2025 Transfer Portal - UConn Interest Only

Have liked Monroe for awhile. Like him even more now that he's in the portal. For those questioning the talent level or upside-All you gotta to do is look at the quality of major programs showing interest in him since he went portal. Not sure we need him to be a great three point shooter with the guys we'd have around him (potentially). Boards/D/Buckets in the paint work for me.

Stewie and/or Amarri would create matchup nightmares for our opponents. Guessing Coach Moore connections to Q could be helpful if there's mutual interest.

No.

Look at the stats from our last benchwarmer who went to QU... Richie still couldn't average 5ppg or double-digit minutes. Look at the film. Look at whatever you want. Monroe is a better player than Abraham and it's not close.

I don't really even know if Monroe is the right fit for UConn. I'm not hyping the kid up for no reason. I'm coming from this from as neutral a place as you can get. I'm not really invested in either kid playing for our team if I'm going to be honest.
You may be right, I'm just saying that getting big minutes at Quinnipiac doesn't mean you're better than a bench warmer at UConn. Some bench warmers at UConn become 2nd team BE in their 2nd year.

I also wouldn't compare Abraham to Richie Springs.

Not doubting that hes a good player, but good programs offering him doesnt mean anything. Remember Nick Timberlake last year at Kansas? He averaged 17 points on 41% from three at Towson before putting up career lows in almost every category at KU.

I would put UConn's portal track record and talent evaluators up against Kansas any day. And yeah-I know- We were looking at Timberlake prior to Cam showing up.

I do think there is value in the Law of Large Numbers-The number of programs looking at him would suggest to me that they're all not "missing" on the Monroe evaluation as he considers moving up in the quality of competition. We may never be able to get him on campus-don't know if there is mutual interest- and/or if his NIL "ask" even squares with us. Time will tell.

Then there’s Mark Sears who transferred from an even worse conference that same offseason and has been one of the best players in the country the past 2 years. All you can do is scout, assess the player and fit, and give it a go. Nobody bats 1.000

I like Monroe. He would obviously take far less than 30% of UConn’s shots which would help his efficiency. He can cut out what kills his efficiency which is shooting off of the dribble and out of necessity being his team’s go to scorer. He’s physical, athletic, he generates a lot of turnovers (top 60 in STL% the last 2 yrs) defensively, and he is a great rebounder. Those are all things UConn needs. As long as their PG transfer can shoot I don’t think spacing would be a huge issue with Ball and Mullins also in the fold.

My only point in all this is that I would argue against fans who think being pinned to the bench as a freshman says everything about your qualities as a player and your future possibilities.

They would? I think Stew has a lot of potential, but I swear, he might be the most overrated player in the history of the BY.
That would be Nowell. His performance to post ratio was off the charts. Not saying he can't be great but he hasn't even flashed yet.

At the same time you can be way more confident that Monroe would contribute in some sort of role next year than Abraham. One has an all conference (yes a smaller conference) track record at the college level, the other one has a HS ranking to his credit and that’s about it. And in Abraham’s case, he had a pretty unimpressive EYBL season heading into his senior year of HS too, which is the highest level of competition he faced from a talent perspective. If I had to choose one or the other for next year’s team, it’s an easy decision.

I deleted the post, although now its there forever, but there were a few guys on this team whose backup QB qualities were off the charts.

Even at Paul VI, Abraham really only showed flashes and a physical profile. The efficiency or even flashes of a scoring bag were never there. He was a defender and 5th scoring option.

I think he could make a mean glue guy at a very good basketball school if he puts in the work. But Abraham really never demonstrated that he has star potential. If we have Ross, Stewart and Abraham on the roster and (probably) only one of them is getting serious minutes in that 6th/7th-man wing role, I think we know exactly who the priority should be.

Question. This guy is the same size as Abraham but 2 years older, who never saw the floor this season. If Abraham is bigger and stronger after a season of training and lifting then why isn’t he mentioned more?
If he is really talented do we lose him by recruiting over him?
Do we talk about this kind of stuff on this forum under some kind of "excited utterance" exception?
Recruiting Monroe must mean AKis gone?
This strikes me as speculation of a type that I'd bet many people resist because they respect the request not to. Do you claim an exception?

of course it would be nice to have both but harder to pitch a guy in high demand when the starter may or may not be coming back
You still make the pitch.

I’d scoop Monroe up for 20 minutes backing up the 3/4. Not sure the shot is good enough to be a starter in our offense, but we need a guy that can come in and inject energy, and get stops/rebounds. He’d also fit really nicely with Reibe as a floor spacer, and I bet Reibe will need help on the boards. The one year commitment is nice as well.

We don't need any more reserves we need athletic shooters that can play defense !!!

Is there a way that we can have a thread where people can simply look at it and tell which portal transfers have UConn interest?

It’s not that I do not value the scouting abilities of the 250 middle managers here, but it would be nice to have a thread where the wheat to chaff ratio doesn’t cause a migraine for anyone trying to find some actual information.

Keep this one open for discussion, but pin one that has links only for UConn portal offers?

Unfortunately agents will lump UConn on lists just to draw attention and increase value.

90% of this is garbage and means nothing.

That goofy Bama guy Grant Nelson was at ND St.

I think there's lots of potential talent at schools we're not even looking at, and I have confidence in our coaches to evaluate the best talent that fits their needs.
