2019 Recruiting Thread

We are not an alternative to Rutgers until we start winning. When the equation becomes go to UConn to win, go to Rutgers to lose, we will come out on top. And that day will come because Rutgers will never be winners

Gee.. thanks!

This is a developing phenomenon - and a HOPE for UConn rising over the next decade. We have solid athletic kids in the Northeast - Connecticut, Massachusetts, southern NH, upstate NY, Greater NYC, Long Island and even Canada - that notably were not getting developed at the HS level. Used to be a throwaway school Milford. Now the elite of the elite are in the Prep development business. WE (UConn) can direct kids to Prep like Hoop coaches have done for 20 years. And they are near.

Justin Moore is a 6-3 240lb DE from Texas Christian Academy in Addison Texas. He is currently committed to Rice University. Other offers from Air Force, ArkState, Columbia, Georgetown, Houston, LaTech, Louisiana-Monroe, Princeton, Texas Tech, Texas State and Tulane.

Ailym Ford is a 5-9 207lb RB from West Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. Other offers from Gardner-Webb, Tennessee Tech, USTA, St. Francis and West Virginia State

Just watched the highlight reel on Ford. I’m surprised he doesn’t have a ton of offers, the tape is mighty fine. Strong runner, good vision, acceleration and cut ability. He does not go down easy. Looks to have a maturity body for his age. He also has a few sacks playing the Trevardo Williams role on the defense.

He visited the gamecocks this past weekend.

Its interesting that Tyrik Henderson who hails from the Chicago area and opted to do a post grad year at St Thomas Moore rather than follow through on a commitment to Minnesota has picked up interest from Syracuse and Rutty while we seemingly aren't involved. Hmmmm.

Last year Henderson reportedly had offers from Colorado St, Cincy, Temple, Syracuse, BC and many others.

As for his PG campaign, not sure he has any offers just yet - only interest.

Rutgers, Syracuse tracking Connecticut cornerback

Harris , Crocker and Zyskowski have been following him for a while...

Yes, but we follow hundreds of dudes, way to many to mention in this thread as you know. Anyways, the staff and Henderson's teammates have been hinting that Henderson is hungry for an offer. Don't think he has received any since coming to STM this season. I dont know if he is worthy of an offer, but I find it interesting that if this kid sits around a bit this fall and lets say he ends up at Syracuse it could be an example of a missed opportunity.

There’s always the chance there is another Matakevich lurking in our backyard.

My point was there is some evidence that we are aware of him and there may be mutual interest at some level. STM seems to be a regular stop by staff and the staff has a decent relationship w/ Moore. No clue why he seems to have cooled off in programs mind's after high school.

I'm also of the belief to some respect that there are convo's/interest being back-channeled in hopes of keeping poachers away (e.g.: those cases where we no sooner offer someone and hours later they suddenly get a local area P5/G5 offer). It's much harder to do that now-a-days w/ social media and the consistent peer pressure on who has the most offers pending (as well as prep/h.s. coaches/trainers pumping up their programs).

Crazy work hours has me all out of sorts this week... missed this one yesterday.

How many DB's has UConn put in the NFL? How well did UConn develop Byron Jones and Obi Melifonwu?
How many Michigan DB's in the NFL the last few years?
With a QB from Everett on the current UConn roster, should UConn not have had a great shot at Sainristil?

Please explain to me why you think a 17-year-old kid (not a middle-aged UConn fan) would ever choose UConn over Michigan...my god.

No. It’s Michigan Football. (Quote from huskymedic)

Actually, I'm an old UConn fan and delusionally optimistic. Maybe even on a Nostical scale.
Secondly, you may recall a couple kids at STM recently saying they wanted to go there to resurrect their program in their home state and yet decided to go to Syracuse and some other school for football. I asked on this site why they couldn't have the same thought process about their home U.
That's the reason I referenced UConn's NFL cornerbacks (Jones, etc) and asked why it's not possible to retain more of the instate or regional kids, especially those who play that position.
It still sticks in my mind that Hathaway hired Pasqualoni so he could use his relationships with CT high school coaches to keep more of the best kids home. Edsall seemed to have done a good job of building interest in high school football because of UConn's success in his first stint so is it not possible to keep more of the regional kids if you have the right people doing the recruiting?
Hurley assembled a terrific staff and just may have a great recruiting class this year (doomed). So, if he could do it coming off the recent down years, is it not possible to do better in football as well?

It's always possible and UConn should never stop chasing these in-state kids (and the out-of--state kids @ the prep schools) with fervor, but the expectation that these high end kids are going to pass up a marquee program for UConn (absent a connection other then state of residence) is not realistic @ this point in UConn conference situation and past 8 year on field performance (IMO).

Why is no one talking about the absolute silence on the recruiting front? I could care a less about recruiting kids from a certain state. But for a program who is brutally honest about its own feelings about the items left in the cupboard, I am shocked to see/hear so little activity. It can't be that they are too busy game planning.

My take... they've offered 4 kids in the past week and have been out and about from some social media activity. Early signing day is a month out and P5 rosters are filling and offers are disappearing for those on the P5/G5 fence, which will cause trickle down.

If there is still silence/significant gap after the early signing period... yikes.

Faison racking up the stats.

And btw, Bagnah visited Boise State this past weekend.

Interesting > PA WR/DB decommits from Syracuse. He had 20+ offers.

>>Burnett's decommitment comes as a bit of a surprise, as he seemed to be a solid commit. However, it is possible he sees the young talent at receiver for the Orange and is concerned about early playing time. Burnett cited rushing his decision the first time around, meaning other visits are likely on the horizon. There is no word on another school getting involved, new offers or new interest. <<

Thought this is worth posting because Crocker, A. Smith and John Siebel (GA) follow Drew Gunther, a 6'3'' QB from Malvern Prep (south of Philly). He's been to Syracuse twice and received a PWO offer from Tenn. He has full offers from VMI, Fordham, Georgetown (they have football?), Brown and Albany.

Nice Q&A here on 247 with Jimmy Fritzsche, the 6'7'' OT/TE from Greenville SC. Really good upside in this one, might be one of the better OTs Edsall 2.0 has pursued.

He also said his "top schools for me right now are Nebraska, UConn, Villanova, and Syracuse in that order."
And regarding UConn: "UConn’s offer also excited me and I’ve been very fond of the coaches I’ve talked to. "

Jimmy says he has three visits lined up in January, but didn't specify the who and whens and also said its subject to change. His preference is to commit in late Jan, but would commit in December if he had too.

Q&A With 2019, TE/OL, Jimmy Fritzsche
