Maybe, but the level of concern for the Liberty's recent play is kind of high these days as opposed to the Lynx (though, obviously, Phee is much more concerned with her team's success (to me) than in the possibility of an MVP for herself.

If Sparks win the H2H they will be 1 win behind and would need (given the same results for first 5 games):
Fever to lose to Golden State OR
Sparks win at least one vs Phoenix (0-2 with 2 games to play) OR Atlanta (0-1 with 2 games to play).

If Sparks lose the H2H they will be 3 wins behind and face an almost impossible task.

Even with the injury concerns I would rather be the Fever than Sparks.

Thanks for breaking this down. I guess I was wrong about SOS, but I do think LA has a better shot to make playoffs, especially since they won the tiebreaker.

Indiana has lost 6 of their last 8 (with only wins over Chicago/Connecticut) where LA has won 11 of their last 15.

I was making my own prognostications off of the provided lists. Yes, I am aware that would put the Fever one game ahead. I don't see the Fever making the playoffs in any tiebreaker scenarios over the Valkyrie or Sparks... whether that be a 2- or 3- way tie.

A great reflection of perseverance, maturity, and of course coaching. Like Sandy Brondello, Becky faces skepticism from some members of the BY

There is a reason that both have won multiple championships.

As we approach the end of the regular season it'll be interesting to see where the million dollar coach stands in relation to these two as well as in my book the COY from Atlanta
 
Stewie w/ a bit more rust than her pal Napheesa, 4-12 shooting in her return. But there was no rust on the Stewie friendly whistle, 13 FT attempts in the game. That's one way to score points when your shot isn't falling. Lib eek out a 2 point win over the Sun.

Wow, Stewie shot 1 less FT than the entire Sun team.

Is Brondello doing load management? Ionescu missed last game, back tonight. Cloud missed this one.

Cloud took a hit to the nose in their previous game. Was listed as a game time decision for tonight but that got downgraded.

Tough night for teams you would think were favored to win by quite a bit. Aces survive a somewhat sub par night from A'ja and get a narrow win over the Sky.
 
Wow. Ariel Atkins goes off for 30 on 10-18 shooting from the field and 7-7 from the line, but not enough to keep Las Vegas from winning their 11th straight, 79-74. Jackie Young leads Vegas with 22 on 9-14 overall shooting (4-6 from three) and 7 assists.

Not to mention Reese and Cardoso both had double doubles. Plenty went right for Chicago...but unfortunately they didn't get much in the way of contributions outside of those 3, including the 2 other starters.
 
Does anyone else think it's kinda weird that Chicago retired Candace Parker's jersey? Yes she helped them win a Title...but she only played 2 seasons with them. Huh?

Okay, here's a weird thing i noticed recently. Chelsea Gray has now been with Vegas for as long as she was with LA. That just doesn't seem possible to me.
 
IF the Aces win their next two (at Atlanta, vs Minnesota), they could and maybe even should enter the postseason as the betting favorite. Would have to be a first for a team 6 games out of 1st.

Kind of, but I figured part of the reason behind it was because she's a Chicago native. She did accomplish her goal of helping them win their first title too.

I misread this as Aerial Powers goes off for 30 on 10-19 shooting from the field and 7-7 from the line, and I thought, "Man, if she can keep that up, she and Kelsey Mitchell are going to be a dangerous combo for the Fever!" (Did I mention I didn't get much sleep last night?) ;)

People (myself included) were straight up dragging Coach Hammon and the team leading up to the All-Star break, so I think that is enough evidence to point to yes. People were saying that Hammon lost her talented assistant coaches and is now exposed as a fraud ... the Aces need to retain A'ja and Jackie and start over next season ... Loyd is past her prime and was a bad trade ... etc.

I'm still dragging her. Vegas has had the easiest schedule since the all-star break. And Wilson has been carrying the team for the most part. I don't think they are any better than they were before the all-star break

An 11 game winning streak, including over 3 of the top 5 teams in the league (NY, Atlanta and Phoenix X2) and you don't think they are any better than when they were hovering around .500? Okay, that's a hot take.
 
Speaking of hot takes the million dollar coach jumps on a plane and takes his squad to the City of Angels in what maybe the most impactful game of the remainder of the season.

As Kelsey Plum attempts to lead her squad into the playoffs against increasing odds the million dollar coach has seen (led?) the Merc drop out of the coveted hosting position in the playoffs.

I know that there are some who are skeptical of the coaching abilities of two-time champions Becky Harmon and Sandy Brondello.

I'm wondering when that skepticism shifts to a more appropriate target as Nate holding one of the 13 rare coaching slots in the W tries to take the Merc to the promised land. A promised land that Sandy did take the Merc to in the past.

