Thrilled they're bring in Matthews now, meaning if we can't pull off a miracle tonight, they might not have him for many innings tomorrow

Top 8th, Chudoba on the mound, and Sullivan and O'Donnell warming up.

Chudoba gives up a leadoff walk, O'Donnell coming in to face a lefty hitter.

There are quite a few things that I don't get here. I won't single any batters out but there were a few spots (including one critical that could have led to a big inning) where free swinging hurt us badly.

Also a lack of maturity by a veteran player is inexcusable (but I do hope that it ends up hurting us).

Major kudos to Chudoba!

Top 8th, O'Donnell walks the first batter he faces, Sullivan coming in to pitch with 2 runners on and no out.

Those appearances are always rough, come in for 4 straight balls and get pulled.

I know his era is not bad but man OD seems to struggle more often than he doesn’t. He likely wasn’t gonna pitch to more than 1 hitter but none of those were remotely close.
In the playoffs, this has certainly been the case. Regular season he was very dependable. As Penders sometimes says, it seems the moment might have gotten too big for him.

No matter what happens from here on out, I am extremely impressed with Chudoba. Wish he wasn't graduating off the team.
He has another year of eligibility but he’s not gonna use it.

And before that, Quinn did pretty well in most of the games he appeared in. Suspect Quinn will come in if runs start coming in for Stanford to help save the rest of the pen.
Good context, my bad

If nothing else, at least holding Stanford scoreless for 7 innings gives our pitchers more confidence going into tomorrow. I feel like we were a little scared from the late game barrage from yesterday and were intimidated today.

This is a great point. So much of baseball is mental.
