Big kudos to Rajkowski and Dandeneau for keeping the Huskies in this game in the middle innings. If the two redshirt juniors can be reasonably effective in middle relief the rest of the way, that would take a ton of work and pressure off of Wallace and Poulin.

Hampered Huskies Battle to 7-6 Win

Notes:
  • Mike Woodworth recorded his fifth-straight multi-hit game with a two-hit outing on Saturday.
  • The Huskies are 6-0 this season following a series opening loss.
  • UConn is 6-3 in one-run games.
  • UConn is 8-3 this year when scoring in the first inning.

Updated standings. Just a bit competitive.

After today's games both Tulane (99) and Houston (98) are now currently in the RPI top 100. That makes 7 out of 9 AAC teams in the RPI top 100. In addition, UConn now has a 9-5 record against the RPI top 50. That's a nice little resume piece for the NCAA tourney.

Memphis is 1-11 in the AAC this season, so a few teams have been sweeping them.

UConn has typically handled business against the tigers the past few years. Beating them up again will pad our record nicely if we can do so.

Kersten on the mound today with all hands on deck to follow.

This could be interesting. If Kersten is on his game he could go a long way in this game. How long he stays in depends on his effectiveness, and on whether or not the coaching staff wants him to start a midweek game. If Chase Gardner is expected to come back next weekend, then there is less reason to have Kersten start a midweek game. I half think that UConn might want to give Colby Dunlop the Tuesday start at this point considering he didn't stay in long in yesterday's game.

Chris Jones says Feldstein still feeling a bit woozy, is not at the game today.

Top 1st, 2 out bases loaded walk for Winkel brings in a run for UConn. Fedko flies out to end the threat.

Lots of pitches so that's good. Too bad Thad's big hit went foul. Very smart at-bats all around.

UConn gets 1 across in the 1st, leaving bases loaded. We really gotta take advantage of those situations. In the plus side, Cinci’s stsrter threw mid 30 pitches in the 1st.

Bottom 1st, double play ball enables Kersten to face the minimum three batters. 1-0 UConn going to the top of the 2nd.
