I was listening to WFAN about 3-4 days ago and a guy calls up from “Storrs”
Guy is clearly from NY or NJ with his accent and talking about some NY team
Anyway he menTions that his kid just recently got a acholly up there but unfortunately it was for the worst college football team ever or something along those lines.
Typical NY tough guy - be happy with the scholly pops.

Quite frankly, whatever our recruiting strategy and execution is - it’s not working. We need to do much better.

USA Today NJ team below. Thought I would touch on the players we recruited.

2018 ALL-USA New Jersey Football Team

First Team
QB Nick Kargman (6-4, 185, Sr.), Woodrow Wilson (Camden) <--Signed with Western Michigan, did have some UConn staff following.
RB Jada Byers (5-7, 160, Jr.), St. Joseph (Hammonton)
RB Juwon Jackson (5-10, 180, Sr.), Piscataway <--Camped at UConn this summer and attended a game this fall. Word is we aren't taking any more RBs at this time...but if that changes he might be on the short list. Currently has an offer to Wagner.
WR Stanley King (6-5, 175, Sr.), Woodrow Wilson (Camden) <--Attended UConn camp as Junior. He is a Louisville decommit w/ coaching change. Zyskowski, Wholley (and Crocker) have been following him. Brother attends Temple.
WR Charles Njoku (6-5, 200, Sr.), Wayne Hills (Wayne)
TE Tyler Devera (6-4, 225, Sr.), Bergen Catholic (Oradell) <--Prior to this season and his brother's arrest he was a big time TE prospect. At this point he best offer is from UMass. I wouldn't be surprised about anything here including the JUCO route or a signing day surprise with a late P5 offer. Nothing obvious to suggest we are still recruiting Tyler, but maybe that changes in January since we have a TE need. Brendan was UConn bound as a LB recruit before taking a very late Rutty offer.
OL John Olmstead (6-6, 300, Sr.), St. Joseph (Metuchen) <--Had UConn offer and committed to ND.
OL Luke Wypler (6-4, 280, Jr.), St. Joseph (Montvale)
OL Austin Mosier (6-4, 275, Sr.), Piscataway
OL Wisdom Quarshie (6-3, 310, Sr.), St. Joseph (Hammonton)
OL Caedan Wallace (6-6, 310, Sr.), Hun (Princeton)
Second Team
QB Steve Lubischer (6-1, 180, Sr.), Red Bank Catholic
RB Johnny Martin (5-9, 200, So.), Highland (Blackwood)
RB Jermaine Corbett (5-7, 170, Jr.), Long Branch
WR Ronnie Hickman (6-2, 205, Sr.), DePaul (Wayne)
WR Max Baker (5-9, 170, Sr.), Ramapo (Franklin Lakes)
TE Kevin Bauman (6-5, 245, Jr.), Red Bank Catholic
OL CJ Hanson (6-5, 305, Sr.), St. John Vianney (Holmdel) <--Attended UConn in the spring, but signed with Rutty
OL Bryan Felter (6-3, 290, Jr.), Bergen Catholic (Oradell)
OL Joe Rondi (6-4, 250, Sr.), Wayne Hills (Wayne)
OL Charley Burkhardt (6-2, 280, Sr.), Somerville
OL Kevin Cerruti (6-3, 285, Sr.), Long Branch
DEFENSE
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
: Antonio Alfano, Colonia (Woodbridge)
The Alabama commit fought off constant double teams to show why he was the state’s top senior recruit. Alfano piled up 79 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hurries, 10 sacks and six forced fumbles.
First Team
DL Howard Cross (6-2, 265, Sr.), St. Joseph (Montvale) <--Son of the NY Giant
DL Izaiah Henderson (6-4, 280, Sr.), Mater Dei (New Monmouth)
DL Antonio Alfano (6-4, 285, Sr.), Colonia (Woodbridge)
DL Jeremiah Grant (6-3, 240, Jr.), Bergen Catholic (Oradell)
LB Brian Ugwu (6-3, 220, Sr.), Hillside <--As noted yesterday, seems to be deciding between Pitt or Temple. He did attend UConn last spring at a junior day.
LB Tirek Austin-Cave (6-2, 215, Jr.), Camden
LB Cody Simon (6-1, 210, Jr.), St. Peter’s (Jersey City)
DB Connor Holmes (5-9, 175, Sr.), Sayreville <--Attended a UConn game this fall with Juwon Jackson. Speedy WR/DB opted for Army rather than waiting on UConn to offer.
DB Michael Jarmolowich (6-2, 190, Sr.), Delbarton (Morristown)
DB Omar Rogers (6-1, 195, Sr.), Burlington Township
DB Donovan Bunch (5-11, 165, Sr.), Winslow (Atco)
Second Team
DL RJ Oben (6-4, 240, Sr.), St. Peter’s (Jersey City) <--Son of the NY Giant
DL Brad Lomax (6-2, 235, Sr.), St. Joseph (Hammonton)
DL Gabe Klaus (6-2, 215, Sr.), Haddonfield
DL Aaron Lewis (6-6, 235, Jr.), Williamstown
LB Mohammad Kamara (6-2, 210, Sr.), Newark Central
LB Mohamed Toure (6-2, 215, Sr.), Pleasantville <--I believe he attended a UConn junior day last spring. Rutty bound.
LB Jonathan Alvarado (6-1, 230, Sr.), Don Bosco (Ramsey)
DB Nyquee Hawkins (6-0, 175, Sr.), Orange <--Had UConn offer and committed to VaTech.
DB Donald Williams (6-1, 180, Sr.), Camden
DB Jordan Morant (6-1, 195, Jr.), Bergen Catholic (Oradell)
DB Connor Grieco (6-3, 200, Sr.), St. Joseph (Montvale)

