The 3 is a bit of a push from out front, can it get blocked easier? Question. This guy is the same size as Abraham but 2 years older, who never saw the floor this season. If Abraham is bigger and stronger after a season of training and lifting then why isn’t he mentioned more?
If he is really talented do we lose him by recruiting over him?

Yes, it can get blocked easier. But TBH it's not really something I'm concerned with. We don't want him (or anyone, if we can help it) taking close, contested 3s anyways.

Abraham may be the same size and athleticism, but he has 1/4 the talent. If basketball was all about who's the biggest, we'd have a roster of 7-footers.

Maybe it’s bad luck. He gets poked in the eye, hit in the head, small twists of ankles, and draws blood more than any player I’ve ever seen in my life.

Respectfully, Abraham wasn't good enough to see a meaningful minute of basketball this year at UConn. Monroe was. The star rating out of high school is meaningless once you step on campus.

Hard to make these projections from minnow conferences to places like UConn.

Mahaney was great at St. Mary's but hardly saw playing time at UConn.

If roles were reversed on Abraham were at Quinnipiac while Monroe was at UConn, you'd be hard-pressed to see Monroe get minutes. Maybe he would but the coaches make these determinations and we've seen talented freshman sit here.

Think of Solo Ball, 2nd team BE. You could easily make the same argument about him last year, that he's not as good as some freshman from the Colonial League that made 100+ 3s last year at a 38% clip.

Look at the stats from our last benchwarmer who went to QU... Richie still couldn't average 5ppg or double-digit minutes. Look at the film. Look at whatever you want. Monroe is a better player than Abraham and it's not close.

I don't really even know if Monroe is the right fit for UConn. I'm not hyping the kid up for no reason. I'm coming from this from as neutral a place as you can get. I'm not really invested in either kid playing for our team if I'm going to be honest.

I mean, I'd kill for another Tristen, and I hope we get Nait George (who I believe is our top priority). But I don't think the staff is ruling out anyone who can do the job of high-level shot creation at this point.

For those questioning the talent level or upside-All you gotta to do is look at the quality of major programs showing interest in him since he went portal. Not sure we need him to be a great three point shooter with the guys we'd have around him (potentially). Boards/D/Buckets in the paint work for me.

Stewie and/or Amarri would create matchup nightmares for our opponents. Guessing Coach Moore connections to Q could be helpful if there's mutual interest.

You may be right, I'm just saying that getting big minutes at Quinnipiac doesn't mean you're better than a bench warmer at UConn. Some bench warmers at UConn become 2nd team BE in their 2nd year.

I also wouldn't compare Abraham to Richie Springs.

I would put UConn's portal track record and talent evaluators up against Kansas any day. And yeah-I know- We were looking at Timberlake prior to Cam showing up.

I do think there is value in the Law of Large Numbers-The number of programs looking at him would suggest to me that they're all not "missing" on the Monroe evaluation as he considers moving up in the quality of competition. We may never be able to get him on campus-don't know if there is mutual interest- and/or if his NIL "ask" even squares with us. Time will tell.

Then there’s Mark Sears who transferred from an even worse conference that same offseason and has been one of the best players in the country the past 2 years. All you can do is scout, assess the player and fit, and give it a go. Nobody bats 1.000

I like Monroe. He would obviously take far less than 30% of UConn’s shots which would help his efficiency. He can cut out what kills his efficiency which is shooting off of the dribble and out of necessity being his team’s go to scorer. He’s physical, athletic, he generates a lot of turnovers (top 60 in STL% the last 2 yrs) defensively, and he is a great rebounder. Those are all things UConn needs. As long as their PG transfer can shoot I don’t think spacing would be a huge issue with Ball and Mullins also in the fold.

And in Abraham’s case, he had a pretty unimpressive EYBL season heading into his senior year of HS too, which is the highest level of competition he faced from a talent perspective. If I had to choose one or the other for next year’s team, it’s an easy decision.

Even at Paul VI, Abraham really only showed flashes and a physical profile. The efficiency or even flashes of a scoring bag were never there. He was a defender and 5th scoring option.

I think he could make a mean glue guy at a very good basketball school if he puts in the work. But Abraham really never demonstrated that he has star potential. If we have Ross, Stewart and Abraham on the roster and (probably) only one of them is getting serious minutes in that 6th/7th-man wing role, I think we know exactly who the priority should be.
