2018 wins needed for NCAA bid

Need 2 wins this weekend at minimum vs a good St. John's team. Our RPI is pretty high at 32. Winning away games vs St. Johns would be huge. Plus it is going to be real important for us to take care of our New England games. It really hurts us losing games we should win. Hoping bats can be more consistent, starting this weekend.

Much needed win today over a good St. Johns team. If we can get a win tomorrow, we would be 9 -7 in our " Other Games" category. Since we had a game postponed we would not reach our goal of 10 - 7. But if we win I am going to mark us a goal reached. Not going to penalize us for a game that was postponed.

Great and very important series win vs a good St. Johns team on the road. Our bats are still lagging behind, put impressive pitching ( especially bullpen) led us to the last 2 wins. We are 8 - 3 in games Cate has Not started. I think all of us would have taken that at beginning of year. I am going with the glass half full, and looking at this as a positive. I am confident Cate will turn his season around soon and be a major contributor to teams success.

Of our next 10 games, 7 are vs New England teams and 3 vs USF. My goal ( at minimum) is to go 7 -3. This gets our record to 16 - 10 with a .615 winning %. Our winning % goal for year ( below) is .617. We really need to win our New England games. Last few years these games have come back to hurt us at end of year.

I'll take UConn's record, especially considering the #28 RPI that comes with it. The goal now is to try to win every weekend series, going 2-1 each time. The weekday games more or less count as their own weekend series, so I would to see UConn win 2 out of 3 of those games, or perhaps slightly better. While there are enough New England teams with poor RPI's where a loss could hurt, not all of them are dreadful. Teams like Boston College, Bryant, and Rhode Island are usually pretty good year in and year out. And this year Northeastern is still clocking in at #2 in the RPI.

Nice come from behind win yesterday. Not so much that it was a big win, but a loss is very disappointing and hurts us down the road. Again pitching was very good, still waiting for bats to come alive.

Always hoping to win our AAC weekend series. Winning 2 of 3 on road vs USF would be a good way to start off our conference schedule.

Going to state the obvious, but a great way to start our AAC season. We beat arguably the best pitcher in the country. Even though do not want to be greedy, it would have been nice to add on some insurance runs after the 2nd inning.

There is a lot of "Green" categories below, but that can change quickly. Would like to get at least 1 of these next 2, to add to our nation leading road wins. I believe we are tied for the lead with 11. These road wins will continue to help our RPI and be a very positive factor for the NCAA selection committee.

Very disappointing weekend ( especially today) after winning Friday evening. As someone else posted, it seems like we play better if we lose our Friday night game. Really thought we were going to salvage weekend , when we were up 2 in the 8th.

Much of the "Green" has switched to "Red" below. Need to do some damage in upcoming New England games. Even though our RPI is still very good, we need to get some wins

It was a disappointing weekend indeed, however, it doesn't seem to have hurt UConn's RPI. At last check of the Warren Nolan website, UConn is now at 21. Makes you wonder how high UConn might have bounced if the Huskies had picked up another win at South Florida. The AAC is shaping up to be another one of its typically tough slogs, with 5 AAC teams currently in the top 60 RPI, and with a couple of other teams (Houston and Tulane) that I wouldn't be surprised if they soon break in to the RPI 100 and continue rising. It's a tough conference where you just can't take any win for granted.

American Athletic Conference Standings 2018 College Baseball - WarrenNolan.com

Given the strength of the AAC, it would seem UConn really needs to take care of business in the New England games. However, the Boston College game on Tuesday promises to be a tough one. UConn could really use that win.

Always nice to beat BC in anything. Great pitching performance by Kersten, vs a solid BC team. Not going to put the next 5 games in the must win category, but I would be very disappointed if we don't get a minimum of 4 wins. These games have really hurt us in the past.

Our RPI is currently at 18. With our AAC schedule our RPI will take care of itself. I realize I am beating a dead horse, but we NEED to win these New England games to add to our win total. It is not so much how much a win helps, but how much each of these losses hurts us.

Prior to this last 10 game stretch, I was hoping we went ( at minimum) 7 - 3. We are currently 3 - 2, going 4 - 1 gets us to 7 - 3 and to a 16 - 10 overall record. Would be happy with that, but really hope we get these next 5.

Did our job yesterday. The game was much more nerve racking then final score, but the late big inning put game away for us. Need another one today to keep momentum going.

Again, we did what we needed to do today. Great pitching by Feole and glad to see Woodworth get 3 hits. With his glove , it would be a big contribution if he can hit a bit. Lets get another win tomorrow.

Even though it wasn't easy, another needed win. Our pitching has been outstanding, only giving up 2 runs in 3 games. But our hitting needs to improve. Besides a few innings this weekend, we did not hit well.

We have won 4 in a row and 8 of last 10. Hopefully take care of business vs Fairfield and Quinipiac this week. Then head to a tough stretch with UCF, Bryant and Wichita State.

To reiterate how “must win” the New England games are, UConn went 4-0 against BC, Hartford and CCSU this week and fell 2 spots in the RPI
Totally agree, that it really does not help our RPI to win these games. But losing them kills our RPI. Don't want to Jinx it, but so far we are taken care of business in these games.

Happy Easter to all and Go Huskies

Happy Easter BYers.

Two big series (UCF and Wichita St) sandwiched in between a few quality northeast opponents coming up. The next two+ weeks will tell us a lot about this team and their NCAA tournament hopes.

Am I imagining it, or does this team seem to be in roughly this position every year? Bubble team, that either just gets in or just misses the cut. I was encouraged that they haven't blown any of the should win New England games yet. But we need some solid conference wins.

I believe that college baseball is designed to handicap northern teams.

Right now, UConn projector to be in “Next Four Out”.

Really, it all depends on how UConn does in the AAC. I'm thinking this projection is mainly off of losing their first AAC series of the season against USF. If the Huskies finish in the top 4 of the conference and maintain an RPI of under 35 or so, they are probably in pretty good shape to make the NCAA tourney. If they start dropping several of these weekend matchups, then all bets are off the table.

Hello everyone, just want to update you a few things below.

(1) With cancelled games , I am revising goals below slightly. Does not seem like these games will be made up

(2) I will not be able to update chart till April 16th. My wife and I are finally going to Italy after 32 years of me promising. I thought about having others update chart while I am away, but did not want to mess with the mojo. I am Italian, so I believe in jinx's.

(3) During this tough next 7 game stretch, I am hoping we go ( at minimum) 4 -3. This gets our record to 19 - 12 ( .593), which is very close to our overall winning % goal

(4) I am hoping to be able to follow team thru boneyard and Twitter. So any updates by you guys will be greatly appreciated

I enjoy these updates. Thanks for doing them.

Where are you going in Italy?

How does a tie impact RPI?

RPI moves day to day based on other teams’ outcomes but as of this morning...

UConn went from 20 to 21
Bryant went from 85 to 79
