Story now is that Michigan had investigated him this fall but could find no proof of the affair. Until Monday when the girlfriend came forward.

How could you not find proof? You have private investigators follow them … ?

They didn't want to find proof, they wanted to be able to say "we heard the rumors, investigated, but found no proof".

That game has been around forever.

This is an all-time crash out for the Michigan coach. Why was he ever hired? Why wasn't he fired when everyone knew about his behavior. How the hell is Warde Manuel still employed?

Warde Manuel has failed up spectacularly.

I am no great supporter of Warde Manuel. Might be the worst AD in UConn history and among the worst in the country. What I am tempted to say is he was monitoring the situation.

But in this case I think it is pretty unlikely he acted irresponsibly. You know 1 man’s irrefutable evidence can be seen as heresay by another. So if you get a report, you need to investigate and review the results. And in this case you need to be very sure you are right. You can’t ruin somebody’s reputation, career and life without something more than a rumor. Besides that, what does it get you to delay? Players can leave if the coach changes. And if I recall correctly, even if he signs a commitment letter a player can back out without penalty for some number of days. It extends further if the head coach leaves. So there is little to be gained by not moving quickly. Might even be in a better position if they had moved in October or November. There’ a very good chance they would have filled the position already with a name coach and be moving on.
Dude, everyone at Michigan knew back in August.

Smith insists on his innocence and says he will fight Ohio's version of whatever may have happened.

Will be interesting to see if we ever get any more details on this story.

Seems like a really strange situation at Ohio. Unclear what he did. Plus isn’t he the guy who was coaching on a LOI rather than a contract? Really hard to know what to make of this. Not like Ohio is trying to make an excuse to fire the coach so they can bring in Kiffin.

Cheers!
Appears OU’s Smith dismissal initially citing keeping alcohol and drinking in the coach’s office as “serious professional misconduct” inconsistent with his university employee contract may be preliminary HR cover. Guess ex-coach Frank Solich never drank in his office, and only drank and drove in heavy drinking Athens.

Earlier rumors suggested Smith had been in a relationship with a current OU nursing student, unclear allegations in a divorce filing, etc. Time may tell, meanwhile OU expedited a search to replace 1 year HC Smith.

I don’t know. As long as it wasn’t a student in a class he taught or a football related class/job and she was over 18 that seems a little bogus. There are no reports of assault or any other situations at this point.

The highest paid employee of the school having an affair with a student of said school is not problematic to you?

If this was high school it would be problematic, or if he was her class professor and it was an “extra credit” assignment. But if they have no dealings with each other, besides dating, and they’re both adults, then I say have at it.