Why has UCONN not offered Devaun Ford of Mashpee High School

I’m curious why no one besides St. Anselm has offered him. He seems to excel in multiple sports and attended a bunch of camps (including UConn’s) but no FBS/FCS offers to speak of. Figured Syracuse would offer @ some level (PWO?) since his Dad played there...

Know he’s been to campus/game a few times in the past in addition to camp. Wonder if he would benefit from a PG year somewhere?

Why has UCONN not offered Devaun Ford of Mashpee High School

We are too loaded at RB at this hour. I could see us adding someone this spring if we have any kids leave early and/ have more injuries.

Next year we have Mensah/new grad transfer Thompkins/Black/Scott/Gillespie/O’Reilly and two PWOs in Blanton and Moncion. O’Reilly and Gillespie are coming back from leg injuries. I hear Moncion was impressive in practice...Check out his HUDL tape - pretty good speed and cut ability.

I’ve been a fan of Juwon Jackson and Rashul Faison, but we seem to be all full at the moment.

Mensah was a late add when he came. I could see the same story playing out this spring for someone patient.

We didn't have significant cross-over. We offered Joshua Youngblood (Ath) out of Tampa while he held a Temple offer. He is "committed" but didn't sign an NLI during Early Signing Period.

Very few cross overs this year. Youngblood is about it and he seems very excited about his recent USF offer.

Did this Bob say where his kid got other offers??
He should be grateful his kid got an offer from a D1 school with a full scholarship...sounds like one of those parents who thinks his kid is going Pro and is ready for that right now..
Sure.. take another offer to a P5 and have your kid watch the game from his warm bench for 2-3 years with no playing time.. and look to transfer.. and still barely air his ass.. maybe UConn won’t be so lowly to him then..

TheHoosier.com - 2019 German DT Joseph Darkwa Talks Indiana Offer, Recruitment

>>Whether Indiana gets an official visit remains to be seen. Darkwa, who already used one of his five official visits on a trip to Rutgers in early December, said that he currently has all of his remaining four official visits set. According to Collier, that schedule includes UCLA on Jan. 11, Virginia on Jan. 18, and Texas on Feb. 2. If Darkwa were to visit Indiana, it would potentially be the weekend of Jan. 25. "If something changes I would definitely think about coming to Indiana," Darkwa said.<<

So, is this Orleans Darkwa's relative?
Someone should tell him coaches don't last at UCLA and Rutgers.

Randy is rolling....

He picks the weirdest fights. STFU.
Just be there to scoop them up when the rugs gets pulled away Randy.
He doesn’t seem to have a problem running off players he didn’t recruit who have eligibility left though.

... hmmm

In a zen like bizarro world, maybe that is his strategy Be the voice there to calm the teen when the rug gets pulled.

It will be interesting to see how the recruitment of Brendan Devera unfolds now that he has resolution on his criminal case. Devera looked like we was coming to UConn under Edsall's recruitment in 2017 before taking a late offer from Rutgers. He's had a good fall at ASA in Brooklyn resulting in #4 ranking for JUCO LBs by Gridiron. He is the only top 10 JUCO LB in their ranking w/o a home. His brother Tyler is a TE that went into his senior HS season this fall with big expectations for multiple p5 offers which have not materialized. Right now Tyler's best offer is UMass. I think the current leader in the clubhouse would be for both to end up at UMass.

Brendan could give us real beef and fire at the MLB position. However, I have no idea if his character has improved and if he would be a + in the locker room. From what I hear, the UConn football team is in need of some talented dudes with good character that are also coachable.

Rutgers football: 8 players charged in credit-card fraud scheme apply for PTI

After his dismissal from Rutgers, Devera attended ASA College in Brooklyn. The linebacker out of Wayne Hills High School has attracted interest from FBS-level programs after earning All-Northeast Football Conference second-team honors for the junior-college football team.

“He played at ASA College and he did quite well,’’ Ron Ricci, Devera’s attorney, said. “If everything works out with the PTI (acceptance) he hopes to enroll in the fall to play football. Where that is he doesn’t know yet. Schools are waiting to see this case resolved. But right now we’re satisfied with how the case is moving forward.’’
