50/40/90 Cam

Cam is right there for a 50/40/90 season which is extremely rare. Has any UConn player ever accomplished this before? I can't think of anyone.

Remarkably Karaban is right there as well but has a little more to do to achieve it.

It's crazy how efficient these guys are.

Because I didn't feel like doing the math. Karaban's three point percentage went up slightly today but he missed 1 of his 2 ft's.

So Spencer would be the first 50/40/90, and his usage (15.5 PPG vs 11.1 for Sheffer) separates him even if he falls a bit short of that. His shooting has been crazy this season.

Karaban is also remarkably close to 90% from the FT line and is now about 40% from 3. There is a chance that two players do so in one year on substantial volume. They are both ridiculous shooters.

Hassan Diarra is 50%, 38.2%, and 83.3% before today… he was 30%, 18.9%, and 51.4% last year. Wild improvement!

I hate that it's FG/3FG/FT. It should be 2FG/3FG/FT. Shooting more 3s inherently brings down your FG% to less than 50, because nobody shoots 50% from 3 for a season on enough volume to qualify for making this stat.

Bart Torvik’s site only lets you filter by 2-point %, not FG %. Cam is currently one of six players shooting at least 50% from 2, 40% from 3, and 90% on FT. Of those six, he has the second-highest usage rate and the most 3-point attempts.

I was remarking yesterday on how Karaban despite being such a good FT shooter and someone who gets a lot of points at the basket doesn’t draw more shooting fouls. I’ve always noticed he is so good at the jump hop to load into an attempt close at the rim after a drive or cut and wonder if this is the main reason. It’s incredibly impressive bc it is such a fundamental skill and feel like it allows him to convert these shots so well despite not having incredible athleticism but am still wondering if there’s something more to why he doesn’t get more fouls when he is shooting at the rim.

All we gotta do is tighten up the defense, and solidify the 9-man rotation.

I’d argue the triple double stat has been lauded enough, we hear about it every game. Our 50/40/90 guys are more interesting than most of that stuff anyways.

Another point on the "90" portion of this -- who on our team are you going to foul at the end of a game when we're nursing a lead?

We're going to have Newton, Diarra, Castle, Spencer, and Karaban on the floor. Four of those guys are over 78%, Castle is at a respectable 72%.

And the buzz with the media is that there are no great teams this year due to parity. Wait until all the games start being played again on neutral courts. Hurley revenge tour part 2. But for now I'm just going to enjoy every game. The unselfishness of this team is something to behold. They are starting to polish things up and reduce turnovers as well.

Cam is currently 2 made baskets (1 if you use rounding rules) away from 50/40/90. Only 11 NCAA players have done it, and only 2 high major players in the last 15 years.
