Following a 6-0 start to the 2020-21 season, interim head coach Kyra Elzy was given the job on a full-time basis Monday. Elzy had been
named interim coach in November after the retirement of Mathew Mitchell due to medical reasons.
"Kyra has earned and deserved the opportunity to lead this program into the future," Barnhart said in a news conference conducted via Zoom on Monday
Elzy signed a six-year contract worth $575,000 per year. That salary represents a significant savings for Kentucky, which was set to pay Mitchell, the program's career wins leader, $1.46 million this season before his retirement.
