with their playing time are Westbrook and the two European players. Evina may have her minutes limited this year by her knee (assuming she gets the waiver), and next year by Ms. Bueckers. If she doesn't get a waiver and if The BeFuddler comes in the fall of 2021, she (Evina) will likely be starved for minutes and be impatient to play at the pro level.

The European players have the option of immediate pro play, which is not available to American or Canadian players. Their likelihood of staying probably depends on how much value they attach to the college experience apart from basketball.

Otherwise, I think there will be enough minutes for everyone. And I think that worrying about those eventualities at this point is a completely unnecessary downer.
It doesn't matter where they come from if they leave. And if you have a competitive nature and are talented you want to play. If that means going to another school, well, that's the new face of college sports. It has nothing to do with a glass being empty or full. It's called taking a bus to reality.

:eek:You have a very valid point. The "downer" part is that you chose to include that point in a thread about Aaliyah signing with UCONN. If you can't get excited about Aaliyah signing then mail in your UCONN fan card and please check your pulse. :D
Oh I'm excited and my pulse is 60 :)

I think ED is really really good, but those numbers were put up against much the same level of competition that Butler had in winning the national rebounding title. I always admired her ft shooting.

Elena shot a WNBA record 97.4% on FTs in the regular season. The only NBA player ever to surpass that was Jose Calderon at 98.0% for the 2008-09 season. EDD can match Steph Curry or anyone else on FT shooting.
