Wait....the guy is a head coach and he is shopping himself to be a DC at Syracuse? What is the back story here?
70 years old, makes a little less than $900k which is surprising. Maybe he is looking to downshift for a similar salary.

He’s done it before... when he doesn’t feel like there is adequate support/nothing more he could accomplish he moves on.

So why would they keep him employed? It just seems odd that they would tolerate him doing this.

He's a pretty good coach. I bet New Mexico wishes they never got rid of him.

The Long discussion of being a DC has everything to do with the Separation of tiers in FBS. Consider a Coordinator role ... and it pays more with great staffing support + benefits. Babers is on the clock too. A solid season & he moves up. He can’t, however, backslide.

Folks, it’s called negotiating. Few coaches take a step back - they simply need leverage and maybe some free publicity.

In recent years we saw Dan Enos leave i believe Central Michigan to be a coordinator for i believe Brett Beliema at Arkansas.

Gotta wonder if he’s headed to the U to be w/ Lashlee soon...
If you read between the lines, he probably jumped before he was pushed. Auburn's OL regressed in the running game the year and struggled against good defenses, although they did well pass blocking. Losing 4 starters and 2 key backups, so total rebuild. Add in a new offensive coordinator.

... true but scuttlebutt in Miami is Barry’s OL job is on the clock w/ Enos gone and Lashlee in. Could be a complete coincidence but it’s sure easier to jump when there is a soft landing.

He’s staying at SDSU, per SDSU.

The San Diego State drama with Rocky Long stems in part from the administration wanting him to look at some staff changes and him not wanting them to tell him what to do with his program, per sources. He definitely has been calling around to some Power 5 programs about DC jobs.

Ah ok...the rest of the story. I knew the Syracuse DC rumor don't don't make sense.
