2025 Inbound Portal Options (December 9th - 28th 2024 & April 16th - 25th 2025 Cycle)

My question is what happens with Evers next season. Wonder where he'll fall in the depth chart
he'll have every opportunity to win a starting spot here. UConn is his 3rd college.
Time to step up, dude. Its your job if you work hard enough.

UConn needs to get a QB that can throw a consistent pass. It needs to be a QB that actually has played well at least at the G5 level. 2nd is they need to make sure they keep their star players before looking for players in portal.

Sounds like TVD will be back in the portal. Bring that boy home!
He's coming off injury I see... Makes sense, for one and done... We need to push that QB room to the limit... Somebody will rise to the top...

I don't want a solid FCS player. That was JF and we saw what that resulted in at the level we are at. Serviceable QB play but not something you can hang your hat on. I agree on getting a proven starter from a G5 conference. Let's be honest, any starter or backup from a P4 is not coming here. However, a low G5 conference transfer who is looking to move up and/or play for a coach with NFL experience, would be a good addition.

Proven starters at the G5 level go to P4 teams. Unless we're willing to spend most of our NIL on just the QB, I doubt we'll be able to compete for one.

What we should be aiming for is proven QBs at the FCS level. UNLV is a perfect example, they got two really good FCS quarterbacks last year and they had probably the best season in their history.

I’d make a qb a priority. Evers never played healthy and u have to wonder if he might be another guy who struggles to stay healthy. HCJM is enamored w/dual threat qb so we Shd have another at the ready.

Keeping it a buck, QB is the most important position on the team... If a straight dawg is available in the portal, knowing what we currently have, you gotta invite him to the party... Having a QB that can see the openings in defenses and has the ability to exploit that (pushing the football down the field with his arm, with touch..) How do you pass that up... If we say, find a guy like Syracuse QB McCord, who's just quite simply been stuck behind another guy, or got benched because he still can't beat Michigan, or Alabama, or Oregon, you take him....just sayin

I'm not sold on that idea that G5 QBs all go to P4 schools. I think we could compete for a low G5 starter if we saw someone we liked. An AAC/MW QB we'd likely have zero shot but a MAC/CUSA/Sun Belt QB we might.

McCord was the starter. And that caliber of player isn't coming here unless we find a total sleeper.

I will be really hard to overpay. Schools with $100M a year will max out their revenue share. And we won’t be able to match even the schools that are pulling in half of that with out more state support or a P4 invite.

Things will be more and more stratified starting now.

I was talking about 1 player.

Here is another option. Rumor is Cal QB Fernando Mendoza is going into portal. He may be willing to come to UConn.

What else did you ask Santa for?

Do you guys think Warner from Rice is worth signing?
That's a good question. Did any one here watch him play this year for Rice? I watch him played for Temple in a couple games a few years ago. He is NOT a runner. He is a pocket quarterback with a strong arm. I wasn't overwhelmed by his performance but it was more than 2 years ago and Temple didn't have much of run game to support their passing game! I would be interested with what other people think of Warner's game.

Going by the stats, no thanks. Fagnano played half the games Warner did and Joey threw more touchdowns. EJ also threw almost an interception per touchdown this past year. He wasn't too much better at Temple, so would rather have someone a bit better.

According to PFF, Warner has improved each year and he is now a slightly above average FBS QB and is rated well above Fagnano although Joe's stats were better.

Lets entertain this... was a starting quarterback at Cal for all their games this year... from Miami Florida.

No, there is no chance on this earth he will be playing for UConn next year.

if we're judging qbs on raw touchdowns we're making massive mistakes

That's probably similar to what was said about Nick Evers when he was at Wisconsin. I remember there was speculation he was heading to Iowa. Cal's team and UConn's are about the same quality.

If you're going to tap into the portal, for a QB, accuracy on film would be my #1 trait i would look for.
Also, somebody that clearly shows command of the offense... shows the ability to see the field, not focus on one receiver... and can run if/when need be

Reese Poffenbarger is back in the portal. Was a baller at Albany but behind Cam Ward at Miami and apparently isn't their first choice for next year.

Would absolutely take him. Very athletic dude.

Evers started all of his team's games?
