2025 WNBA Regular Season

As opposed to 1-4 in games where she doesn't dominate the offense? Not really making the case for either option.
I agree. It was merely a glib observation. But the problem with having a ‘ball dominant’ player — that’s the nice way to put it — isn’t that she makes or misses shots. It’s that she lulls her teammates to sleep. This is the opposite of what Paige does for her teammates. I think Arike would like to let Paige refashion the team along different (ie better) lines. But old habits die hard.

So, Indiana started the season with 11 players on the roster. Three "C's" -- Clark, Colson, Cunningham -- are now out. For how long, not really sure. But that brings up the hardship clause and if the Fever will need to try to qualify/petition for it. Her Hoops Stats explanation of said rules were recently posted and I cut and pasted the two elements, as well as including the whole post.

- The basic hardship exception is for teams with two players who are out because of injury, illness, or other conditions. Both players must be unable to play for at least three weeks from the time the team requests an exception.

- An emergency hardship exception is allowed, at the discretion of the league, when a team has fewer than 10 available players on their roster. This can be a result of injury or illness like the regular hardship exception ... If granted the exception, the team can sign as many players to replacement contracts as needed to reach 10 available players.

I said before Skylar hasn't won in the WNBA, and Quinn hasn't shown she can win. The only reason Stewie and Loyd didn't leave sooner was because of Sue.
I think Sky is winning in the WNBA. Might not be in the form of a title, yet, but she is winning. She is still in the W and teams and players, don't mind having her on their team. I know during her off year, she had teams (Seattle, Chicago, Indiana, and Minnesota) showing interest in requiring her services. Minnesota was a low-level interest but she was on the radar but there was interest.

Even though we all like to single an individual out for their great play on offense and defense, basketball, like all sports, is still a team game. Skylar can't do it all on her own. Skylar needs the other players to do their part and a whole lot of luck or things to bounce in that particular player/teams way. What happened in Phoenix. Nobody saw that unfolding the way it did. If they did, they should be playing the Powerball/Mega Millions then.

As for Coach Quinn, as Coach Gregg Popovich said years ago, "I ain't the one out there on the court throwing the ball away, bricking shots, not giving my all out there". Coach Quinn is doing her part. She prepares the players. I know the coaching staff has a game plan. The players gotta do their part and follow that game plan. As for that last part, it is what it is. All I know is, I love watching the WNBA games and Seattle and Minnesota are the two teams that I follow and it is annoying seeing Seattle play way below their potential and it is not all on Coach Quinn. The players gotta step up.

Thanks for sharing the rules with us. In this crazy 24/7 news cycle world and fast paced WNBA season, the Fever are on the clock to use the emergency hardship contract and fill a spot before Tuesday's game against the Mystics.

Hope they can bring in a decent point guard. Last game out, Boston was their best passer with 8 assists (no TOs) from the “ point forward” position - doubling the assists of anybody else on the team.

What's the biggest margin in a WNBA game? NY beat 100-52 Connecticut. Subs have played a lot for the Lib even.

edit--both teams played subs a bunch of minutes; it was 60-28 at the half and then a 30-8 barrage in Q3 left the outcome completely without suspense.

It's gonna be a long season for Sun fans. :(

Funny dialogue between the announcers in the Aces Storm game. In an up and down game the ball has been mushandled many times and the announcers are speculating it's the special ball used for the commissioners cup games.

It's early, but it seems like there are more bad teams than normal this season. Plenty of time for some of them to find a groove. Or get injured players back.

So...Plum, Sims and Allemand all started for LA today, all listed at 5-8. Tiniest starting lineup in WNBA history?

The 3:00 p.m. games were really interesting -

Winning on the road is hard.....

The Aces head up to the Pacific Northwest and take care of their business.

The Mercury make that trip to SoCal and.. overcome an early deficit and Odyssey to notch an important road win

The Sun - yikes. I know they won a game and if you look at the roster, have some talent, but my goodness they looked horrible today...

It's starting to clear up for me the worst 5 teams. I realize Indiana is a game behind GSV for the 8th spot, but I expect that to change very soon.

Connecticut, LA, Chicago, and Dallas - far and away the worst 4 teams. I think Golden State will drop into the bottom 5, but I'm surprised to find myself thinking they may be near the top of the "bottom 5"... Plus they are still without Hayes. They are a scrappy bunch...

The early deficit was 18 points! Let's not undersell what the Merc did here.

Today's game was a drubbing and it stinks to lose in that fashion to anyone. However, the Aces play this very same Storm team in exactly one week--with FAR MORE on the line. If they lose that one as well (especially in similar fashion), then you may want to question what's going on with the team. Winning this game and then losing the Commissioner's Cup game would not have been a satisfactory result, IMO.
Vegas takes the rematch (also on the road) and wins the more important game (Commissioner's Cup).

A lot of roster overhauls coupled with 7 new coaches out of 12 = high likelihood of turbulence. Only teams without significant change in their starting lineups are the defending champs Liberty and defending commissioners cup champs Lynx. And if we think this season is bad, next season will be total chaos since just about everyone's roster will be put through the post-CBA spin cycle.

Was she injured recently? Hayes is listed on the box score for tonight's game.

I have been pleasantly surprised with what I’ve seen from Golden State so far. I honestly feel like Conn, LA, Chicago, Dallas and Washington have all looked worse than them in some way or another. Tonight was a tale of two halves unfortunately for Golden State they were on fire in the first half and very cold in the second. But that half looked good, and they were hanging with the Liberty very well the other day too.

Their offense at this point is “well, I guess we’ll just shoot a three” a lot of the time, but all things considered, they look a lot more solid than I was expecting. And their home court atmosphere is fantastic.

Why thank you! We are viewing it as a year long audition for free agency players - everyone who comes through our arena needs to leave just a little bit envious. Our fans are so loud, and so into it. Burton hit a shot when we were down 13 with two minutes left and you'd be forgiven for thinking we just won the superbowl. The vibe is truly off the hook.
Also, how can how can you not love a team like this:

I've ended up watching a few/portions of a few Mercury games the last few weeks and what strikes me is how they're increasingly getting production from the slew of players that are either "international" or those that made their bread and butter in international markets

After getting used to the pace, calls and ebb and flow of the W, the Mercury seem to have one or two of their "misfit toys" step up every game to support/complement the Merc stars who are in the lineup. Last night, without AT, who facilitates so much of the Merc offense, they fell behind bigtime early. But they calmly chipped back bit by bit, with key 15-point contributions by Kitija Laska (early) and Kat Westbeld (second half). Sabally, of course, is leader of the pack, but she gets help. If not those two players on this night, it could be Malique Akoa Malani or Lexi Held or Sevgi Uzun.

And that help does it "calmly." Perhaps the experience overseas has a lot to do with it, but there's good chemistry -- whether it comes together organically and/or partially helped by the "million-dollar" coach, I'll leave to individual posters. ;)

In any case, they're an interesting and altogether surprisingly team to watch so far. It will be really interesting to see how they fare once Ms. Cooper is back.

Phoenix has signed Haley Jones on a rest-of-season hardship contract.
Glad to see it. I'm still not sure I see a long-term future in the league for her unless she fixes her jump shot, but getting out of Atlanta and a second chance with a new team will only help. Notwithstanding what some think about the "million dollar coach," I'm liking what I'm seeing in terms of the team identity and culture they're building in Phoenix. Way, way better than the quasi-toxic vibes of the past three or four years
