In. Billboard sounds good as does a donation to his charity.

Since the billboard idea seems to be sticking especially now with FluxTZ saying he can spearhead the actual acquisition of said billboard, why don't we start throwing out real ideas for what to put on the billboards and then start a new thread that is a poll with the best handful of ideas as choices.

No brainer - three pictures for three titles - 1 of him at the end of the 99 game, one of him holding the 04 trophy, 1 of him hugging Kemba after the 11 game. And as I said previously a request to donate to his charities/practice facility with web links. Finally a 'Sponsered by www.the-boneyard.com'

Too easy.

Let's take a step back. It's been one or two hours. The billboard thing pops because it's big and brash. It would be easy to orchestrate.

Let's stop saying "I'm in" and put our thinking caps on. What could we do for his charity? What could we do at games to show our thanks? What could we do to make Coach say "Whoa"?

It's not the time or place tonight to get a billboard printed by Monday morning. We have a chance to show him our thanks. Let's truly take advantage of this opportunity. Think, people.....think.

I am willing to accept the self appointed position of corporate treasurer for this kind and charitable gesture on behalf of JC. During the process I can choose the most effective corporate structure to bring all our gift giving ideas to fruition. Cash management and liquidity risk management are my specialties!

Let me know if I can help. I will act in the best interests of UConn fans worldwide$$$$$ :D.

I have the perfect departing gift for good Ole Jimmy! Lets roll...or was that the saying for yesterday!

I think I've pointed out how a billboard could help his charities far more than the few of here can.

I'm just saying. We don't HAVE to get it locked and loaded tonight. Let's make sure we are using our collective brainpower to come up with something eyepopping. He deserves that.

Although I expected it, I'm still too stunned by the news to focus and try to come up with a better idea than the ones that have been floated so far. But I want to confirm that I am in, and I do see the merit in a billboard that refers people to one of his charities, while simultaneously thanking him in a grand way, in that billboard, another billboard or something else.

PS: Is Dr. Dos still around? We also need a super-duper version of one of those crazy awards he used to give out. Deep, you may even have gotten one at some point?

I have a gold encrusted, whatchamahoozit doohicky thingys with some sort of filigree laying around somewhere in my attic. (p.s. - Dr Dos was one of my favorite hall of fame posters)

Mine too. Someone needs to find him.

And how about lark? Did he make the latest migration to this site, or do I need to reach out to him off-board? He usually had some thoughtful input on stuff that required, well, thought.

He deserves it. We have the ability to be creative and the resources to put something splashy together.

So, what are we going to give him?

Something as simple as a card signed by us?
A billboard near Hartford
An ad inside Gampel this season?
Ten hookers and a case of Cristal sent to his house?

For all the enjoyment this guy gave us, we need to put all the Mojo power together one last time for him and knock his socks off.
. IN .... Like billboard idea

I'll participate

I am definitely in. I like the billboard idea. Gets our collective sentiments across, helps raise funds for JC's foundation and gets some exposure for this site. Works for me on all fronts, no need to over think this we are not curing cancer here....or maybe?

count me in 100%.. Love the billboard idea

If you're looking for big & brash, as Deep pointed out, a full page ad in a newspaper (or two or three) would probably cost about the same and have greater reach than a billboard. You can get decent bang for your buck these days with newspapers; I'm guessing we could negotiate a nice discount from rate card, particularly because we are not a corporate entity but a collection of individuals.

I do agree with Deep that there's an opportunity to do something a bit more creative -- and perhaps even longer-lasting -- though.

Just brainstorming here...
  • A crowd sourced statue of the man
  • A campaign orchestrated through social media that gets the crowd to pay homage at the first home game -- could potentially pair this with a giveaway of special commemorative t-shirts to blanket Gampel
  • Run a contest to find a JC impersonator -- winner gets season tickets but must lead cheers and -- if game situations warrant -- coach

If it is a billboard everyone really wants, I would suggest one intended on honoring him by driving donations to the Calhoun Cardiac Center or the cancer ride.

I could set up an easy to remember domain that could forward directly to the charities. Perhaps you could contact them to see if they'd set up a form on their sites for the donations.

I'm not sure how much they'd get, but I think he'd appreciate it more than just a billboard thanking him.

Another gesture I think he would really appreciate - shut the 'yard down every year on his birthday :-)
