Cam is right there for a 50/40/90 season which is extremely rare. Has any UConn player ever accomplished this before? I can't think of anyone.

Remarkably Karaban is right there as well but has a little more to do to achieve it.

It's crazy how efficient these guys are.

How are you gonna post this and not share his stats? Lol

It's 48.8% / 45.1% / 90.6%

And Alex is at 52.0% / 39.2% / 89.2%
Because I didn't feel like doing the math. Karaban's three point percentage went up slightly today but he missed 1 of his 2 ft's.

Haven’t posted in a long time, but I looked into this recently and Doron Sheffer was the only 50/40/80 player since 1992. In his freshman year ‘93-‘94 he shot 50.5%/40.7%/80.9%

So Spencer would be the first 50/40/90, and his usage (15.5 PPG vs 11.1 for Sheffer) separates him even if he falls a bit short of that. His shooting has been crazy this season.

Karaban is also remarkably close to 90% from the FT line and is now about 40% from 3. There is a chance that two players do so in one year on substantial volume. They are both ridiculous shooters.

I don't know why this isn't talked about nationally or even at the local level. It's unbelievable what they're doing, they're both so underrated.

It's way outside ststistical norms to have two college players on the same team that hit that mark.

I hate that it's FG/3FG/FT. It should be 2FG/3FG/FT. Shooting more 3s inherently brings down your FG% to less than 50, because nobody shoots 50% from 3 for a season on enough volume to qualify for making this stat.

It's an old benchmark--should be updated.

Someone needs to send this info to the UConn marketing dept so they can include this in notes to the broadcasters.

1 person achieving this goal is amazing. The fact that we have 2 guys on the precipice is nuts!!!

Bart Torvik’s site only lets you filter by 2-point %, not FG %. Cam is currently one of six players shooting at least 50% from 2, 40% from 3, and 90% on FT. Of those six, he has the second-highest usage rate and the most 3-point attempts.

If only these 2 drew more fouls.
I was remarking yesterday on how Karaban despite being such a good FT shooter and someone who gets a lot of points at the basket doesn’t draw more shooting fouls. I’ve always noticed he is so good at the jump hop to load into an attempt close at the rim after a drive or cut and wonder if this is the main reason. It’s incredibly impressive bc it is such a fundamental skill and feel like it allows him to convert these shots so well despite not having incredible athleticism but am still wondering if there’s something more to why he doesn’t get more fouls when he is shooting at the rim.

Yet two guys on the same team are pretty damn close, with another not too far behind. The carpenter building a dream house.

It's not talked about because they're buried behind 2 lottery picks and a guy with 3 triple-doubles.

There's only so many stories, and then somebody had to bring Diarra in the mix. And don't anybody look up about alley oops as a percentage of FGs for the guy who shoots 71% from the field.

All we gotta do is tighten up the defense, and solidify the 9-man rotation.

I’d argue the triple double stat has been lauded enough, we hear about it every game. Our 50/40/90 guys are more interesting than most of that stuff anyways.

Another point on the "90" portion of this -- who on our team are you going to foul at the end of a game when we're nursing a lead?

We're going to have Newton, Diarra, Castle, Spencer, and Karaban on the floor. Four of those guys are over 78%, Castle is at a respectable 72%.

And the buzz with the media is that there are no great teams this year due to parity. Wait until all the games start being played again on neutral courts. Hurley revenge tour part 2. But for now I'm just going to enjoy every game. The unselfishness of this team is something to behold. They are starting to polish things up and reduce turnovers as well.

Update:

Cam is currently 2 made baskets (1 if you use rounding rules) away from 50/40/90. Only 11 NCAA players have done it, and only 2 high major players in the last 15 years.

William and Mary kid is from my hometown. I coached him in baseball and he switched to basketball. He had an eye for coaching non-talent.
