Yeah this sucks. I liked Don.Sucks for Don Brown...seems like a good guy who really cares about UMass. The right thing would've been to let him finish out the year and "retire" on his terms.
Who the heck is going to want the UMass job??? Being in a conference now will help but still, can't be a ton of top coaches wanting that gig.
Another Owl down:
People have and will say the same thing about us. I'll celebrate beating them, but watching them suffer strikes too close a nerve. Unlike the other team in Mass, I don't hate them.Umass needs to be FCS. There entire outfit seems like a high school "brand" at best.
Think with all the upheaval in college sports a lot of programs are in win now mode for FB to get the best TV/conference deals they can.I'm surprised Herman got fired. I figured with his past success he'd get some leeway
Yeah 2 years seems not enough time. Wonder if there are other issues at play.I'm surprised Herman got fired. I figured with his past success he'd get some leeway

No, UConn feels and represents like it's a big-time brand. For god's sake look at UMass's football stadium.People have and will say the same thing about us. I'll celebrate beating them, but watching them suffer strikes too close a nerve. Unlike the other team in Mass, I don't hate them.
That was my thought too.I'm surprised Herman got fired. I figured with his past success he'd get some leeway
I have a feeling (trying to be optimistic for them) being in the MAC with very similar programs will help UMass. Being part of a conference will help recruit to that level, become familiar with competition, and give the program some type of foundation. It will be the eastern most program in the conference which may be an advantage when recruiting MAC level players from the East Coast. And with the transfer portal, kids can do very well in the MAC and get a look from the B1G. I know it didn't work out too well the first rodeo, but who knows.Sucks for Don Brown...seems like a good guy who really cares about UMass. Going to the MAC, the UMass job got better. Now, they will play comparable teams with the possibility of winning the MAC. They will play 8 MAC games, an FCS, probably UConn, 1 P4 and 1 other game. This year, UMass is playing 3 SEC teams and next year they were scheduled to play 3 P4 schools on the road. And, most of there games will be on regular TV.Sucks for Don Brown...seems like a good guy who really cares about UMass. Best thing to happen to programs such as UMASS and ourselves was the advent of the portal.I have a feeling (trying to be optimistic for them) being in the MAC with very similar programs will help UMass.
