2025 WNBA Regular Season

Howard and Cunningham have both been playing very well recently for Indiana. Will Clark ever get her shot back?
 
Maybe LA is finally getting out of their own way. Close call against Connecticut the other day, tonight they are blowing the doors off Washington. I'm officially going to stop calling them the 2nd worst team in the league, because they have jumped past Dallas and Chicago in the standings.

A few minutes left, but Hamby, Jackson and Plum all have 20 or more, 15 for Stevens. Allemand hasn't been scoring much but she's dishing the ball since returning from EuroCup. 10 assists tonight.
 
Sparks blitzed the Mystics 33-12 in Q2. Washington trimmed a little off the deficit in 2nd half but LA cruises to a 99-80 win.

I KNEW they had too much talent to be playing as poorly as they have most of the season.

Clark is having an off year because of all the injuries. FYI she had to leave the game last night with like 40 seconds left because she might have re-aggravated her recent groin injury. She was clearly in pain and grabbing her right leg around the groin area.

Aari McDonald also only played 10 minutes last night. I don't know what was up with that, as they didn't act like she was injured so my only assumption is that they were wanting her fresh for tonight's game and/or her performance on the court was less than stellar against the Sun.

And for the record, head coaches SHOULD be paid a lot of $ in the W - draw the best talent you can regardless of sex or race.

Allen, Taylor, Sutton, Mack and Billings got the most minutes off the bench. A pretty solid roster overall, but to judge a HC solely based on his first/second season with the inherited roster, and in this case, a new one for 2025...

I think Tibbets is an awesome coach and IMO, should be COY. That roster is almost never fully healthy and Phoenix is still one of the best three teams in the league.

Or, she is a short guard who isn't that good offensively and in close games, she is a liability. People thinking McDonald is some sort of savior is so wild to me. She keeps getting cut by every team she's on.

She provided Indy some stability at the guard position over Colson when they needed it. I don't see her as a saviour, but she's made decent contributions to this team since joining.
 
The first game of today's five-game slate prior to the all-star break shows the importance of key starters in general and Reese and Akins for Chicago in particular.

As to the most underrated player in the league question posted in an earlier thread it's most definitely not Maya Caldwell.

Watching the rim clanking in Chicago (not clear that the Sky will break 20 in the first half) I do have to say I'm looking forward to the Marquee match this afternoon as the BY odds on Coach of the Year takes his Mercury into Minnesota.

The conversations about various year end awards are always fun during the all-star hiatus.

The emerging consensus for COY on the board is interesting particularly given the huge number of new head coaches in the league well as the performance of the team in Minnesota who if I recall had their star sideline for a brief time.

POY and ROY frontrunners are Husky alumni.
 
Some thoughts as we approach tip off in Minneapolis.

The BY presumptive COY has an opportunity to burnish his credentials

His Merc are a 10 point underdog.

Winning on the road is hard.

He has a roster limited by injury.

His facing four times COY and four-time world champion Cheryl Reeve

A win today would certainly support strong consideration for the second year coach as COY

Okay - is it me or does the broadcast for this Minnesota - Phoenix game give flashbacks to the days when Fox did the "follow the puck" technology? Haven't seen a broadcast where the game follows the ball like I'm seeing today with other teams.
 
Grace Berger is an excellent pickup for the Wings. Oddly, this team could be the perfect place for her -- a big guard with a tremendous mid-range game.

I enjoyed this broadcast. Both the announcers did an excellent job. As the game got out of hand they referenced a player survey by the Athletic asking who was the biggest trash talker in the league.

I enjoyed the post game interview with k mac. She really had a great smile and it was a delight to hear that she had been named to the All-Star roste.

Since the retirement of one of the all-time great trash talkers - DT - the metal has been passed to another Merc player followed closely by Courtney Williams.

The presumptive COY was challenged with his short roster having to give 26 minutes to Laska. The Latvian is making a serious run for the Kia Stokes award as she is 8 for 38 in her last six games in racking some very Stokes-like statistics on the offensive end.

So the odds makers were on point with this game. Thinking about it from a value point of view the $1 million coach goes on the road and is unable to do something hard. The $600,000 coach is able to defend her home court.

Kitija Laksa can't guard a tree. How she's able to get minutes from a contender is beyond me.

I can't believe it was as close as it was - Phx played without Sabally, Copper, Held AND Makani... What was going on with those guys? All injured??

Have no issues with the coverage. The FanDuel feature caught me off guard and reminded me of the NHL on Fox days. ;)

I’m gonna disagree. The wings do not need another guard. The need some size and a 3 point threat.

I don’t disagree. I was only thinking that Grace could do well in Dallas, not that Dallas solves all their problems with her. As for 3-point threats, they have 2 of those in Paige and Maddie. Another one would be nice, and if they still had a relationship with Lou Lopez Senechal, they’d have a third.

The problem of the big remains elusive. Yueru is big and can score in the paint, but is too slow which makes her a defensive liability. Who else they got?

Groin injuries are tough to heal when one's playing. I had one in high school that lingered off and on throughout the year because I was involved in different sports.

Per the broadcasters of tonight's game, it sounds like this is a day-to-day situation per Coach White. That's encouraging.
