2025 WNBA Regular Season

When did the Lynx sign Kliundikova (formerly Vadeeva)? I'm thinking this is her first game with them. LA's cast offs from training camp are becoming valued replacement players throughout the league as injuries mount.
Yep. First game with us here in Minnesota and she was signed on Friday.

It's what I feared after watching it live. :(

Not to be a debbie downer but could this end her career? She was already a step slower and a liability on defense...and now she has this to deal with.
I'm wondering the same. 36 now. Facing around a year of therapy/rehab. Hate to see her not be able to end her career on her own terms, but a come back could be difficult.

I fear it’s pretty likely it will, hope I’m wrong. Very sad way to end a fantastic career if so. I can’t imagine how much the Sky are gonna struggle now.

To state the obvious, Sloot at this stage in her career wasn’t what she once was, but that team is SORELY lacking playmaking outside of her. I don’t feel as though Van Lith is quite ready for that PG job full time, not that she’s bad, but I think she is a solid backup at this point.

But the whole roster is poorly constructed and the coaching staff is not doing them any favors. They barely even run offensive sets. The players are rarely in sync, the guards/wings and Reese/Cardoso rarely seem to be on the same page. It is genuinely a very rough watch. I know the Sun got beatdown today by the Washington Youngsters and the Wings have been struggling without Paige (please get well soon), but having watched every team at least a couple times this season, Chicago’s lows are so low I see no reason for optimism.

Sorry, vent over. And I’m sad for Sloot. Seeing another comment above on this thread that’s more positive about the Sky I feel mean and harsh saying all this but it’s just been tough for them out there!

Golden State beats LA in overtime and is looking like a playoff team.
Huh. Last I heard we had the second least power in the league... Now I know what happens when you make...
sparks flying GIF

I'm gonna go out on a limb (err) and say this doesn't end it. She'll rehab and play again. Whether she'll approach pre-injury level or be a starter again is another question.

2025 WNBA.com GM Survey: 40 questions ahead of new season

Thu, May 15, 2025, 8:22 AM
Michaela Gilmer, for WNBA.com

Fascinating predictions for the upcoming season including the projected championship team, projected MVP and well 40 interesting predictions.

As a Mercury fan I found the following heartening.

Which player is most likely to have a breakout season?

1. Satou Sabally, Phoenix – 20%
>>
Also receiving votes: Maddy Siegrist (DAL), Marina Mabrey (CON); Kelsey Plum (LAS) Gabby Williams (SEA); Aliyah Boston (IND); Rickea Jackson (LAS); Rhyne Howard (ATL); Brittney Griner (ATL)
I don't think the respondents understood the general usage of breakout.

For God's sakes, Brittney Griner is on the all time 25th Anniversary team.

Well, we know it wasn’t Tyler Marsh
I chuckled when I first saw this post because, well, a similar thought had passed by my mind. But watching Marsh on the sidelines last night looking...dazed? somewhere else?...like he was thinking this: What has (Chicago Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca) given us? And why?

You can see what Pagliocca was thinking: surround Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso and whomever they picked in the draft (Hailey Van Lith, Maddy Westbeld) with vets; hoping the team could get into the playoffs while the young core contributed, learned, etc.
Obviously, that's not been the case. Prior to being injured, 'Sloot looked like a player her age, alternating a good performance with mostly "eh" or worse showings. With all due respect, there's reasons why Rachel Banham, Kia Nurse and Michaela Onyenwere haven't stuck anywhere for long.

While Ariel Atkins has had a moment here or there, it's worth remembering how much Pagliocca gave up for her: the third pick, which turned into Sonia Citron. After the upcoming mass exodus of players, who would you rather have on your roster going forward? In addition to that, Mystics also received rights to swap first-round picks in 2027. Guess who this favors?

Reese had a decent game last night, but her development, as well as that of Cardoso, has not been an obvious linear exercise.
Folks have stressed patience. I'm going all prudent but realistic here: if this try/iteration looks as mediocre (and I'm being generous) by mid-summer, hit reset and play Van Lith and Westbeld as much as possible to see what you've got. Can't be any worse. Plus, if any of those contracts can be eaten....see if Sundell, Berger or other young players who just missed rosters are available.

Oh, and play Elizabeth Williams on a steady basis: there's a player who knows what she is, how she fits in and does it, all while conducting herself in a focused, determined and classy manner.

Whew....

Well, getting Caitlin Clark back can't come soon enough for the Indiana Fever. Aaliyah Boston led the team with 5 assists.
Among the guards, Sydney Colson and Kelsey Mitchell had one each while Aari McDonald had 2. While McDonald has scored well for the Fever, she's shown more Mitchell than Clark when it comes to lead/combo guard attributes. In her team-first approach, Boston is trying to generate flow from a (very) high post approach, but it also takes her out of the scoring flow.

In spite of her turnovers, the Fever need the proverbial straw that stirs the drink with CC. And they could use the spice of Ms. Sophie Cunningham., as well. Save for Howard, who gave a thorough, professional game, it looked pretty flat out there.

Boston is also being taken out of rebounding position when posted (very) high

I couldn’t agree more with this. This is the main source of my frustration in my comment above. The Chicago Sky front office, in my humble opinion, is quietly one of the worst in professional sports. Specifically right now, one could be forgiven for thinking they are sabotaging the organization intentionally. Ok, no they’re not, but that’s how incompetent they look.

The Atkins for the third pick trade was…let’s just say ill-advised. Atkins is an accomplished player and capable scorer - when I say it’s a bad trade I mean no offense to her whatsoever. But paying that salary for a one year rental instead of getting the number three pick for cheap? It seems they thought they were actually an Atkins away from being a contending team. Then throw in the 2027 pick swap on top of that, it’s looking like the Mystics fleeced the Sky.

They also handed a lottery pick next year (which should be a good draft) to the LYNX of all teams. Though they did get the fifth pick from the Sun. Then with their first round picks this year, took a draft and stash, Van Lith and Westbeld. With all due respect to them, the Sky are not looking like winners of this year’s draft.

I do not hate the Sky, far from it, but I hate to see them being run like this! It’s not a well constructed team right now, but the worst part is they also traded away their future.

They def thought this. They were so close to making the playoffs last year. They thought they were a player or 2 away

And it doesn't seem to matter who is leading the front office. Isn't this GM in year two?

If memory serves correct, they gave James Wade GM duties when they hired him as coach. His track record isn't that great either outside of his rookie year when they won the title.

Does anyone know what was up with the extended argument following last night's Mercury-Wings game?

DJ didn't care for the officiating.

Hilarious post on Mercury social media following the game

On X, Phoenix celebrated their win but couldn't help to throw shade at Dallas.

"Can’t spell Dallas without an L," the franchise posted.
