2025 Inbound Portal Options (December 9th - 28th 2024 & April 16th - 25th 2025 Cycle)

Here is another option. Rumor is Cal QB Fernando Mendoza is going into portal. He may be willing to come to UConn.

What else did you ask Santa for?

Do you guys think Warner from Rice is worth signing?
That's a good question. Did any one here watch him play this year for Rice? I watch him played for Temple in a couple games a few years ago. He is NOT a runner. He is a pocket quarterback with a strong arm. I wasn't overwhelmed by his performance but it was more than 2 years ago and Temple didn't have much of run game to support their passing game! I would be interested with what other people think of Warner's game.

Going by the stats, no thanks. Fagnano played half the games Warner did and Joey threw more touchdowns. EJ also threw almost an interception per touchdown this past year. He wasn't too much better at Temple, so would rather have someone a bit better.

According to PFF, Warner has improved each year and he is now a slightly above average FBS QB and is rated well above Fagnano although Joe's stats were better.

Lets entertain this... was a starting quarterback at Cal for all their games this year... from Miami Florida.

No, there is no chance on this earth he will be playing for UConn next year.

if we're judging qbs on raw touchdowns we're making massive mistakes

That's probably similar to what was said about Nick Evers when he was at Wisconsin. I remember there was speculation he was heading to Iowa. Cal's team and UConn's are about the same quality.

If you're going to tap into the portal, for a QB, accuracy on film would be my #1 trait i would look for.
Also, somebody that clearly shows command of the offense... shows the ability to see the field, not focus on one receiver... and can run if/when need be

Reese Poffenbarger is back in the portal. Was a baller at Albany but behind Cam Ward at Miami and apparently isn't their first choice for next year.

Would absolutely take him. Very athletic dude.

Evers started all of his team's games?

Just find a guy that can hit the slants, Sammis wants to set you up with the run and then hit slants and back shoulder throws on you.

Don't care who offered coming out of HS. Just find a guy with tape showing he could be accurate in college games. FBS/FCS.

61.5% and 18 TDs to 5 Ints. Works for me. He also had 2 rough games in a row is why he was benched.
And a new coach. New coaches always want "their guy"

If Tyler Van Dyke enters the portal, I'd hand him the keys. He's got one year left, and the younger guys might need another year before they're ready. Bring Tyler home for his final year of ball.

He had two really good games to start the season against FSU and Duquesne. The rest of the season, he struggled both passing and running the ball. And, the stats say he struggled when under pressure especially when compared to the QB who replaced him James. On passes thrown over 10 yards, Castellanos was 45.5% with 6 TDs and 3 Ints and James was 61.4% with 6 TDs and 1 Int.

And, it was pretty clear that Castellanos' passing ability didn't fit what Bill O'Brien wants to do on offense and he was replaced at QB.
