I don’t know what to make of their talk about the schools involved as our latest transfer was supposed to go to UCF according to them

FWIW, if he had signed with UConn out of high school in the 2022 class, he would have been the 2nd highest ranked recruit ever on 247 behind Jarell Miller…

Of course, Jarell Miller never played a down from scrimmage.

Hopefully this young man is a solid contributor next year and eventually a star. And good job by the staff getting him here.

But as to whether he moves the needle, time will tell.

I’m guessing a Grad Transfer/PWO? w/ two years of eligibility remaining. From Shelton CT and graduated in 2018 from Fairfield Prep in Fairfield CT and went to Oxford College of Emory University in Oxford, Georgia>Emory University Atlanta, Georgia. (and played basketball - Oxford-Emory doesn’t have football?).

Baltimore Maryland DL Ayobami Tifase commits to Florida State. Originally a 2023 offer but it looks like Tifase is a late 2022 qualifier and passing on the PG year @ Myrtle Beach Collegiate Prep.

This was his offer list when UConn offered back in March: AIC, Alderson Broadus, Frostburg State University, Millersville University, Missouri, Shippensburg University and Virginia State University.

Jazston Turnetine is headed to Florida State. UConn was in on both of these players - Tifase was originally a 2022, Reclassed to 2023 then back to 2022.

I don't think there's any doubt it was necessary. The Diaco recruiting in particular was simply abysmal. We were slow beyond words.

Now, whether Mora can integrate all this is another matter. I would have to imagine it's going to take some time.

For 1, almost all kids get seen, we've seen a rise of FBS/G5 programs come online like UNC Charlotte, Coastal Carolina etc., Giving kids from down there more options to play FBS ball closer to home, and he no longer had the promise of the Big East/BCS to sell.

UConn and any coach here going forward has to embrace the transfer portal as a reality. To write them off at large is shooting yourself in the foot.

The roster must have had some of Diaco's kids last year, but maybe not.

Totally agree that the transfer portal is now a must to address talent needs for a program like UCONN. I don't particularly like it, but that is certainly the reality.
