Last year, the vast majority of kids were Edsall recruits. In my opinion, the biggest failure from Edsall 2.0 was on the offensive side from recruiting to coaching. If you look at the 2018 to 2021 recruiting classes, Edsall brought in 16 offensive line recruits and only 7 are still on the roster. Only 1 QB recruited in the 2018 to 2021 recruiting classes is still on the roster. Having Guifre act as both the OL coach and OC caused the offense to collapse.

Total Offense:

2017: Lashlee ranked #50
2018: Dunn ranked #89
2019: Guifre ranked #108
2020: COVID
2021: Guifre tanked #128

Unfortunately, not playing the 2020 season didn't expose how the team was slipping and I think it delayed replacing Edsall by 1 year.

I think you are right. However, I think that Mora is the right man for the job (fingers and toes crossed) and he still had another year on his buyout/kid's senior year of high school so I bet he would not have been available if we were doing a coaching search after a 2020 season.

I’m not going to die on the hill of defending Edsall, but I don’t think the bolded line above is totally fair. I don’t think the issue was so much recruiting decent players as it was keeping them on campus for more than a year or two. Too many freshmen and sophomore contributors transferred out by the time they could make a real impact.

I understand that there are at least two kids on the spring roster that are not returning. This info seemingly isn't widely known yet, but should be soon.

Therefore, I think we have room for one more to stay at 85 scholarships. Currently my chart has us at 86 scholarships as I haven't pulled the two kids that arent returning from my chart just yet. That said, if two more late names for 2022 are added this month I wouldn't be surprised as it means that perhaps the punter they added via the portal is not on scholarship or perhaps there is a third kid not returning.

Bottomline, I think one or two more names could be added for 2022 before August.

That's 42 players who will be starting with the program this season. An unbelievable number. Let's hoping the staff knows what it has and can make our team substantially better with them.

I'm going out on a limb with yet another glass half full mindset... I think AD David Benedict's choice of JM, with the staff put together as a whole, is light years better than what we've seen since our entire D1/FBS era... light years better... I know these coaches can't play for the players, but the one thing seems a little obvious is the recruiting got a lot better.. We got P5 kids to come play for us.. multiple kids... unprecedented for our program... We're gonna be good sooner rather than later... I don't see us getting smoked a ton this year... They key (probably as always) for our success is how well we hold up in the trenches... we pretty much re-hauled the OL and DL, and added depth with experienced kids, which we desperately needed. This is gonna tell a ton on our success.. we've got pieces, now let's put it together and shock folks....

Completely different, new offensive coordinator and a switch to a 3-4 defense that will probably be very aggressive with the blitz packages.
