2025 WNBA Regular Season

The remainder of the dog days of July will certainly be interesting for the Mercury. Wednesday they host the Dream before spending the remainder of the month on the road. As their Stars return from IR it will be interesting to see how Nate navigates the string of road games that begin in New York. As the presumptive COY I would expect it'll be a seamless integration and perhaps Phoenix will win out in July

@Dillon77, if true your persistence paid off ;) :D

And she automatically gets any of Sabally's minutes plus Gardner's, plus some of Jones and Stewie. Probably a rotation most nights of only 8 players. Probably Stewie, Fiebich, Jones, Cloud, Ionescu start, Burke, Messeman, Johannes off the bench. With Messeman you have 4 players who could go for 30 on any night.

She doesn't need it but if she gets another ring she's a hall of famer. Happy for her. Was hoping she signed with Phoenix or Vegas cuz of fit, but this makes the liberty really tough.
If the Liberty can adjust to Emma and vice versa, the Liberty is going to be a problem. Emma's game is so diverse that she is a lethal weapon out there. Nice addition, New York.

She has already played under Sandy, and with Stewie and Jones overseas and won European Championships. This is a seamless fit, and already having played with each other they know each other's strengths and weaknesses.
They will win a lot of games, and won't have to play a lot of minutes going into the end of the year.

We shall see. Everyone said the same thing about LeBron, D-Wade, and Chris Bosh when they joined forces. It took a year before they put it all together. The Phoenix Mercury and the addition of Tina Charles with BG, Sky, and D. There is an adjustment phase. Players understanding and adjusting to their roles. It happens.

Gonna lean with @baggerbob a bit more here: As noted, the principals -- Emma M., Stewie and Jonquel -- have extensive experience with each other in Euro competitions at the highest levels. They know how to mesh together. In fact, one of the aspects I love most about Emma is her ability to be a versatile cog in any team's attack at multiple points. As @cancontent noted, it's one reason why I thought this fit made way too much sense in (way) previous posts. The only person missing from the Euro connection is K-Mac, who fits like a glove with Emma. Oh, right, she's on the Lynix ;).

That said, I like the zeitgeist of the Lynx and believe that Shep's minutes can be upgraded against taller teams like the Liberty with little to no loss in their chemistry. We'll see...

OK, back to the beach...will resurface on a regular basis in August. Cheers!

I really believe you are going to see some wonderful basketball out of the Liberty in the next couple of months. Between those 3 and Cloud, Sabrina and Johannes they have the ability to do things as a team that no one has ever seen.

So who gets moved off the roster to make room for her? They have now signed Talbot and that puts them already at 12.

Marquiesha Davis was cut a couple days ago I recall. Not sure who else this week.

Ummmm, okay. How should one interpret this with this being Roberts' first season?

Trammel spent four years as an assistant with the Sparks.
Before that, she was an assistant in San Antonio, where she coached Dearica Hamby and Kelsey Plum.
She was known as a defensive-focused assistant.

She was hired as a Special Assistant to Head Coach Lynne Roberts.

Los Angeles is the second worst defensive team in terms of shots between 0 and 5 feet, allowing opponents to shoot over 63 percent (and on 24 attempts per game). They are also second worst in terms of shots between 15 and 19 feet, allowing 46.5 percent from that range. They are third worst in defensive rating.

Given the team is only two games behind the eighth playoff spot and expect Cameron Brink to return, it certainly cannot hurt to add a defensive-minded voice to the huddle.

I'm not sure that is enough since they had 12 players listed tonight in the box score even without Davis.
They don't need Sherrod as a 4th guard. Cloud, Sabrina, Johannes will take up 80 minutes most nights. Then Gardner is listed as a guard, actually can be shooting guard or small forward. Fiebich guards the shooting guards so they have no need for Sherrod.

You're probably right. Its unfortunate for her and yet again another roster size issue....

Annie Costabile with interesting insight as to how the Liberty were able to sign Messeman.

"That desire to win multiple titles influenced the Liberty’s top players’ decision to sign team friendly contracts over the years. Not a single player on the Liberty roster is signed to a supermax deal, which has given Kolb more cap space to work with. Additionally, the Liberty lost Kayla Thornton to the Valkyries in the expansion draft, freeing up $110,000 in cap space. Kolb also suspended forward Betnijah Laney’s contract, valued at $180,000, after she had surgery for a knee injury she sustained as a relief player for Unrivaled.

After signing forward Stephanie Talbot on Monday the Liberty have about $120,000 in cap space. Meesseman’s contract will be prorated based on when she actually signs with the Liberty".
