2026 schedule and search for 12th game

Hot take: I'd rather play Jacksonville State than USM. Southern Miss won 7 games last year but they've been horrible before that. There's really not much to gain from that game other than a bad road loss. It's not like FIU where it's a destination game. I wouldn't be 100% shocked to see Jax State in that Sun Belt title game again.
FWIW, Jacksonville State’s not even in the Sun Belt. If UConn was to schedule a CUSA opponent, FIU might have been helpful for recruiting purposes in FL, and convenience for SE player’s’ families, alumni and other Huskies’ fans. Inconveniently, it appears that wasn’t possible to work out.

JSU’s located in a run down crap hole of a town and a CUSA school. Other than being under 2 hours from Atlanta, so direct flights to ATL, few if any truly compelling reasons exist to visit Jacksonville for fans. Even for Civil War history buffs, far more interesting locations exist. Luckily, the 12th game’s not in Jacksonville.

On principle, I agree with you. Transparency for any government agency is crucial, whether it's the Department of Corrections or the Department of Engineering. This is just a very weird instance to want to make that point, in my opinion.

It's clearly going to get released way ahead of the time anyone would realistically need to do anything with the information, and there's no preexisting government-stated deadline for the release...
Agree with all of that. As I keep saying, this is not really a football point. It’s a government point that has happened to come up in a football context.

Why do I get the sense that BizLaw is gonna be the first guy to ever file a Freedom Of Information Act request to find out a football game location...
We never heard how the class action suit over the Blue Lot was coming. Maybe this would just be another case of BLACO.

Yes, it's a hole and Hattiesburg is a little closer to New Orleans than Jacksonville is to Atlanta but if you are considering a road game, Colorado Springs or Laramie would be far more scenic and interesting places to visit anyway, especially for outdoor stuff. Colorado Springs area is amazing, plus plenty of military history being a service academy (even if a more recent one).

It says a lot more for UConn's schedule that they add a third team that played in a G6 conference title game last year than a Southern Miss program that hasn't finished a regular season above .500 before last year since 2017 and the only thing they had going for them was a coach who left for Memphis. Jacksonville St actually seems to care about football still and has won 9 games all three years in FBS. I also think of it this way; a loss at Jacksonville State is going to age a lot better than a loss to Southern Miss.

I mean, the situation sucks anyway. I'd rather lose a buy game to be honest. Duke screwed us because they could have kept the extra OOC game - the ACC didn't force them to drop it. They just didn't want to lose to us again lol

So, getting this straight...

1) It's not a government point
2) You have no way of knowing if a contract is signed (and I would guess it's not, else there is no reason to hold this back)

Either one of these 2 kills your argument. 1 is certain, the 2nd is likely.

Did someone swipe your login? This sounds like a hill to die on, which reminds everyone of 1 poster...

You’re reading my posts way too technically. I have no clue if it is technically a FOIA violation. But as someone who was around the General Assembly when the bill was passed, I have a problem when a governmental agency gives information to those who pay for it ahead of making it available to all.

That’s it. I’m not dying on this hill because the instant situation isn’t important enough. But do I think it’s right? No. If you do, that’s fine.

I agree this has gotten crazy. I’m sure we are speaking/negotiating with somebody about a 12th game but that could well require us or them or both to make other adjustment, too. I think that is pretty typical.

A lot of people know. But no one is allowed to say.

Things are stupid at the moment.
I posted that I'd rather see them play Jax St than Southern Miss - no inside information - just as a topic for debate (pros and cons with either).

I really like that all our most challenging games are at home. Not writing off any of the road opponents of course, but it’s manageable and sets us up for success

A home-and-home agreement with a future game at The Rent is a positive. Not exactly an away game in a likely UConn recruiting target area nor close to many players’ families, alumni nor other Huskies’ fans, and definitely not The Grove, but not quite as stark a destination as Starkville. /s
After implicitly hinting 2026’s likely 12th opponent last Tuesday, some interesting CT FOIA banter regarding the game and LAX parking, unrelated discussions regarding CUSA member Jacksonville State never in the running, etc, finally UConn’s SBC 9/19/26 home and 11/3/29 away opponent’s been directly confirmed by a State of Mississippi public records request. /s

Good to schedule the 9/19 date, thus enabling a 10/17 mid-season bye week. Should the schools match up in 2029, early November may be a tad bit less comfortable than mid-Sept in Hattiesburg.

Solid USM fan base, decent SBC attendance, 2 new head coaches in consecutive seasons, and Brett Favre’s not suiting up for the Golden Eagles.

Nice. Southern Miss is 2 hours and 7 minute drive from New Orleans.

If considering going to the USM game from the northeast, direct flights to New Orleans MSY make the most sense from LGA and EWR. Connecting to MSY or any other relatively proximate destination airports from BDL and BOS.

Flying from the northeast to alternative airports to get to Hattiesburg, Jackson JAN, Mobile MOB, Gulfport/Biloxi GPT, or the nearest tiny airport Hattiesburg/ Laurel PIP all require at least 1 connecting flight,e.g., via ATL, CLT.
