2025 WNBA Regular Season

Tina Charles kept the Sun afloat early, en route to an 18-pt. game, but she only had two rebounds and -- remarkably -- 11 of the Sun turnovers. I watched the entire second half and didn't recall that many -- although she had more than a few during the Fever comeback -- but wow.

On the positive, Haley Peters shot 4-4 off the bench, en route to 9 points and Saniya Rivers had her moments, going 3-5 from three-pt. land, including a clutch one to slow down the Fever comeback.

However, Marina Mabrey basically took over in the second half, scoring 17 or her 26 points. Overall, she shot 10-17 overall, 4-9 from three and 2-2 from the FT line (That's the 50-40-90 for one game). She also added 5 rebounds and assists, with only one TO. As much as she's known for her long-range shooting, I think the pull-up from the elbow might be her best shot.

There is also Plum's first game in Vegas as an opponent. What kind of reception will she get? Hamby's revenge tour against the Aces was quite successful last year. Will it continue for a second season?
No

JJ was out last night (also Sabally, who remains out).
Yeah...I don't care. They still have tons of fire power without her. There's no way the Valks should've been able to hang with the Lib.

Seattle is a bit disappointing so far this season, on the flip side the Dream have been a surprise. ATL got the road win. Howard and Gray combined for 61 points.

Very entertaining games in Phoenix and Seattle.

Winning on the road is hard very hard.

Minus Pheesa Cheryl takes her squad into the heat of the valley of the Sun and manages a win. No surprise as the highest paid coach in the WNBA, the $1.2 million man is unable to overcome the loss of AT as his career W coaching record falls to .500. While Phoenix managed to lead for much of the game they weren't able to close, a reoccurring problem in the era of the 1.2 million coach. Interesting that he earns almost twice what Cheryl earns with much less success.

And guards run wild for Atlanta in Seattle, perhaps the Dream might be better if BG dreams her way to retirement.

This is an odd take.

Minnesota doesn't use Phee to initiate and run its offense. Phoenix, on the other hand, is using AT as its point forward. Yes, Minnesota has a better coach and system than Phoenix, but the loss of AT is as detrimental to them as the loss of CC is to the Indiana Fever.

Oh, and the player they call "Kah" still isn't back. Just thought I'd point that out as well. Even if AT had played, the Mercury still wouldn't have been at full strength.

Despite that, Girl Dad had Satou and a bunch of misfit toys in position to take down a team that featured quite a few Olympians and All-Stars. Alanna Smith, Courtney Williams, and Kayla McBride are lightyears ahead of anyone who wore a Mercury jersey tonight that didn't have the surname "Sabally" stitched on the back.

And this is without Griner being relied upon for scoring, Naz Hillmon able to shoot 3 pointers and Briona Jones being Briona Jones.

Looking at the box score, what's even more impressive was the fact Atlanta was down and came back to win. Four players in double digits and that didn't include Griner. Dang.

It doesn't help that both Colson and Cunningham went down. They were without a PG for the majority of the game. I've got a feeling that they'll be getting a PG on a hardship contract. Maybe they can get Grace Berger to return?
I flipped to watching Diners, Drive-In, and Dives, after watching Kelsey Mitchell take over as point. I missed Cunningham going down. Jeez. Indiana and these injuries. Yikes. Hopefully nothing too serious for Syndey and Sophie. That Indiana/Connecticut game just got too sloppy and with both teams crying about fouls. It was too much to take in. Thanks to Triple D, I found a new dive here in Minneapolis that the wifey and I will be checking out today. :D ;)

Silver lining for sure! Hope you guys have great meal!

I gotta agree. Seattle is so frustrating to watch this season. I know it is only 6 games in, but I was thinking that Seattle would be 6-0 or 5-1, just from looking at the schedule at the start of the season. With the talent they have. All of the "playing with a chip on my shoulder" conversation during the off-season. Or "We playing with a complete roster" whatever that meant, I was thinking that I was going to be watching the Chicago Bulls Last Dance version of Seattle coming into the season. Like they were being motivated by misery of the off-season drama, well mini drama to me but still to me, I was thinking that they were going to be On Fire!! This Atlanta game was a setback to me.

I know it's not fair, because Arike had 7 assists. But it seems when she scores 37 they lose. It's not her fault -- at least not this time -- but maybe relying too much on her brings out the worst in the rest of the team. And I'm still scratching my head about how her +/- was 0 while scoring 37.
Dallas is 3-3 when Arike has scored at least 35 points.

I’m only thinking of the “New Wings.” This season, they are 0-1 when Arike dominates the offense. But, as I said, it isn’t really fair to Arike to blame her for it.

I said before Skylar hasn't won in the WNBA, and Quinn hasn't shown she can win. The only reason Stewie and Loyd didn't leave sooner was because of Sue.

Winning on the road is hard. Excellent teams win on the road while below average teams fail to defend the home court

Elite coaches adjust to injuries to win on the road. Average to mediocre coaches are unable to adjust to injuries at home

Last night Reeves and the Lynx accomplished something very hard. Perhaps this is why Reeves and her team are admired as exemplars of excellence.

The highest paid coach in W history as expected were unable to do something hard well really not so hard if winning at home is easier. Perhaps this game exemplifies the perplexing salary of 1.2 million.

The rematch in Minnesota should prove illuminating

Or maybe she could get some defense

I agree to an extent. She took some really bad “heat check” shots in crunch time of a close game @ Chicago, but when your superstar has 37 you have to live and consequently die by it.

As opposed to 1-4 in games where she doesn't dominate the offense? Not really making the case for either option.
