2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Not doubting that hes a good player, but good programs offering him doesnt mean anything. Remember Nick Timberlake last year at Kansas? He averaged 17 points on 41% from three at Towson before putting up career lows in almost every category at KU.

We just lost to a team whose starting backcourt are transfers from Iona, Florida Atlantic, and Belmont. That team is one of faves to win the natty. If you can play, you can play.

Unfortunately agents will lump UConn on lists just to draw attention and increase value.

90% of this is garbage and means nothing.

I honestly don’t even care - when you see a kid who was getting four minutes a game at East Idaho mention UConn, you know it’s not real.

But just being able to see info without having to wade through nine pages of static to find maybe four names would be a treat.

So I started a new thread. Use this one for nonsense and that one for not nonsense.

Is there a way that we can have a thread where people can simply look at it and tell which portal transfers have UConn interest?
You've been on the Boneyard since it began in the 1990's.

You should have known the answer to this question before you asked it.

Maybe a thread dedicated to UConn transfers that the staff has visiting ? That would indicate real interest vs the other garbage. I bet the staff already knows who they want and those players have not announced yet.

.-.

Yes, please.

The 6'5 195 Demary played all three backcourt positions at Georgia and finished the season with a 37.4 3P%, draws nearly 5 fouls/40, can create off the dribble and convert on the charity stripe (80.4 FT%). Good defender and generates turnovers too. Averaged 3.1 assists/gm too.

He's from Raleigh, so I'd imagine Wade will go all-in.

I would put UConn's portal track record and talent evaluators up against Kansas any day. And yeah-I know- We were looking at Timberlake prior to Cam showing up.

I do think there is value in the Law of Large Numbers-The number of programs looking at him would suggest to me that they're all not "missing" on the Monroe evaluation as he considers moving up in the quality of competition. We may never be able to get him on campus-don't know if there is mutual interest- and/or if his NIL "ask" even squares with us. Time will tell.
Timberlake was our #1 target. So this is a bit silly. Truth is, despite being athletic enough for this level, Timberlake lacked the processing ability to play at this level. That is super hard to evaluate coming up a level. I am wary especially of guys who dominated at lower levels on athleticism. A kid like Kolek, who dominated mentally, that is a kid who can step up.

I don’t know much about Monroe, but my fear is that as soon as he’s matched with guys who are bigger, faster and stronger he will be overmatched. That is my sense looking at the portal. Focus on guys who have Very high BBIQ.

We have that with the freshmen coming in. It would be nice to add more of it but it better come in a couple strong and athletic bodies who can get to the rim and finish.

We looked quite unathletic a lot of the time this season, we're losing our pogo stick Samson, and the only plus run and jump athlete coming in is Braylon who is slight.

We desperately need an infusion of athleticism, though. Obviously having heady players is great, but we were hideously slow this year and most games were at an athletic disadvantage (and then some) at positions 1-4 every game. We’re bringing in four heady recruits and three of them are not particularly quick/strong, etc. Even the good athletes were hopefully bringing back in Ball and Stew are consistently a step slow hence why they are sieves defensively.

The defense that Hurley wants to play requires some quickness to play tight man and rotate/switch as well as having a rim protector. This is why we saw Aidan struggle so much. He just didn’t have the physicality to play on an island like Hurley wants.

Stew was one our best defender besides Diarra in moving his feet on defense. He really improved by the end of the year. Ball was a little better but not great with lateral quickness.

Stew improved to not be a total liability by the end. But for the first 25-30 games he was really bad save the first Dixon game. And saying one of our best is the whole point of why we need a major infusion of athletes on this team.

Good point!. Tennessee snagged Dalton Knecht (2 years ago Northern Colorado), Chaz Lanier (North Florida), and Jordan Gainey (University of South Carolina Upstate).

He was solid during the season after a rough off season but shouldn't something like that be caught by an editor? I know some are live but most are recorded and that is an easy catch and edit. Do they not do have those? Are they solely self done pods?
He was not solid. His takes were imbecilic and shallow….when he was not reading from a script.

The 3 is a bit of a push from out front, can it get blocked easier? Question. This guy is the same size as Abraham but 2 years older, who never saw the floor this season. If Abraham is bigger and stronger after a season of training and lifting then why isn’t he mentioned more?
If he is really talented do we lose him by recruiting over him?
He left. We didn’t recruit over him.

some people were talking NBA for Stewart before the year started. He is definitely overhyped vis a vis his accomplishments.

He was listed on one draft board and got excited. It was hard NOT to get excited about the most dominant college basketball team in decades.

.-.
Not official. Trilly said he is though.
Is it true RJ Luis entered Portal?
Prob just posturing to raise his NIL. Repole seems like a limitless supply of $$. Need to be free agent to maximize contract

on another note, I wonder how long before Boras starts working with portal kids  That’s when real money starts

But the point is that the BY circle jerk over him was based on really two games last year where he showed he could play. I remember getting into it with a couple posters in the offseason who were insistent Stew would be the starting 3, score in the mid teens, and be a lottery pick based on those two games.

This year he showed he could really play in like 15 games, at least offensively. Hoping he’s here next year to make it 25-30. He obviously has talent - just hope the ridiculous love for him is based on his actual performance and not his potential.

I get that! But we were not dominant because of that player. I wish him all the best but he has not shown that kind of game yet

Stew has a nice looking shot when his feet are set. Movement shooting though would solely be on Ball unless a PG who can is brought in, or emerges.
We've got a Tasmanian freshman who made Australia's FIBA national team as a high school senior and got lots of praise for his IQ, shooting ability and toughness on the way............so no problem, just sit back and relax as the wins roll in next season!
