I would think Jayden McDonald is also a priority and Randy is in his neighborhood today hopefully getting a chance to make another pitch...
I’m not swift enough to do this from my phone to post the twitter link, but last night we offered Pierce Devaughn, a 6’4’’ 235lb DE out of Plano Tx. He has offers from Army, Central Arkansas, Northern Colorado and Montana State.
Looks like we have our replacement for Woodson.
The highlight video shows someone with decent pass rush ability, particularly the first three - four steps when rushing straight ahead. If he has the discipline for the gym he might be able to get more explosive. Good DE frame overall.
Hopefully the kid visits this weekend.
What makes you think Rayam is looking good?I saw this kid was on our radar after he verballed to Montana State.. Looks like we are looking for another body for our front 7... I like his highlights.. another bigger body that can hold up at the LOS for us on D... Kinda built like Surgers too... Nice size and a true DL, not a converted kid like another previous coaching regime liked to bring in... Would be nice to get him, along with Rayam (still want him for our LB corp, which, IMO, is looking pretty good right now)
Not a real surprise all said and done:
I never said Rayam's looking good... I just want us to bring him into the fold... bring/keep that LB corp as our strongest asset on D, but stronger than it's been the past 5 years.. His production in HS makes him a priority for us... No disrespect to any of the other LBs we already have in the fold, this kid's #s reminds me of those under the radar kids we brought in 10 years ago or so ( Scott Lutrus, Lawrence Williams, remember those guys??? ) . Only difference with him is he's not undersizedWhat makes you think Rayam is looking good?
You have sources?
Looks like Crocker is desperately seeking a Tanoh Kpassagnon type that can get pressure on his own and dramatically change the overall effectiveness of his 3 3 5 defense. I like that they are actually working toward a plan.I saw this kid was on our radar after he verballed to Montana State.. Looks like we are looking for another body for our front 7... Lol. You misread my question. I was hoping you had some insight.
Yes. If you can get edge pressure in this defense coupled with the unpredictability of where the blitz is coming from by the backers you’ll have a lot of errant throws which plays into the hands of our improved secondary. You can also incopoerate some corner blitzes to confuse and aid in the zone read runs.Looks like Crocker is desperately seeking a Tanoh Kpassagnon type that can get pressure on his own and dramatically change the overall effectiveness of his 3 3 5 defense. The trick for us has always been to find a Kpassagnon type. Or Lindsey Whitten. Or Teddy Jennings. Or Shawn Mayne. Or Jesse Joseph. I don't include Cody Brown cause he had a lot of offers.I like the plan, but none of the DEs we've landed seem to have the necessary speed off thr edge. Hope I'm wrong
After last year, when we couldn't even keep teams at bay at 3rd and 20+, sky's gotta be the limit going forward... Can't get any worse than last season on D for us....Can it?Yes. Gotta keep teams away from 2nd and 3rd and short.
Since we were last in college football in passing defensive, no, we can't get worse -ranking wise. After last year, when we couldn't even keep teams at bay at 3rd and 20+, sky's gotta be the limit going forward... Can't get any worse than last season on D for us....Can it?
Remember, Better LB’s and corners can help with the pressures. After last year, when we couldn't even keep teams at bay at 3rd and 20+, sky's gotta be the limit going forward... Can't get any worse than last season on D for us....Can it?
I'm under the impression that a number of defensive players did not totally buy into the scheme. After last year, when we couldn't even keep teams at bay at 3rd and 20+, sky's gotta be the limit going forward... Can't get any worse than last season on D for us....Can it?
I was at the USF game near the 30 yd line on USF's side of the field... when we had them 3rd and forever and their QB thru nearly a 20 yard screen pass to the long side of the field where we sat, and both our tacklers completely whiffed, letting the WR take it to the house, you gotta believe from that alone it can't get any worse...Remember, Better LB’s and corners can help with the pressures.
I think we will improve.
Also, let’s hope the guys from last year have been pushing themselves to get better. Honestly I would after seeing the way they’ve been recruiting.
