2026 Masters Thread

I've had two eagles. One was a very short par 5 that I barely got on in two and rolled in a no-brainer putt, probably 60 ft. The other one was another par 5 that I chipped in from about 90 yds out in the fairway. Both totally lucky.
Used to get eagles in law school on a short course in Lawrence that had a downhill Par 4 on #1 we could drive in one. I could only roll it on, but my roommate (college golfer) could fly it. I looked it up, it was 327 from the blues. Surprised it's still there and hasn't been turned into a subdivision.

I miss the distance I once had in my youth.

Cam Young played Rory shot for shot, but fell apart on the greens in the back 9 by not being able to make a birdie putt for 8 of the last 9 holes. He makes 3 of them he wins by 1. Rory should go to church and light a candle in Thanksgiving. I know, "If my aunt had balls...."

If by "playing Rory shot for shot" you meant hitting it into the woods multiple times where the ball bounced off a tree and landed perfectly in the fairway, then sure, he "played Rory shot for shot". Dude had a horseshoe up his ass and still couldn't win.

Also, this thread has gone way downhill ever since uconngb stopped being an absurd disaster.

The guys chasing Rory all choked at some point down the stretch. Exception being Scheffler, but he dug too deep a hole the first 2 days to mount the full comeback. That putt on...17 (?) where he missed it by 1/2 inch must be haunting him.

Also, big fat F to CBS' coverage, especially the last hole. They didn't even show where Rory's 2nd shot landed on 18, and then his tap-in to win it you couldn't even see the ball go in the cup.

The beauty of golf in some ways, are those shots. At 17 playing Manchester CC, I was in deep grass 20 yards behind a green next to a pond. Elevated green couldn't see a flag. Hit it, ran up the hill just in time to see it roll into the cup.

Eagles are fun. My favorite was 3 inches from being a double eagle. Sadly I'm too old now, just don't have the distance to get up in two on par 5s very often.

Manchester CC is such a great course. Pricey post-Covid it's gotta be one of the best public courses in the state

Would enjoy sitting down with Ted Scott and talk about his favorite shots for Bubba(15 yrs) and Scottie(5ish) .Two of the most creative shot makers in the game. On the bag for 4 Masters titles and counting

All I know is that when I was 16 I could play most of the summer for like $50 of something. This was 1982 of course, but they had a great deal for young golfers on weekdays.

Parents joined Hopmeadow when we moved to Simsbury, nice but too damned hilly.

Simsbury Farms one of the best values for public courses in Hartford County.

Rory had several simiiar tree shots and luck outs with clear avenues from within the trees. They pretty much evened out on those.

I've had one 200 yd drive into the wind then a 174 yd 3 rescue worm burner that rolled all the way to the cup blind! I was looking all over for the ball when someone suggested looking in the cup!

I didn't start golfing until I was 19. I had hit golf balls around the yard and at driving ranges. I only had an idea of how far I drove it from what my brother had told me at the range. My first time out I with two friends and a friend of theirs who was a loud mouth know it all. He asked how far I thought I could drive it. I said I think around 290. He started laughing and lecturing me on how far the average drive on tour is.
On the first tee, I topped my first drive and hit it into a brook a few dozen feet in front of the tee. I teed up again and launched one down the center of the fairway. I didn't say anything. The starter came over and said "Your right, that's no 290 yards. Your friend just drove it closer to 300 or 305, uphill. I just smiled. Granted, I gave up hitting driver after that driver (which was a relic given to me from my dad) exploded on impact on a shot on a par 5. I just hit 3W after that off the tee.

Pretty sure 18 walking is over 50$ now for one day lol

Best deal for kids now is Youth on Course. Not all courses have it but it's usually 5$. Usually there's some stipulation like only after 1pm on weekends or something

I think in the area Tallwood, Blackledge, East Hartford, Keney and Goodwin have it.

So if he did not fall apart, he might have won.

Thank you for this valuable insight.

Rory did a great job on Saturday by not pulling anway and letting up to 7-8 guys right in it for an epic Sunday. Unfortunately the 7-8 guys didn’t get the email that they had a chance and all gagged. The only one who got the email was 12 back going in on Saturday and found his way to a couple million bucks by pulling into 2nd. Henley also made a great run further behind and missed a couple putts he could’ve made as well.

I mean this should have been one for the ages but Young, Burns, Rose, Reed, Day and a few others crapped themselves. Thank you Scottie for making him make a bogey on 18!

Henley really kind of blew it missing short putts that would have pressured Rory. Rose simply couldn't find the fairway for a bit and dropped too many.
