2026 Transfer portal

Oh, that didn't come out nearly as well as I thought.
It was pretty well known the twins were being bid as a package during high school. So, they were greeted by Tennessee, but that experiment didn't work. So, I think the Pauldo brain trust will go back to work and try to work another arrangement out.
I personally think they'll want to stay together and might be best to play at a school that's having a rebuild. They're from northern NJ, so Penn State or Rutgers come to mind. But I could see them in Orange at Syracuse.
I hope Syracuse doesn't bite.

ok, Got it!! Thanks!

Very poor man, but I'd take her.
Is the "I" in your sentence Dawn Staley or Mark Campbell? I can see the latter, but my point was simply that living and dying by the portal year after year is a battle of constant attrition. He *had*to do it in years 1 and 2 but at some point I'd like to see him develop his own recruits because I actually think he has the potential to be a solid developmental coach as well.

.-.
Heads up, could be some NCAA action this spring

Pretty sure this would not hold up if challenged in court, in fact the transfer portal itself would not hold up in court.

Court has consistently ruled that a student/athlete should be treated as any other employee...and that all tuition paying/student fee paying students are eligible for teams.

Coaches do not have a transfer portal to change schools, hence players should be treated similarly.

Not that I like it, it's just the way decisions are made.

So far no player has challenged the portal in court, players actually like it, it's fun.

Heavy emphasis on yet. While the names have been pouring in, we have a long way to go to get the usual 1100 or 1200 or so.
Might be tailing off a little as the covid year is pretty well used up so the 5th year players will not be around.

I really don't think that's it. It was Pandora's box and that thing ain't getting closed now that it's open. Just look at how much activity we've already had when players can't even officially enter the portal yet.

This penalty is to schools, not players, and no student or player has any right to expect anything from a school she is not enrolled at. NCAA can and does enforce all sorts of rules on schools and coaches.

Oh it is going to continue to be wild west - just mean the total players who have available eligibility is reduced by close to 25% now that we are mostly beyond 5 year eligibility. Still a few injury folks like here at Uconn, but that is not anywhere near the whole of the 4 classes in school in 2021.

Player will enroll at new school. Walk to gym and ask to play. If denied, they will sue to play in local State Court.

Court will issue injunction allowing "student at school to try out for team at that school", while actual court case grinds thru the system.

This rule, and portal in general, sets up an artificial barrier for student/athlete/employees to change jobs and/or compete in athletics for their school.

I'd prefer the old system too, but NCAA has not won a court case in about 20 years.

I get your point. The majority of the extra covid year eligible players were gone after last season, and there was still the 1000+ names in the portal. There were a few still this year, but already the bulk of them had moved through. We'll see what this off season ends up looking like.

Unless it's an April fools joke UConn will almost certainly pursue her. Amazing shooter.

Major surprise, going to be the most sought after guard in the portal. She was the player on Azzi in the Sweet Sixteen game and really impressed me with her energy on defense. She shot 41% from 3pt on 72/172 attempts.

Defender ✅
Shooter ✅

Replace a Virginia star with another Virginia star?

Yes to both. SCar needs a ball handler for the rotation

We could also use another shooter.

Who doesn't need a shooter. Very interested to see where she ends up. I'm just stunned honestly, of all transfers so far. UNC was building a good young core, and have some good recruits coming in.

Grant is a SG

I'd love to see a system that rewards players that aren't changing schools every year.
Maybe every transfer counts as 1.5 scholarships against the limit on the team you transfer to.
2nd transfer, you now count as 2 scholarships.
Halfway not serious, but maybe a little bit serious....LOL

She needs to talk to Pao Pao. Combo guard with range and defense is perfect fit! We got about 25 minutes a night for her.
Her defense is...not good, IMO. Banghart did a great job of hiding her enough on nonscorers for UNC to win the games they should win, but she was a liability against better teams (or teams that had guards who could break her down).

I honestly don't think she can start in the SEC and I'm not sure how much she'd play for SEC contenders. TCU seems more of her speed if she wants to have a chance at starting.

Pretty bummed about this. I wanted to see her and Aarnisalo in the backcourt for the next 2 years.
No room for them when Harpring projects to be better than both.

Also, there's two sides of the ball.

Is Grant a PG? If Harpring is as advertised, UNC has a showrunner from day one
I'm not sure. Just thought that Grant and Aarnisalo were a nice pair of soph guards.
