The man on the far left of the screen shot is Bob Hurley, Sr, who has worked with Gandy as a coach. The man is in the Hall of Fame
Interesting that unlike other players where Geno usually focuses on a specific skills that he likes or how a she is performing during practice, he always just mentions "progress" regarding Gandy. There’s been some discussion and speculation tion on the Boneyard about Gandy throughout the season. The only thing that counts, though, is that Geno (as alluded to in the above post) has said at least a couple of times that he’s happy with her progress. I’m not reading anything into that, but it is the only actual information we have.
Really? How many inches did she grow?Gandy is going to be huge this season
Are there any inches to spare in this world?Really? How many inches did she grow?
You can never have enough inches, so I hope so.Are there any inches to spare in this world?
It looks like Gandy has most of themYou can never have enough inches, so I hope so.
Yeah, yeah, but the pictures are pretty cool...I expect Gandy to play very little this year. UCONN's best lineup was with Sarah at 5 and Blanca at 4. With the aboundance of guards in which some could back up and play some SF and Cheli can play backup PF, there is too much ahead of her. Hopefully she gets redshirt from last year. She'll have her chances her jr year if she shows growth in Practices.
UCONN remains a a major threat for a Nat'l Title and as a result they have 2 big centers and Sarah as the small center. There is to much ahead of her while the guards remain a combo of good/expereinced and skill.
Good article with some encouraging points, in particular Jana and Sarah commenting on how good she is as a rebounder, finishing better and learning from Sarah on blocking techniques. Also clarification on the possibility of getting a redshirt year with a rule change even if she wasn't injured.
This confirms what I've already thought: she will get Kiah Stokes minutes this season. Why? Because the skills the article focuses on are Kiah's skills. That means I expect ~10 minutes, 2-3 rebounds, 2-3 pts, and a block or two per game this season. Kiah's minutes eventually grew to 18, with 4 points, 7 rebounds and 3.8 blocks. If Gandy does that, I think Geno (and the rest of us) will be thrilled.
I liked this article, including the pictures in it. Her teammates are really, really encouraged by what we don't get to see, her performance in the practices.
No, it’s the daughter of Gandy’s mentor, Kieran Quinn, who is on the far right.OK, help me all you Obi-Wan Kenobi's, you are my only hope.
Who's the girl in the Navy shirt? Is it Morgan Cheli?
Jessica MooreHas there been another Uconn big who sat the bench their freshman year and then became a productive player?

She played a few minutes in a regular season game, and maybe in one scrim. It's been alluded that if/when the NCAA changes redshirt rule to be similar to football, that game wouldn't count against eligibility. We'll have to wait and see what happens this summer.Did she even use one of her 4 years? I don't this she appeared in any regular season games so is basically a red shirt year.
Sidney Quinn, who's family Gandy lived with after coming to Gill-St. Bernard's in New Jersey.OK, help me all you Obi-Wan Kenobi's, you are my only hope.

Gandy is an exciting unknown element for next year's team. You have cited the reasons to be hopeful. Reality is much more likely a tougher foe. A long wait is before us. Ugh.Gandy is an enigma in so many ways. Incredibly low playing time doesn't suggest a bright future, particularly combined with a HS rating that was not very high at least by Uconn norms. Two bigs that entered the portal played more than Gandy as well.
And yet Geno's comments about her seems like he is happy with her progress, and she doesn't appear to be frustrated with her lack of playing time. We all knew she was considered "raw" in terms of offensive skill development, but in her videos and international play it looked like at a minimum, she would be a good rebounder and defender, so not even getting mop up minutes at the end of blowouts was surprising.
I think Geno in the past has said something along the lines of if a player isn't making a significant contribution by their sophomore season it likely isn't happening. So Gandy remains a huge unknown, as much as when she entered school a year ago. Not pursuing a 4 or 5 type in the portal surprised me, but could mean he has great confidence in Olivia, Morgan and Gandy.
Morgan is more a 3 that can play the 4, and Olivia is a 5 that could certainly play the 4 offensively, but for Olivia to play some there, Geno needs to be happy with Jana and Gandy at the 5.
Anyway I think someone of Gandy's size and athletic ability that can rebound and defend and just make some put-backs, would seem to have a promising role on this team. The standard deviation on what she could be this year, appears to be higher than for any player in recent memory heading into their sophomore season. If I had been a fly on the wall witnessing practices all year long I would have a much better idea, but since that is largely a mystery, we will have to wait for this season to find out what Geno really has here.
If you mean that we, as fans who never see UConn's practices, don't have enough information to predict that Gandy will be "anything other than a project", you are right. But I don't read the previous posts as saying that she will be a star, or even that she will be relied on, only that she is an exciting unknown quantity.Projecting Gandy as anything other than a project is comical at this point. Jana needs to step up her performance for the 26/27 season. She will be needed and relied upon.
