The man on the far left of the screen shot is Bob Hurley, Sr, who has worked with Gandy as a coach. The man is in the Hall of Fame

Gandy is an enigma in so many ways. Incredibly low playing time doesn't suggest a bright future, particularly combined with a HS rating that was not very high at least by Uconn norms. Two bigs that entered the portal played more than Gandy as well.

And yet Geno's comments about her seems like he is happy with her progress, and she doesn't appear to be frustrated with her lack of playing time. We all knew she was considered "raw" in terms of offensive skill development, but in her videos and international play it looked like at a minimum, she would be a good rebounder and defender, so not even getting mop up minutes at the end of blowouts was surprising.

I think Geno in the past has said something along the lines of if a player isn't making a significant contribution by their sophomore season it likely isn't happening. So Gandy remains a huge unknown, as much as when she entered school a year ago. Not pursuing a 4 or 5 type in the portal surprised me, but could mean he has great confidence in Olivia, Morgan and Gandy.

Morgan is more a 3 that can play the 4, and Olivia is a 5 that could certainly play the 4 offensively, but for Olivia to play some there, Geno needs to be happy with Jana and Gandy at the 5.

Anyway I think someone of Gandy's size and athletic ability that can rebound and defend and just make some put-backs, would seem to have a promising role on this team. The standard deviation on what she could be this year, appears to be higher than for any player in recent memory heading into their sophomore season. If I had been a fly on the wall witnessing practices all year long I would have a much better idea, but since that is largely a mystery, we will have to wait for this season to find out what Geno really has here.
 
There’s been some discussion and speculation tion on the Boneyard about Gandy throughout the season. The only thing that counts, though, is that Geno (as alluded to in the above post) has said at least a couple of times that he’s happy with her progress. I’m not reading anything into that, but it is the only actual information we have.

Interesting that unlike other players where Geno usually focuses on a specific skills that he likes or how a she is performing during practice, he always just mentions "progress" regarding Gandy.
