Both teams shot similar % from 3 but they took 30 we took 15. My question is this, how is it possible for a low mid major to have better 3 point shooting than us? Jalen saved us tonight but shouldn’t he and Alterique be able to hit open 3’s? I mean the women can do it. Jalen and Alterique should have been on a mission this summer to become good at this. Vital I believe will come around because we’ve seem him do it, but the others? Jalen passes open 3’s to drive because he has no confidence in his shot. Strange.

Because if you’ve been watching college basketball you’d know thats how low majors survive. They are usually undersized teams that need something extra to contend, whether that be well designed traps or just a bunch of kids who just shot 3s.

Granted, there were a lot of missed open threes tonight. Vital in particular seems to be thinking a lot, and throwing himself out of shooting rhythm. Likely related to his visions of grandeur during the offseason with beating Ray Allen's 3-point record. Larrier has looked phenomenal from 3 the last two games. So smooth.

Ball. Movement.
Yes of course that;s their ticket to compete, move the ball for open 3’s. But we had open 3’s too even though our ball movement didn’t focus on it, and I single out Jalen and Gilbert because they are guards who have to be able to do this. We better practice.

Takeout Vital’s 1-6 and UConn shot 4-10 from three. Not too worried about Vital but needs to cut down on the bad threes early in shot clock. He just became our 4th guard as Anderson is now in the 3 guard lineup.

That's not how it works.
Thanks captain obvious. My point is it’s really Vitals struggles from three. Sure it part of the team but I’m not too worried because he’s streaky.

Scoring is going to be a problem for this team of they continue to jack up lazy threes and play too much isolation. Adams, Gilbert, and Vital are the prime violators. Adams got hot at the end obviously but you won't be able to rely on that against better teams.

Really like how our undersized bigs are banging down low. This team looks like it might be able to rebound.

Agreed. I like our inside. Rebounding, layups that actually go in rather than clanging on the rim or get blocked. For once we have a a lot of beef inside.

We don’t have a real three-point threat on the roster.

We have players who can make a three, but no one that would actually scare a defense.

I was watching the Florida game the other night and the Rice transfer Koulechov dropped a few bombs in the first half which just opened the lead up, that's a 3 point threat and one every team needs.

Vital when doing his regular thing does that for us.

If certain coddled children didn't leave the program, perhaps we'd have a 3 pt specialist right now.
Why would you expect someone to stay where they weren't wanted.

Exactly. Even the lower level p5s.

I am confident that Vital will start hitting shots.

In the meantime, Terry Larrier is shooting 83% from three. Hope he can keep that up lol

  • Adams has been ice cold in both the preseason and his first game from 3. I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes after his confidence boost from the end of the Stony Brook game.
  • Gilbert isn’t as bad as he’s been either, and seems to be finding his touch as well.
  • Vital is forcing it. He needs to get out of that “I’m a sniper” mentality and play within the flow of the game.
  • Polley and Anderson can hit open threes.
3 point shooting won’t be this team’s strong suit, but they will make more if they just take threes in rhythm. Our guards are way too comfortable draining the shot clock and settling for jumpers.

We saw how dynamic the offense was last night when Adams and Gilbert got shifty in their drives to the rim. Not only did we score more, but it opens up shots for spot up shooters, like when Adams kicked it out for a giant 3 from Polley.

We have more weapons than just the 3. I'm sure some of these low major schools recruit heavily on just 3 point shooters because alot of their offense will come from behind the arch. When you cant penetrate the lane and draw fouls and or convert layups or dunks, you just shoot threes. We should know that any of these types of teams only hope of beating us is from behind the three point arch. What bothers me is our lack of ability to defend their only weapon when we know before the game what they are going to do....

Either way, our quality of 3 point shots are poor. And the timing also adds pressure. When you get behind and your taking threes to catch up, I'm sure it plays alot more in the players head that they have to make this shot than when we are up or only down a point or 2. Its like making fts vs. making fts with the game on the line in the last minute... 2 different situations.
