Within the last 8 months, high school QBs from CT have signed/verballed to Penn State, Clemson & Notre Dame.

We have to be able to sell something better to not just those 3, but to all theses kids that are going big. How do we keep them at home?

Outside of waking up w/ a P5 designation... win football games, lotsa of them - consistently.

Promises of competiting for immediate playing time does nothing. Everyone promises that.

It’s tough. We play in the AAC. We don’t play “brand” teams. You have to sell that a kid can be a program changer. Kentucky was able to keep Tim Couch home. But you would really need to find a kid who loves his home state and wants to bring UCONN to prominence.

Right now UCONN needs to claw back to being respectable. Start winning and we might get a 4 Star in state kid to commit.

This was tough when we were BCS. With the G5 designation it's going to be very, very rare. It's really gonna hurt when these kids consistently go to Rutgers and Syracuse. Schools we consistently beat when on equal footing.

I dont know what Crocker and Allen have on schedule this week for visits. Two guys that are probably top 15 instate players that we should give attention to this week could be:

Jaquan Allen - WR/CB 6'2'' 180lbs (East Hartford). Athletic. Fast. Catches the ball away from his body. Good balance. Looks like a fluid WR to me.


Mitchell Jackson - WR/SS 6'2'' 210lbs (Ridgefield). I like him both as a possession receiver and husky LB/SS. He has an athletic build - it will be interesting to see how that build further develops this year.

Let me make a wild-ass guessy statement:

There are far more Connecticut involved in Football at higher levels and earlier than 10-15 years ago ... because of the University of Connecticut Program. The opportunity set opened up.

We may see these elites go. But pure demographics say that WE will get more here (and then, we also open up Massachusetts and NYC boroughs and LI more ... maybe upstate NY). This is all good. Then, the kids see that they won't get there with there HS program; that is regardless of the tradition of that CT town. They go to Prep.

I'm looking at the schools we have lost guys to and I see it as good and bad. Good: we are going after high-powered players. Bad: We are losing these guys from schools in our backyard.

Wisconsin, VATech, Miami, Alabama, Clemson, and Notre Dame are all schools we will have a hard time recruiting against. Congrats to all these guys.

Which does not shock me. We aren't a P5 school. I mean beating out the likes of Rutgers, Indiana, and Wake Forest should happen every now and then but we aren't going to compete with Notre Dame, Michigan, Miami, FSU...

Don't repeatedly earn the designation of being one of the worse, if not the worse, FBS team in the country.
