2023 Recruiting Thread

My birthday is the day after Christmas, I open all my presents on Christmas day. I have always hated surprises. Wish Coach Pehrson would just come out and tell us who it is!

Coaches cannot do that unless they have signed LOIs. The player has to announce "verbals".
I understand that a LOI needs to be signed, but isn't this the early signing period? Or was the signing period only last week?

Leonard Payne is a 6-3 310lb DL from Downey California attending Fresno State (Transfer Portal w/ one year eligibility remaining). Other offers from Colorado, Indiana, Kansas State, LaTech, Nevada, ODU and Troy.

Interesting… I figured he had a home when the rumors surfaced that he decommitted from UConn:

I always find it interesting when players from teams UConn played get interest from UConn and express interest in UConn. Players aren't always fools and they know at the end of the game what type of opponent they played. It's a sign of respect to look to transfer to a program who beat you that season.

Maybe he thought he received a scholarship offer from a more glamorous school but it turned out to be a PWO.

Could be, and Librado Barocio may be a helpful contact. Ex-UCLA player during Mora's time in Westwood, ex-Fresno State grad assistant, and current UConn grad assistant.

Now if we can only get more of them to commit

Fresno State DL Leonard Payne commits to Colorado

Looks like he played for BYU last year and played well for both Vandy and BYU. Also, he was born in New York city, so I wonder if he has extended family in the northeast.

Maybe he has an Uncle Jerry.

Or at least announce their commitments as there are at least two out there the coaches have signaled that we haven't had the player announce yet.
Someone said on the FB board that we can't officially sign anyone because we don't have free spots. Players can still commit. I wonder if there aren't any announcements from players because they are kind of in a holding pattern? Just a thought but I have no clue.