I know Kelsey is really anticipating this match and I think AT will have an opportunity to burnish her MVP credentials. The race between AT and Wilson may be one of the most highly debated and closest in recent memory.

In any event I'll be watching tonight at 7:00 p.m. as the Merc "coach" attempts to do something very difficult.

If you're a Fever fan or part of their front office, do you even want to make the playoffs at this point? You have proof of concept - a Commissioner's Cup and a team that managed to hover around 5th through the first wave of injuries. Even if CC comes back, you no longer have a title contender this year.

Wouldn't it be better to slip out of the playoffs and hope you get lucky in the lottery? You likely will not have another shot at a draft pick this high for a while.

Presuming CC returns at an All Star level, next year you have one of the best young perimeter players and one of the best young posts plus a lottery pick to build around.
 
I think there’s still a pretty vast separation between Aces and Lynx so the win streak is unlikely to get to 13, but if I’m not mistaken 11 straight wins is the longest in the league this season. The pre-August version of the Aces could have played only the Sun and Wings and wouldn’t have gone 11-0. Not really a question they’re a much improved team at this point.

GPT says it's the 7th longest single season win streak in league history. It's definitely the longest of the season.

"It's not that impressive because SOS" just doesn't apply to pro sports.

Of the other six, four won a championship, one lost the finals in 5, and the other is 2021 Connecticut.

Nah. Not odd/weird at all. Each franchise can honor their former/current players however they want.

Absolutely. Very thoughtful and very savvy on the marketing side of things as well. Also, I like the fact that Chicago didn't wait 10, 20, 30 years to honor CP. Some franchise either forget some of their legends or just don't care about their legends. Chicago, for whatever reason, was like "We are honoring CP3 on this day" Done. Pretty cool honor.
 
Okay, they better retire Delle Donne and Fowles jerseys then, both accomplished much more for a longer period of time in Chicago than Parker did. Quigley was their first ever jersey retirement, earlier this year. Also Copper and Sloot better get their numbers in the rafters too. Everybody always says they wouldn't have won the Title without Candace, but she was the third best player on the team during their playoff run. Copper and Sloot were both phenomenal.
 
Close for a while, then Indiana ran away from Seattle.
 
You would think with the roster that Seattle has (all stars, Olympians), plus with the addition of Sykes, that they would be a top 4 team. Instead they are barely hanging on for a playoff spot. Never been a fan of Quinn as a coach, and maybe the finger needs to be pointed at her. She seems to be doing less with more than any other coach in the league.

Holy smokes!! If Indiana plays like this when they get Caitlin Clark back...OMG!! We know there is going to be some slippage but when you can get three players scoring 20 plus points. You got a recipe for success.
 
Some teams are just kryptonite to others and I think Indiana is Seattle's kryptonite this season. Seattle doesn't seem to handle physical post play all that well. I've noticed that Nneka shies away from it and Magbegor and Malonga are not built for it.

I have always been a fan of Coach Quinn, player and coach. But I think Seattle, with the roster that they have, it might be time for a new voice as coach. I thought coming into this season, based on their exit interviews last season, the core players would be motivated to play as One Unit and ball out. This season watching this team has been a struggle. It is on the players and coach. Could they turn it on in the playoffs? Of course. Will they? Who knows. The players control the outcome.
 
You heard it here first--LA isn't making the playoffs. While much improved from early in the season, they just can't get the absolute must wins. Phoenix has been steadily pulling away from them tonight.

Here's a weird stat--they are better on the road than at home. 10-7 vs. 7-10 (heading towards 7-11). Nice to get some wins away, but does you no good if you can't defend home court.
 
When I looked earlier AT had modest stats. She finished w/ ANOTHER triple double. 16 rebounds and 15 assists, come on now that is ridiculous. If she was a more consistent scoring threat she might be in the conversation for best ever. 19 for Sabally, 18 for Copper, 17 for Whitcomb who outshot her UW alum counterpart (5-7 behind the arc compared to 2-7).

25 for Hamby, 21 for Jackson, 20 for Plum but it wasn't enough. They could've gained a game on Seattle...but didn't get it done. Also lost a game on Indiana. Like I said, they aren't gonna finish the season in the top 8. Stevens is kinda disappearing lately, under double figure scoring in 4 of the last 7 games. Also I'm glad she was able to come back, but this is pretty much a lost season for Brink. Hopefully she can come into next year ready to go and be more impactful.

AT was smooth with her Triple Double approach. She got rebounds and assist first and then went into attack mode on her scoring. Well done, AT!!
 
I'm getting a headache just trying to figure out who will be MVP and which teams will make the playoffs.
