That Sky/Sun game was wild! Congrats to Angel Reese on her earning a triple double. Hailey Van Lith getting some serious minutes and looking good in those minutes. Well done, Chicago!! Connecticut played well but like a few other teams in that bottom section, just a little more work to put it all together. Hats off to both teams.
 
Aces with a midget lineup today. Stokes w/ Gray, Young, Loyd and Mitchell.
 


Random story I tripped across on IG but thought others may enjoy it. Good on this guy to challenge himself through the role of a practice player for the Storm.
 
I know Phee is the clear leader right now but I think it's time Allisha Gray enters the WNBA MVP conversation.
Averages on the year:
21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, nearly a 3:1 A/TO ratio, 51.4% FG, 41.8% 3pt, 80.9% FT. Team is 3rd in the league at 8-3.

At this point I'd probably rank the top 5 as:
1. Napheesa Collier
2. Allisha Gray
3. Breanna Stewart
4. A'ja Wilson
5. Satou Sabally

Keep an eye on Caitlin Clark though as she's healthy again
 
Aces are finding life is difficult without Wilson. Just dropped a home game to Phoenix 76-70

Good news for Aces is maybe Loyd is finally finding her game. Bad news is they probably aren't going to win many games until Wilson comes back.

Whitcomb w/ 18 off the bench for the Merc today, Sabally led them w/ 22.

If Kariata Diaby is going to be the chief sub in the frontcourt for the Sun, I'd be a worried: she's just not at the level needed. Why didn't Morrow or Peters play today? Rivers? She, along with Sheldon, could've stopped Hailey Van Lith's cross-over bursts.

Good win for Chitown while Connecticut....whew, this could be a long season unless some cohesion and/or new approaches come together....fast.

Connecticut has one thing going for them Dallas might be one of the worst teams ever in the league.
No wonder Sabally and Howard ran out the door as fast as they could.
 
There is a three-way tie for first in the Eastern Conference for Commissioner's Cup conference winner between Atlanta, New York and Indiana. Atlanta and New York play each other on Tuesday in what will be an elimination game. What each team will need to happen to go to the championship game:

Atlanta: Beat New York.

Indiana: Beat Connecticut and New York beats Atlanta.

New York: Beat Atlanta and an Indiana loss to Connecticut.

I highly doubt Indiana loses a second game to Connecticut, especially now that Clark is back from injury, leaving it very unlikely that New York will make it to the Commissioner's Cup finals.

Four years is enough data to start superstitions but not enough for statistical analysis. :p

Playing the most likely scenario, I would bet it will be the Fever vs the Lynx for the cup.

Technically the Lynx need to beat the Aces to be in the cup championship too. If the Aces are still without Wilson on Tuesday, I don't think they'll be able to contain Collier for four quarters. If they lose then I don't even want to untangle that mess, as there could be a four way tie with two losses each. I guess it would come down to point differential in that scenario (where the Lynx have a comfortable lead with a +63 -- the next best is the Storm with a +17.)

I admit to not knowing anything about the Cup’s process. I guess I could look it up, but lazily I’ll turn to you. What is the criteria that seemingly gives the Liberty the most difficult path of the three?

You refer to conference standings, but the Liberty has at least a two game lead on the other two in regards to their conference records alone. What are the additional caveats?

No he's not. However, it doesn't take away the fact that some of the insanity from last season was caused by the hyperbole his colleagues heaped onto her because it would gain clicks.

Has she given the league a huge leg up? Hell yes. But did he and his media colleagues help the situation with some really cringe worthy takes that continue to this day? Hell no.
 
Watched that Chicago/Connecticut game and that one part of the game where it got a little testy between Angel and Bria. Angel knows who to bully and who not to bully. Granted Bria did slightly pull Angel's hair, but it wasn't intentional. Bria tried to apologize and Angel got a little heated. Glad Tina Charles jumped in and had Bria's back. Same with ONO.

Not every game counts towards the cup. These are the records concerning the cup:

Liberty has the most difficult path because they have to beat Atlanta on Tuesday and hope Indiana loses to Connecticut. Indiana has the tie breaker against New York from their win this past weekend.

Atlanta still holds their own fate since they own the tie breaker against Indiana so in theory they have the easiest path, but beating New York is no easy feat, especially considering that would mean that New York will have lost two games in a row.

I think the most likely scenario is that New York beats Atlanta, eliminating Atlanta from contention, and Indiana beats Connecticut. This means New York and Indiana will be 4-1 in the cup standings with Indiana having the tie breaker over New York from winning the head-to-head

TLDR, these are the four scenarios for next Tuesday:

(1)
Atlanta beats New York
Indiana beats Connecticut
Atlanta advances to the cup finals

(2)
Atlanta beats New York
Connecticut beats Indiana
Atlanta advances to the cup finals

I disagree with the slightly description. Was it as bad as other examples? No, but it didn't look like a light tug and it was definitely accidental.

It should be noted at the end of the game Reese and Charles were hugging. There didn't seem to be any hard feelings at the end of the game.

What I do not know are the criteria behind the 3-1 records. The Liberty has a 6-1 eastern conference record, so what is the subset of that with which they are working?

It would be labeled as a Commissioner's Cup game on the ESPN app. That's how I know. I believe all games between June 1st and 17th count towards the cup.

 
Does this happen in the NBA? Like, do European NBA players leave their teams for the male equivalent of EuroBasket? I guess there is barely an overlap for the NBA but it kind of irks me that WNBA players leave mid season for something like this. You don't see this in other professional sports.

Don't think the NBA is impacted as teams are reluctant to have their players play these events outside of the Olympics. At the same time, the European teams have good depth to compete without their key stars.

Hockey typically leverages players from teams that don't make the playoffs, for Euro or World Championships. If the NHL participates in the Olympics, they have a mid-season break similar to the WNBA.

This year, the NHL introduced the 4 Nations tournament which included the best players from Canada, the US, Finland and Sweden this past February. Considering how well it did, would not be surprised to see this happen again in 2027.

Nope it does not. The players don't play overseas. Only for the Olympics and that's not during the season
